Will New Rochelle Staff Rescue 4 24/7 One Day?

5 posts in this topic

Since the Trump Plaza is going up in New Rochelle, towards Station 1's part of the city as some of you know, I heard that New Rochelle is trying to fully staff Rescue Company 4 24/7 instead of being manned by the Ladder Company 11 crew. Is this true?. If so I think thats a smart move.

Thats Rescue 4 below if anyone in curious. wink.gif

I guess that would make things a little easier on the TL-11 guys, because if im not mistaking, R-4 is manned by the same personel.

We even have our own staffed rescue in Mount Vernon, lol!

This would be a smart move by New Rochelle, if they can afford it? I know there's a ton of development, but with tax breaks and all, is there enough money coming in (for staffing at least)? They would have to hire several new firefighters, and a few years ago, weren't they talking about closing Engine 24 and laying off most of the guys in that company?

New Rochelles a smart and progressive fire department, it would be nice to see the rescue fully manned and TL-11 at the same time.

As a taxpayer of New Rochelle, I would love to see more staffing. There are several new hi-rise buildings

Working in a hi-rise area and responding to hi-rise fires, it takes a lot out of the guys and requires a lot of resources to handle. Any increase in staffing I am sure would be very helpful to the members of the Department

From what I've heard, FDNR is working very diligently to try and increase their manning, by meeting with City Politicians and also by applying for the grants that are available since 9-11 for the sole purpose of increasing manning. I don't why more Depts. that are undermanned like mine don't follow suit and do the same. All I've been hearing for the last couple of yrs. is how much Federal and State monies are available for staffing and equipment thru grants, but nobody seems to be taking the time to apply for them or at least in my Dept. This sounds like a great job for those that are assigned to Staff positions within a Dept., that don't do much, such as a Chief, Commissioner, Deputy Comm., Staff Deputy Chief and a Staff Capt. I wish my Dept., which seems to have more personnel in Staff than you can shake a stick at, would make this their no.1 priority and make a concerted effort to try and increase our manning, by filing for such grants if they're still available. This would justify these Staff positions by giving these members such an important task for an urgently and well needed cause. Maybe this is the only recourse and the answer to everyone's question on how to end the M/A abuse by Career Depts. dry.gif
