Which one would you get and why? My needs are simple yet I would like to hear many different communications (FDNY, NYPD, Westchester Police, Fire, EMS, CT,) and not have to replace the scanner in the near future. Alos what I am looking for is the communications between radios as opposed to just comunications from and to dispatch. My brother has the BC350C and we want to upgrade to a better system. Please point me in the right direction.

Thanks guyemthup.gif

I say go with the BCT15 or if you need APCO25 digital cappabilities, go with the 996. I say this because with the new 800 MHz framing, you'll be able to flash this one first when the softeware comes out when everyone moves. The second choice would be the BCT8.

The 898 is tool bulky but not a bad home scanner but it will not be able to be flashed for the new framing of 800 mhz.

Jst my opinion

Thanks, this is the type of info I am looking for. I am not up to date with all the new software and moving of communications to different systems. I appreciate the help.

APCO25 is the digital transmission standard for certan systems. Say you lived in CT and wanted to listen to the CSP, you would need a digial receiveing scanner to listen to this type of system.

Check out radioreference.com and strongsignals.net for more info.

Can any of you guys recommend a decent portable?? The reason I ask is because I was up in Putnam today and when P-911 did the Sunday Morning tone test, I heard very little of it, and I was less than 5 miles from P-911, parked in front of the Brewster Firehouse.

Fire Tone Out is a feature that will mimic your pager in activating the scanner just like a pager. The draw back from what I read is that you can not scan while in Tone Out mode. Basically you are making your scanner another pager. You cna either scan or set it in Tone Out mode.
