Location: Montrose VA campus Building #1

Units Operating: E225, MA 28

Description Of Incident: Fire in Transformer room

Writer:

2027hrs- Montrose VAFD received AFA for Building #1 on the Montrose VA campus, multiple activations. E225, MA 28 responding on dispatch.

2029hrs- MA28 on scene reporting odor of smoke from exterior of building in the rear of the structure, advises E225 to spot a hydrant and send manpower to MA28 location for investigation.

2031hrs- crew entered ground floor with heavy odor of smoke, stretching a line as a precaution.

2035hrs- crew locates origin of smoke coming from Room #16(transformer room). orange glow emerging from bottom of doorway, and heavy smoke coming from room. Crews entered room and encountered heavy smoke/working fire contained to the transformer room. Utilized approx. 30 lbs. of Dry Chemical to knock down bulk of fire, notified Electricians to shut power, and crews in process of ventilating. Situation under control, fire was contained to transformer no extension.

2045hrs-fire knocked down, waiting for power to be shut, all units holding. crew in process of overhauling and picking up.

2050hrs- MA28 back in service standing by at Station, E225 on scene

2100hrs- E225 back in service, power shut. Situation mitigated..
