Incident Command System National Training Curriculum ICS Intermediate (I –300) Course

Wednesday, August 23, 2006 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Thursday, August 24, 2006 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

The New York State Emergency Management Office is sponsoring an Incident Command System - Intermediate (I-300) course to be held at the United States Military Academy at West Point in West Point, New York on August 22nd, August 23rd and August 24th 2006. This course was jointly designed under the leadership of the NWCG and included DHS/FEMA, NFA, and USDA and complies with the NIMS/HSPD-5 requirements for Incident Command System training.

The complexity of incident management, coupled with the growing need for multi-agency and multi-functional involvement on incidents, has increased the need for a single standard incident management system that can be used by all emergency response disciplines and is required by Homeland Security Presidential Directive #5.

Use of the Incident Command System by public safety and private sector organizations across the country is increasing. ICS is being used for a variety of applications including:

· Fires (structural and wildland) Hazardous Materials Incidents

· Law Enforcement Operations Search and Rescue

· Air, ground and water accidents Multi-Casualty Incidents

· Natural Disasters e.g., tornadoes Planned Events e.g., parades, concerts, etc.

TOPICS TO BE COVERED IN ICS INTERMEDIATE (Modules 7 – 11 & 13)

· Module 7 - “Organization and Staffing”

· Module 8 - “Organizing for Incidents or Events”

· Module 9 - “Incident Resource Management”

· Module 10 - “Air Operations”

· Module 11 - “Incident and Event Planning”

· Module 13 - “Unified Command”

PREREQUISITES

The prerequisite to enroll in this course is completion of the Incident Command System National Training Curriculum ICS Basic (I-200) Course. Other ICS training may be acceptable; however, prior approval is needed by the Course Manager.

**To promote understanding of HSPD-5/NIMS requirements, we strongly encourage participants to complete the IS-700, an Introduction to the National Incident Management System, available from FEMA’s Independent Study Program at http://www.training.fema.gov/emiweb/IS/is700.asp prior to attending this program.

COURSE COMPLETION

An open book exam will be given at the end of the course. Participants who achieve a passing score on the exam will receive a Certificate of Completion for the course.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

The target audience for this course is individuals who may assume a supervisory/management role in expanding (Type 3) incidents including Command and General Staff positions, Branch Director, Division/Group Supervisor, and/or Strike Team, Task Force, or Unit Leader positions. Persons who may assume these ICS supervisory positions would include senior personnel from Emergency Management, Fire Service, Law Enforcement, EMS, Healthcare, Education, Military, and Volunteer organizations active in disaster.

COST

There is no fee for the course. Food, Lodging and Transportation costs are the responsibility of the participant.

There are also two ICS Intermediate Courses (I-300) in September in Westchester County...

One in New Rochelle (9/11-9/13) and one in Valhalla (9/20-9/22).
