Improper way to fight a fire(video)

While surfing through "youtube" I came across this video of a response to a brush fire, and while it does take some time to load, right around the seven mintue mark you'll start to notice things go wrong...an engine responding with only a driver, and other firefighters at the scene putting out the fire without PPE, and you'll even see a woman try and put it out with her feet...Just thought I'd share this with everyone

Whats th eissue here? Other than the idiot trying to stamp out the grass fire, I don't see what you're talking about. There are several depts in Westchester, and many more through out the country that have drivers respond on the apparatus and members respond to the scene. As for not using PPE, go out west or to florida and see how they operate. You don't need bunker gear for this type of fire. Forest rangers on a regular basis deal with the intial attack on forrest fires wearing nothing more than cotton work pants, and a cotton long sleve shirt.

Well if you look at the truck it is a conventional 2 person cab, so where does the crew go, want them ride the back??? Maybe this truck was the department's nuisance rig. As for turnout gear, I'm against wearing full structure gear for brush fires. Wearing pants no problem but if you look at all the styles of brush gear out there, it like wearing jeans. Nothing is worse than wearing bunker or 3/4 boots and trucking in a mile to get to a brush fire. When we used to have serious brush fires, we were allowed a choice of brush gear, turnout pants, 3/4 boots or workboots and jeans. No jacket, but had to have our helmet with us, and most of us carried hard hats.

Yes stomping out the fire with your boots is wrong I give you that but you don;t need full structure PPE and an airpack to fight a brush fire, you'll go down faster than you would at a structure fire.

My bad when I said PPE I meant brush fire gear. By definition it can be any type of personal protective equipment including brush fire gear (which is why I didnt say bunker gear). I also didnt say full structural turn out and an air pack was needed. My initial reaction of the video (it wasnt supposed to be a big deal) was that the department in charge was not very professional, but hey, I could be wrong. I just put the video up to see what people thought about it, and if you do or do not have a problem with it, then so be it.

Wow! Thats about 5 guys that would have had days off without pay out here, but then again, the "brush fire" was all of about 20 square feet. Here are a few examples of what is used out here on ALL brush / grass fires. On top of that, if you're caught not wearing a long sleeved T-shirt, you'll be pulled from the fire line.
