Mack Truck / FDNY Rumors

3 posts in this topic

OK, for the past few months now, I have been hearing the rumor that Mack Truck may start building fire truck chassis (not the MR / MC Series) again. One of the rumors was also I heard was that some apparatus committee people in FDNY were pushing for this as well.

Is there any truth or is this just one of those new rumors that usually involves FDNY because of certain fustrations or myths.

Anybody heard any truth to this?

As always, I'll beleive it when I see it.

I haven't heard that myself. If that were true, that would be awesome! Macks, even though discontinued, are still wildly popular and have a great reputation. Even though I know their reasoning behind getting out of the fire truck market, I never really understood it.

Mack Trucks is owned now by Volvo North America. I don't know if their corporate parent would want to get back into the market. And from what I hear, because of their new parent they're not the same company they used to be, although they build some visually stunning chasis with great powertrains and have quite a great heritage.

I'll also take the philosphy of I'll believe it when I see it. However if they come up with a chassis like a modernized CF and then put it through the paces in NYC, I think it would be awesome.
