Cops: Driver did 135 mph on Sprain Parkway

GREENBURGH — New York State troopers see speeders all the time, but even they were in awe this morning when a Yonkers man was clocked driving at 135 miles per hour on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Greenburgh.

"It's probably the fastest I've ever seen," said Sgt. James Kranik of the Hawthorne barracks.

The 20-year-old who was driving a black Honda Accord was stopped by Troopers Sean Morgan and Roberto Cepeda and issued a speeding ticket at 2:01 a.m.

Sgt. Kranik said the two troopers were set up with radar in the southbound lane of the highway in Greenburgh. The speed limit is 55 miles per hour. The Yonkers resident whizzed by them at 100 miles per hour.

The troopers headed after him in their cruiser.

"He had no idea they were behind him," Kranik said.

Near Jackson Avenue, the young driver topped out at 135 miles per hour. The troopers were about 100 yards behind him. They activated their lights and he stopped.

The driver will have to answer the speeding charge in Greenburgh Town Court Aug. 4.

That Sprain is like the Indy 500 anytime of the day or night. Its amazing that they don't catch more of those nuts who confuse their shoe size with their IQ.
