Fourth of July

On this day (July 4) in 1776, the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental Congress, starting the 13 colonies on the road to freedom as a sovereign nation. As always, this most American of holidays will be marked by parades, fireworks and backyard barbecues across the country.

A little fact:

2.5 Million: The number of people living in the 13 original colonies in 1776.

300 Million: Close to the number of people who will be living in the United States on 4 July 2006.
