Beekman road named after late volunteer firefighter

June 27, 2006

Poghkeepsie Journal

POUGHQUAG — One of the roads in the new Springs at Beekman subdivision has been named for Al Wohrman, a longtime volunteer firefighter who died last year in the line of duty.

The Beekman town board recently named Wohrman Way after the Beekman fire commissioner and member of the rescue squad.

Wohrman died in a car crash the morning of April 17, 2005, while returning from an accident scene.

Construction is under way on the recently approved Springs subdivision of 199 single-family homes on land off Beekman and Greenhaven roads.

For the purposes of identification by the Dutchess Enhanced 911 Emergency Response Department, the subdivision roads must be properly named.

After review by the Beekman Fire Department, the town board approved the 10 proposed road names. They include Wohrman Way and others such as Lake Shore Boulevard, Mulberry Street, Brandywine Court, Winterberry Circle and Cypress Lane.

Beekman Supervisor John Adams thanked Councilman Werner Stiegler for working with the Wohrman family in naming the road after the firefighter.
