Code 3 June Release: FDNY Mack Rescue 2

19 posts in this topic

Just a heads up to those who collect. Code 3's June release, exclusive to club members, is an FDNY Mack MC Rescue 2.

It's already 50% sold out through Code 3. Westchester Collectibles may also have availability, I believe.

Check out this link: http://fdnytrucks.com/files/html/brooklyn/r2.htm There is a photo of the rig at the bottom of the page. Another shot of it can be seen on the bottom of this page from when it ran as Collapse Unit 2: http://fdnytrucks.com/files/html/brooklyn/e280.htm

An example of how the rig looked when it ran as Rescue 2 when first delivered can be seen here: http://fdnytrucks.com/files/html/specialunits/rac.htm Look at the last image on the page showing "Re-hab Unit #1".

After Rescue 2's mid-80's Mack MC/Saulsbury was heavily damaged by a collision with a tower ladder (and then removed from service), this rig made a return to Rescue 2 to serve again-I believe until the HME/Saulsbury took it's place-with the rig going to Haz-Mat Ops afterwards (see pic @ http://fdnytrucks.com/files/html/specialunits/hmops.htm )

Hope this helps!

Arlington is still running (if it is still mechanicall in service, if not it is occupying space behind The Mill) their "Old Rescue 2" Mack Rescue.

In service @ HQ... running slow as ever... just had the dedication last week and have a nice mural on the side now as a tribute to R-2.

We did think she was a permanent fixture down at the Mill for a while though...

You can see a couple of photos of Arlington Rescue 2, as well as some other Arlington apparatus by Turborich, on this recent EMTBravo.com feature:

http://www.emtbravo.lunarpages.com/SpecFea...mArlington.html

Due to the single axle, I don't believe it's the same one that's getting released by Code 3.

Here's a pic of Arlington's rescue from Mike Martinelli's web site:

Wow, they did a good job on the re-build! I have a shot of this rig somewhere after the collision with the tower ladder (both were responding to a call) and the rig is pretty trashed.

Here is a link I found when doing a search for info on the 1990 Mack MR rig (the one with the dual rear axles):

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/FDNYING/message/2512

This info is in response to someone asking how long the single rear axle Mack MR was in service (the one Code 3 is coming out with):

"It was actually a little later that they ran this rig. It was a 1991

rebuild of Rescue 2's 1982 ALF Saulsbury. It was rebuilt to be a

spare rescue, but was assigned to R2 in February, 1995 when their 1990

Mack/Saulsbury was wrecked in an accident. They used it from

February, 1995 until April, 1997, when they were assigned their 1996

HME."

I was told a while back that this was "supposed" to be the dealer exclusive for Westchester this year. Guess that got changed.

Oh well. At least I finally get a break. First month this year that hasn't produced something I want.

Just to throw it in, Stiloski's Towing in Tarrytown has an ex FDNY Rescue as his heavy recovery truck. Has Jaws of Life on board. I know that there are pics of it somewhere here on EMTBravo.

Not sure which Rescue it used to be though.

CODE 3 "RESCUE 2" LOOKS NICE!!!!

But...from what I can remember of the many nights I rode that rig with my good friend LT Pete Lund the two front lightbars were clear domes with red/clear filters NOT red as in the pic of the Code 3 model.

Sorry, just a BUFF when it comes to FDNY Rescue 2. :D

RIP LT. PETE LUND

That is by no means the first "inaccurate" piece Code 3 has put out, and it likely won't be the last.

I'm still waiting to find out whether the missing lettering will be added to TL-78 before it's released. Hopefully it will be, but who knows?
