Description Of Incident:Campbell Hall – State police this afternoon located the wreckage of a single-engine plane that went missing shortly before it was due to arrive at Orange County Airport.

Fritz Kass, aviation director at the airport, said there did not appear to be any survivors.

It was unclear whether there was a second person aboard besides the pilot. Officials could not immediately confirm that the plane’s registered owner, Thomas Dayon of West Milford, N.J., was piloting the plane.

Stated police said the plane was found deep in the woods off Route 416, just north of Camplell Hall.

“It was very difficult to locate from the air,†said state police Capt. Wayne Olson.

Kass said the plane, was enroute to the airport for maintenance from Greenwood Lake.

The pilot notified an air traffic controller that he was in view of the airport and was switching from instruments to visual flight rules. That was the last anyone heard from the pilot.
