Firefighters discover "booby trapped" house

May 23, 2006 - Fire crews were ordered out of a vacant house while battling a fire, after what they discovered inside.

Fire officials say a fire early Tuesday morning at North Erie and Galena was intentionally set. Crews were called to the scene around 1:00 a.m., and initially started putting out flames in the back of the home.

Firefighters then went in the front, and made a dangerous discovery. The battalion chief says holes were cut in the floor, and cans of fuel had been set out. He says the intention was for the cans to explode, and injure firefighters.

Fire officials had firefighters leave the house. It was vacant, and they said they didn't want to risk any lives fighting a fire in that type of structure. Because of the damage, the house torn down, leaving a pile of rubble for the city to take care of.

It's scumbags like this that make me lean towards thinking capital punishment is a good idea, and to quickly forget any objections or reservations I may have about it.

Whoever did this should burn to death seems a little harsh well thats what those fireman could have gone threw, ive always felt the way u kill is the way u should die. Whoever was the brainswelling moron behind this is no better then the terroist!!!!!

A updated article on firehouse.com had the FD involved downplay this story. They said the location of the holes were not consistant with boob-traps and there was also another fire there at some time prior and the holes could have been made for that. Don't forget $hit happens, we need to protect ourselves at all times.

Secondly,

Capital punishment is always worth it. They just need to find a more efficient and cheaper way to get it done. Corporal punishment no way, and the key word was those firefighters could have burned to death but they didn't. If it was booby traps they should be punished according to the appropriate law and dealt with accordingly.
