The Baltimore City Police Department is mourning the loss of an 11-year veteran who was killed early Friday in a head-on collision that involved two police cruisers.

Officer Anthony Byrd, 31, was killed early Friday, and another officer was seriously injured, when their patrol cars collided about a block from the Southwestern District police station. The second unit was responding to back up officers on a domestic assualt call.
