Backyard Firepits- Are They Legal?

5 posts in this topic

Are those backyard firepits that look like a table you see everywhere nowadays at Costco, Home Depot, etc legal in this area?

It depends on where excatly you live - each town probably has some antiquated ordinance or law either allowing it or banning it - Westchester County occasionally enacts its power to ban open fires - Even so I do not believe the fire pits sold in stores are considered to be "open fires" - at least if you use them accoring to the user instructions which we all read right??? good question though - I wonder if these "pits" fall under the "barbeque" laws?

I recently just took a codes class and the NY Code instructor said currentlly there is nothing in the state/international code addressing those issues. As SFD said it would then come down to local ordinance.
