Description Of Incident: Above units responded to the YPD radio room, on a report of an officer (LT.) down with a possible seizure or cardiac problem. The Lt. was transported to St. Josephs Hospital Emergency Room by ESU and Empress paramedics and then transfered a short time later to WCMC, at which time he under-went emergency surgery for an annyerism and died during the surgery later in the day.

Lt. Steger was #1 on the Captains list & to be promoted very soon.

Died: May 14, 2006

John Steger was self employed before his appointment to the YPD, earning 23,400, at which time he was assigned to the 4th Pct, on patrol. In 1988 he was reassigned to the 1st Pct. John was a outgoing individual and a good communicator, whose talents were put to use when he was transfered to the traning unit and was a certified firearms instructor training the members of YPD. On Sept 6,1996 he was promoted to Sgt. and assigned as a patrol supervisor in the 3rd Pct. On February 19, 1999 he was again promoted, this time to the rank of Lt. and was assigned over the next few years to the 1st and 3rd Pcts. On 01/01/2001 he was assigned to the communications division as the supervisor, where he has remained for the last 5 years. Lt John Steger was the recepient of many department awards as well as many letters of appreciation from the public. REST IN PEACE.

Arrangements as follows: Wake - Wednesday May 17th (2-4 / 7-9) Lincoln Park Funeral home on Mclean Avenue.

Funeral on Thursday May 18th at 10:00am Mass Annunciation Church, 470 Westchester Avenue, Yonkers, Internment in Fishkill.
