Boston Cops Say Bank Robber Poses As Firefighter

CBS4) BOSTON The FBI is hot on the trail of a bank robber wearing in an unusual disguise.

He hit a downtown bank in Boston, dressed as a fireman.

The guy dressed like a firefighter turned heads as he entered the bank. So much for blending in.

He told the teller "this is a robbery. I have a gun." But he never showed it.

It was just before 10 a.m. when he hit the Bank of America on Washington street. And just moments after exiting with some cash, he ducked into the New England Medical Center, which is virtually next door, to dump his firefighting gear in a men's room trash can.

He's described as a white guy in his early 40's -- maybe younger -- standing roughly 5'7" and weighing about 160 pounds. Both his hair and eyes are brown, and he's got a mustache.

His outfit might well be a first in bank robbing history.

The apparently authentic Boston Fire department Coat is the orange and black waist length model worn by the dive team. The helmet is also the real deal, the kind worn by engine and ladder company 21 in East Boston.

The Boston Fire Department has been asked to look at the helmet and jacket to see if they can shed some light on who those items might have belonged to.

The bank robber was also wearing gray pants with paint stains on them.
