Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory

FLOOD STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE UPTON NY 1100 AM EDT SUN APR 23 2006

...AN URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOOD ADVISORY HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR ALL OF NEW YORK CITY...ALL OF LONG ISLAND... PUTNAM...WESTCHESTER...AND ROCKLAND COUNTIES IN THE LOWER HUDSON VALLEY... AS WELL AS FAIRFIELD...NEW HAVEN... AND MIDDLESEX COUNTIES IN CONNECTICUT....

AT 1055 AM EDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED AN AREA OF MODERATE TO HEAVY RAINFALL ACROSS THE ADVISORY AREA.

DOPPLER RADAR ESTIMATES THAT RAINFALL RATES OF BETWEEN A HALF AND THREE QUARTERS OF AN INCH PER HOUR ARE CURRENTLY FALLING.

SPOTTERS HAVE REPORTED UP TO 4 INCHES OF RAINFALL ON LONG ISLAND SO FAR WITH THIS RAIN EVENT.

AN ADDITIONAL 1 TO 2 INCHES MAY BE EXPECTED ACROSS LONG ISLAND AND CONNECTICUT...

WITH ANOTHER QUARTER TO HALF INCH ACROSS NEW YORK CITY AND THE LOWER HUDSON VALLEY. THESE RAINFALL AMOUNTS WILL CAUSE SMALL RIVERS AND STREAMS TO RISE QUICKLY. ROADWAYS WILL ALSO BECOME FLOODED.

HEAVY RAIN CONTINUES TO FALL ACROSS THE ADVISORY AREA.

RUNOFF FROM THIS EXCESSIVE RAINFALL WILL CAUSE MINOR FLOODING TO OCCUR...ESPECIALLY ALONG SMALL STREAMS AND NEAR LOW WATER CROSSINGS.

SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE... BABYLON...BRENTWOOD...BRIDGEPORT... CENTER MORICHES...CENTEREACH... CLINTON...COMMACK...DANBURY...DEER PARK...DURHAM...EAST HAMPTON AND FARMINGDALE.

The National Weather Service In Albany Has Issued An

* Urban And Small Stream Flood Advisory For Minor Flooding Of Poor Drainage Areas In... Dutchess County In East Central New York This Includes The Cities Of... Rhinebeck... Poughkeepsie... Pawling... Beacon

* Until 400 PM EDT

* At 107 PM EDT Radar Estimates And Rain Gage Reports Showed That 1 To 3 Inches Of Rain Had Fallen Across Dutchess County. Another 1 To 2 Hours Of Heavy Rain Is Expected.

Minor Flooding Of Small Streams And Poor Drainage Areas Is Expected This Afternoon. Do Not Drive Through Flood Waters.

My sister was comming home today at aprox. 1430 and she had to detour around the Saw Mill Park Way near the Hawthorn exit, she was traveling North bound.

Up in Fairfield today we had extremly high river flooding. Some places were 6 feet deep and up. It was mainly contained to the Stratfield/ East side of town and along the I95 area. Busy day for FF's all over the region.
