New European Style Front End

12 posts in this topic

My department has been looking to replace one of our old engines. We have been looking around at a lot of companies and what they have to offer. While at the Fire Expo some members saw a new European style front end. I was wondering if anyone had more information about it as well as if there are any advantages to it? I was also wondering how you felt it looked? Any information would be a big help.

P.S. If anyone has pictures of the front end they would be greatly appreciated because if could not find any. Thanks again

Josh S

What was the name of the manufacturer, if you remember?

Could it be the Sutphen 'Imperial'..Check out the Sutphen Corporation site, and click on Imperial....Click her for link: Sutphen Corp.

Spartan offers the Gladiator chassis with the Classic and Evolution fron ends. The Classic is the standard front end grill and light housings. The evolution is the more "rounded" aerodynamic style. I think it is just preference. The Pierce Quantam also falls into the "newer" front ends. I personally like the older style front ends we see now on apparatus. However I think the rounded front cabs like the Lafrance's, Hahn's and TMC front ends are the classic style where most of the new European style come from. Just a matter of preference and having the trucks look differnet from the present boxy style.

Hahn's did have the rounded edges, but overall, still pretty boxy, but still a classic.

The Sutphen Imperial front looks good with the Escalade headlights, just needs some tints and spinners, or those euro glow underbody lights.

They mean the "euro style" like they have been designing cars. BMW's Mercedes Et al. Not the Scania or Volvo truck front ends. I think it is more of a term than anything.

Click on "Berufsfeurwher" on the left. Then click on Fahrzuegen" also on the left. You'll be able to click and view all the types of rigs they have. The wording is in german, but you're just gonna want to look at the pics. You can click on the individual pics to blow them up. If you need translation, lemme know.

click on Technik on the left and it will bring up all their apparatus as well. Click on the individual pics and it'll bring up all the models of that particular rig they have.

I still bounce back between Germany and the states. While I was partaking in at the Fire Academy for the city of Frankfurt, I got the opportunity to see and operate ALL of their apparatus. Here's the companies they use. Rosenbauer, Mercedes Benz. Scania , MAN and Volvo also make a good rig. Stateside I belive that Frieghtliner and Sutphen and ALF have contracts with Rosenbauer in making new Rigs.
