8 Yonkers police officers being promoted today

YONKERS — Two lieutenants are among eight Yonkers police officers who are scheduled to be promoted to higher ranks in the department today.

Lts. Charles Fara and Edward Geiss will become captains this morning at a promotion ceremony at the Yonkers Riverfront Library.

Yonkers Mayor Phil Amicone and Police Commissioner Robert Taggart are scheduled to speak at the 9:30 a.m. ceremony.

Fara and Geiss will be promoted to the highest rank of the people promoted today.

Sgts. Peter Fazio, Daniel Medlar and Christopher Melvin will become lieutenants. Police Officers Matthew Henry, Joseph Solicito and Kallid Nassar will be promoted to sergeant.

The eight are being promoted to fill vacancies left by officers who retired.
