Mask Confidence Class

In my department we are required to have taken a mask confidence along with FF1 or its equivalent (Basic, intermediate.....) in order to gain interior status. My department offers the course every year in May but unfortunetly I will not be able to take it in May because I am currently attending college in Rochester, NY and I do not get out until almost June. I was wondering if anyone knows of a Mask Confidence Class that is being held over the summer and/or if anyone is actually having one. Please just leave a post if you can give me any leads that I would be able to look into.

Heres some webpages for various Training Centers in the area. I couldn't find any info on any Mask Confidence courses during the time you were looking for. My suggestion would be to continuosly check the websites for updates.

Contact Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services. They often have an summer FF1 class where the instructor can put you through the mask confidance course.

I did mask confidence in my FF1 course but I am looking for more of a dedicated Mask Confidence course in the area of 15 hours or so.

As of right now, there is not a State class in SCBA confidence available for outreach delivery. It is available for Recruits in the Recruit Firefighter Training program at the State Academy.

The State OFPC is in the process of developing an SCBA Confidence Class. I work with one of the State Instructors who is in the process of putting together the curriculum. The two major Instructors developing the class are Norm Carroll from the Manlius Fire Department and Bill Hanarhan from the Orchard Park Fire Department. They both have been instructors at the NYS Fire Academy in Montour Falls, and Bill has been an instructor at the FIRE Expo (usually the lead instructor for TIC Ops).

The goal is to "Pilot" the class around the state this summer, one in/around Orchard Park, one in Central NY (Syracuse area), and other areas around the state. Once the "Pilot" classes are complete, Bill and Norm will certify other state instructors at the Fall instructors conferences.

Keep in mind the Fall is the goal, but it may not happen until the Spring Instructor's Conference. Once other instructors are certified, you should see SCBA confidence classes springing up around the state.

Notice the class is called SCBA Confidence, not Mask Confidence. That was a conscious decision to remove some of the "occupational slang" we tend to use. When I know more, I'll post it here.
