  1. Wolf, may be a waste of space, but dont tell me that you wouldnt like a date with her.
  2. I hope they reattached it just so the guy can suffer somemore, lol.
  3. Can someone tell me what two patients are alike? how about the placement of these pads? they arent in the same place either. To me, sounds like people just dont have much else to do but try and make it seem like emts are not doing their jobs. Oh, heres another one, ever notice that EMTs are never mentioned, its always paramedics?
  4. great concept, but dont you think we are growing too big for ourselves? Bigger is better, but when you look at the big picture, if it causes a lot of airports to spend money on improvements to runways and loading areas, I dont see them being all that successful. Probably better suited for cargo than passengers.
  5. From what i have heard, a lot of members arent thrilled with tower 3. they believe it is slow, and they arent in love with the fact that its a rearmount. As for the Mack, id love to see it refurbed. Such a great looking truck, dont know why anyone would ever get rid of one of them. They take beating after beating and with a little PM, they will last years. Look at Pelham Manor TL3, little rust on the outside, but overall, from the outside it still looks like like its half as old as its 30 years. Sure the older rigs dont have all the bells and whistles of todays, but IMO, they have much more character.
  6. I prefer ten codes. IMO, with all of the radio traffic on 46.26, ten codes are a lot shorter than plain english therefore tying up less air time. The problem comes in with different departments using different ten codes. one standard set should be used for operation on 46.26 so that regardless of the department, anyone listening to the radio will know if someone is in trouble or what is going on, without having to tie up more air trying to figure out what ten code someone is using.
  7. great post
  8. I thought i heard portchester dispatching themselves this morning, any news on how the switch is going?
  9. Anyone know which others are up on the chopping block? I like Eng 89 Lad 50 "Cuckoos Nest"
  10. R1, Couldnt you gain that space back by making the cab a two door and extending the body up, thereby giving you more compartments on the outside so you arent losing by putting a walk through?
  11. perhaps the real question is not about the departments doing it, but about ourselves. We chose to join the department, and we know what the job entails, so one would have to think that if it is our job to go in and rescue someone and we barely get ourselves into the building with our gear on, one has to look in the mirror and question themselves when the person 10 feet from the door doesnt make it out.
  12. what do you mean they havent desided on a designation yet?
  13. worst stretch of road to drive: Bronx Parkway from the Sprain split up to the county center. The road is way to narrow for todays cars and people just dont know how to drive them. Worst stretch for traffic: Hutch northbound from the city line to the cross county exit ramp. two lanes of bumper to bumper traffic with everyone merging in and no one getting off. Plus all the traffic from the left lane wants to exit, its a wonder there arent more accidents. If they just continued the acceleration lane from the lincoln ave entrance to the exit lane for the cross county which isnt more than a few hundred feet, i think it would solve many problems. There are many others, im sure everyone has their own, I could personally name about ten more, but these two are at the top of the list
  14. Its not about training and hiring more medics. There is a shortage of medics all over the country, and when one can go to the private sector and make more money than working for the city, you quickly find yourself trying to play catchup.
  15. Donate it to someone else, a department somewhere in the US im sure can use an engine, im sure some of the equipment in rural america is in much worse shape than E 91.
  16. very well put DG796, very well put. =D> =D>
  17. Great that everyone is expanding, but it doesnt solve the immediate need, what happens until everyone is done building? we are going to sit, suffer, and wait, while our patients sit on the stretcher wondering why they called in the first place.
  18. 901, you and I know all too well. Thats why I work the nights I work, the Doc and staff those nights are usually pretty good. Speaking of, I brought a patient in yesterday at 8am, there were four patients in the ER and we had to wait 20 minutes for a nurse who was sitting in a chair to take a report. On top of that, she made it seem that we interupted her while she was doing CPR on your arrest.
  19. I have found that in the not so recent past that hospitals use diversion when they are understaffed. I have been to two hospitals in the area, both at night with four or five open beds in the ER, and they asked why the patient was brought in because they were on diversion. When asked why they were on diversion seeing as they had plenty of open beds, they said we are the only ones here, meaning the doc, and two or three nurses. IMO, the diversion status is being abused by the hospitals, and when EMS sees this they stop honoring the diversion status.
  20. IMO, Firehouse.com has taken a nose dive in this last week. First the training story, and now the top stories of the year. Sorry but LOD deaths is the top story every year, and a movie, unless it spurs some huge change in the way we conduct everyday business on the fireground shouldnt make the list in a thousand years.
  21. Way too big I think, and it looks like it only carries maybe 800 ft of total hose. How are they going to fight a fire if they use half their hose laying a supply line? And did you see how high the hose bed is, thats asking for an injury by going up and then having to step off. It looks good, but sure doesnt seem to practical if you ask me.
  22. I was wondering that myself. Are they trying to be a resource for fire depts that dont have equipment, or maybe try and contract with the state for big accidents and investigations? If not, then it doesnt seem worth it, to have a truck like that in a private fleet if it isnt going to be utilized.
  23. plectron, that happens every year at midnight. doesnt matter which cell phone carrier you have, nextel, sprint, verizon. everyone wants to make that all important phone call right as the clock strikes. Me, I wait the hour and can complete all my calls in about 10 minutes instead of 2 hours.
  24. IMO, the explanation that he wanted it to be unexpected and wanted to see the less experienced members under some stress is not a bad idea. The way he went about it, by not having a water source, not having a hand line in case something went wrong, that is a problem. The use of exterior operations only, which i would think looking at the pictures was used, could also be meant to keep track of everyone, insuring the safety of the less experienced members if the burn did in fact get out of control.
