I think it's a wonderful idea. Pros: operators remember that all their moves are being recorded and may drive more defensively to promote due regard; video recording of actual events so that all others can see what the operator saw. cuts out the bs in the versions of the stories from "witnesses". Finally a great tool for training and debriefing. cons: video recording of the actual events should an operator not be operating with due regard. overall in the beginning it may not be so good but down the road after use for some time it wll do nothing but increase the skills of the operators and safety for all.

Having Hudson as an instructor at the FTC for simulations I can only say he knows his stuff, can effectively communicate with personalities of all types and I have nothing but the best to say of his character with my little experience with him. For the city to do this to him especially with his expertise from the Air force the city is out of their mind. The city deserves to get this man as a Lt. as well as sanctions against the city. Hudson, gl with everything and you deserve the promo. Shrek.

Ladder: I have no idea what they are looking at but it has some special size restrictions. Exctrication: I do not know the specifics on responses but the equipment is being transfered to E43 (with E45) on the south side of town near the parkway entrances. I was not able to attend the meeting the other night where some of this may have been discussed. As far as i know it's still designated an engine (1981 Hahn)

extrication equipment is in process of being relocated to the spare engine (E43). New engine is being desinged with compartments compatable for a 2nd set of tools if necessary. That is still in the thought process and nothing is definate. New engine is to replace E46, a 1984 Hahn, that is starting to show it's age. Looking for 500 gal tank, 50gal foam tank, multiple preconnects, LDH intake & discharge as well as other features. One big feature is to have empty compartment space on it after it's fully outfitted with equipment so we have room to carry more stuff as time goes on. We looked at it for a need for now but with room for the future.

To add some more to my prior post, I am not critizing this man, only the politics involved. I will gladly give anyone a chance to demonstrate their skills before passing judgement on the individual. Again my comment (thought out in my crazy head & not put into words) was to critize the politics involved similar to prior recent historical events.

Kinda reminds me of the fiasco in FEMA after Katrina where the old secretary was replaced with a chief from Miami-Dade. The old secretary had no emergency services experience and the media blasted the administration for putting someone without emergency services experience into the head of an emergency services agency. I do not know this man and I am not knocking him, I'm just a little leary of putting someone in there who has a management resume without the experience of being a grunt in that area

This was a big topic when making the specs for our new engine. What we were able to find out was that the lever does the same thing as the push button transmission, in that it's electronic and does not have any hard linkage to the tranny. It is a preference and the guts of the lever style & push button style are the same, only a different cover.

Hastings is looking to purchase a new ambulance, engine (to replace E46) and a new ladder as well as other vehicles for various departments in the village over the next 2 years. Replacement specs for the engine are almost complete and hopefully will go out to bid in the next few months. I do not have any info on the ladder or ambulance.

insurance case law describes leaving the keys in the car/ignition equals implied permissive use and the insurance will cover it.

GO STRAIGHT TO JACOBI!!!!!!!!!!!!! They have a relationship with the Bronx Zoo for the snake handlers and the anti venom is either at the Zoo or Jacobi and Jacobi has access to it 24/7. This was something learned in my original EMT over a decade ago.

The GWB is under the control of the Port Authority which has the use for all their properties within a reasonable response. I would not be surprised to see it on a response to Teterboro Airport. TZ under control of NYS which has far fewer potential targets PA is a big agency but the TA is not much compared to them. I agree with Chris that Nyack & Tarrytown are right there and no matter what in any serious accident there is going to be an investigation tying up lanes so it would not matter. Just a few points. If the TZ does get something they will probably double to tolls to pay for it.

Interesting video and something I learned from an incident safety officer course was to see what else was going on. One quick observation at the 4:08 time mark to the end, is that the ariel is in put up through the overhead pole to pole wires.

Chris; No offense taken. I was just adding my 2 cents as an insurance professional I handled ambulance malpractice claims for a few years while working for an independant adjustment firm. THey were rare but only on the commercial sector. The agencies that are part of a municipality (Hastings FD & Elmsfords FD as examples) MAY be immune from professional liability (malpractice) because they are a government entity. There is a great lawfirm run by a paramedic, the Krafsur Law Firm, out of Chicago, run by Jay Krafsur. He has years of paramedic experience in Colorodo and consults may agencies and was my consultant on a few cases (yes the insurance carrier did have to pay for his time). I can only talk about the insurance aspect of this topic but any legal advise should be sought from your agencies legal counsel.

Good samaratin laws apply to the general public, not to a person who is responding to assist in their professional capacity (EMS/1st responder). Malpractice suits occur quite often against EMTs and Paramedics. Most cases also involve litigation against the hospital and ER staff as well. YOur agency SHOULD have this in addition to general liability & auto liability insurance. There are very few programs out there that offer this type of coverage so read the fine print to see what is covered and when. If you only respond to your calls with your agency then you should be covered under them as their employee (Paid or Volunteer does not matter).

I agree with you however the media reported that there was a 6 foot hole in the fence near where this incident occured and LIRR immediately repaired it soon after this incident. They will probably argue that there was a defective condition, improper security and the tracks were an attractive nuisance. LIRR will probably settle to avoid litigation expenses. Sucks but that's life in lawsuits. Thats where these pig lawyers exploit the system and the public. There could be laws to strengthen negligence of the the injured party but that will not happen in NY because the legislature is full of ambulance chasers like S. Silver.
