I feel they are still needed. When fighting a fire don't we stretch a 2nd line as back up? THe audible horn/alarm systems are just that, a back up to modern technology. I can tell you that there have been times something has gone with the radio system and the only way to get the message out quickly there was a call was to sound the horn. Now Hastings does have hours set for it's horn, something like 6am to 10 or 11pm. However if I hear the horn going in the overnight hours to get going asap because it's not good. -
There is another hydrogen fueling station at the GM training facility on Saw Mill River Rd. in Hastings. GM has worked with us when this was established. The fuel is kept in cylinders on a flatbed next to the fueling compressor. It has automatic valves on the system to disperse the gas into the atmosphere and it appears to be a very safe operation. Hydrogen will burn VERY fast and since it is the lightest gas on the element chart it rises extremely fast so basically the hydrogen burns in a flash and the remaining fire is the other materials that ignited. I wonder if WPFD found anything different at this response then what they trained for at this facility.

FYI Tarrytown operates on it's own frequency so they are the only ones on it. Just like Hastings & Ardsley.

I looked at that article and it does not appear to have anything to do with water supply. Why would a tanker be needed for stand by in this area unless there is something wrong with the water supply

Thank you. I will change the date on my calendar.

I thought it was Wed. July 2nd.

nice shots. One thing I noticed in the pictures is the "For Rent" sign on the front lawn. Makes me wonder what the economy is going to do for the fire service.

I echo everyone elses sentiments. Good luck, be safe, may God bless you & protect you and finally Thank you. We have an active member at my house who is currently serving in Iraq and will be there for the next 14 months.

The newbies will be fighting to get Field Comm to the scenes and don't be surprised if George sets up a few cameras from the vehicle roof. Seriously congrats

Hastings is a municipal FD.

What is going on that so many chiefs are being toned out to call 60 control?

JC: It's amazing it too so long for them to agree that somthing this obvious happened. Good luck and hopefully you get what you deserve which is not only the promotion + benefits but also the respect you deserve. Maybe the politicans will now see the light (doubtful but I try to be hopeful)

I have nothing to hide and commend others who sign their names to posts under their screen names. I could have used my nickname, Shrek, as a screen name but chose not to. One Idea for this, in the middle of the road, is first name with last initial.

What a horrible way to start off a new year. 3 LODD (Nationwide) in the first 3 days of 2008. This is unaccecptable. The first 2 were vehicle accident related and the 3rd is currently unknown cause. What are we doing wrong?? Why are we on the pace for 366 LODD this year?? I'm not placing blame at anyone or anywhere but what are we missing to reduce the numbers of LODD. Last year there where 115 and the year before 106. I wish I knew the answers and hope that all stay safe and come home from every alarm. May God watch over us and please protect us.

They are in the process of drafting the specs for a new ladder to go to bid in the next year or two. From what I've heard they are staying with a tiller

I agree with you. My reasoning for putting it as a con was from a civil claims perspective, there are reduced arguments for the defense of the operator. I am all for video cameras in the vehicles that have a minimum of 10 minutes video history (maybe 8 minutes prior to accident and 2 minutes post accident) also I believe the video should have audio and connections to the on board vehicle computer to determine if the emergency lights are activated, spedometer and a brake indicator.
