Westchester EMS - Northern Westchester 45 Medics - 5695, up from 5202 in 2014, an increase of 9.5%. Busiest year yet. 5679 covered by WEMS fly-cars and ALS ambulances (99.7%), 16 went to mutual aid (0.3%), of those only 2 resulted in an ALS transport. The fly-cars responded 22 times for mutual aid, including to Mt. Pleasant, Yorktown, Putnam, Ossining and Stamford. Westchester EMS ambulances responded to 533 911 calls via 60-Control. Those included ALS ambulances as fly-cars, direct response to facilities and mutual aid to local agencies.

You must make a "good faith" effort to collect from all patients, including co-pays. A "good faith" effort does not have to include sending patients to collections, but it does include sending bills directly to the patient. "Soft billing", as described, is against Medicare, and most private insurance, regulations. An exception to this is that municipal ambulance services, that operate with tax dollars, can soft bill, if tax monies collected are specifically stated to offset lost billing revenue for residents only. If a municipality contracts with an ambulance service, that can be written into the contract as long as tax monies are used to pay for the contract. Again, this only applies to residents, not non-residents.

Armonk FD reliably has drivers, so the EMT will not be waiting for other personnel. The fire district chose WEMS due to the existing relationship with the medics. An RFP for 2015 will be forthcoming, the current contract is short term. This is a step in the right direction for providing consistent EMS to the district residents.

There are no current open per-diem EMT positions but they do open regularly. If interested, I would recommend getting an application in.

So the Westchester EMS agency numbering scheme is basically in alphabetical order. 70B1 is Mount Kisco VAC, 72B1 is North Salem VAC. Who was 71B1? The only municipality that makes sense here is Mount Vernon. Did Mount Vernon have it's own VAC at one time? The thought struck me today and am now curious.

Is it possible that number 71 was reserved for Mt. Vernon anyway? 85 is also missing and that fits in where Yonkers would be (between 84 Vista and 86 Yorktown). I know Yonkers used to have a VAC but I figured that was longer than 20 years ago.

Kind of amazed at the level of misinformation presented here. The basic facts are: The Somers Fire District did originally end the WEMS dispatching contract as of 12/31/13. At their request, they extended the contract twice, currently slated to end 9/30/14. WEMS agreed to this for the benefit of the district and the town. This gives them the needed time to fully switch to 60-Control, which is the current plan. The plan for WEMS is to re-locate our dispatch center to our HQ where it can better be managed at the end of the current contract. Prior to WEMS being contracted in 2002, SFD employed their own dispatchers. They felt rather than continue to manage staff, it would be beneficial to outsource for personnel. The staff is shared between the two services which saved SFD a considerable amount of money rather than having dedicated dispatchers. In addition to dispatching, the dispatchers provide a considerable number of services including monitoring security cameras for four stations with over a dozen pieces of equipment. They also help manage the LOSAP system, state reporting, and possibly most importantly they provide a 24 hour emergency presence in town, since there is no full time police department. This was well appreciated with the recent storms of the last few years. The SFD continues to evaluate the costs and benefits of using their own dispatchers, with WEMS, or switching to 60-Control. There's really no "drama" or "controversy".

Sam's injuries are severe. Everyone at WEMS is hoping for a speedy and full recovery for our friend and colleague Sam Lubin.

Stellaris has not been dissolved, it is still in place as a shared services entity, rather than a parent corporation, for the four Stellaris hospitals. Westchester EMS remains one of those shared services. The four hospitals have committed to continue utilizing WEMS as their transport provider and transfer call center. That commitment will continue whether WEMS is part of Stellaris, or if it becomes a stand-alone company in the future. WEMS is working with Somers FD on their transition to 60-Control and will continue to serve the FD and citizens of the Town of Somers as long as needed. Tomorrow is a funeral for one of the children from Newtown who also happened to be the relative of two members of the FDNY, two men I work with. This young boy loved firefighters and like all young children wanted to be one someday. In light of his dreams our presence as firefighters is requested in Class A uniform at 10am at St. Rose church in Newtown for a lineup. This is not limited to members of anyone dept any FD members cab show their respect to this young Little boy Daniel Barden.

Lenny was a former EMT with Westchester EMS before leaving to work for FDNY. Everyone at Westchester EMS is deeply saddened by this news. Our thoughts go out to his family, friends and co-workers. May he rest in peace.

All the information comes from the report given at the September township meeting. These regular meetings are attended by Town Supervisors, other town officials, police chiefs, town OEM officers, VAC officers, hospital administrators, physicians and Stellaris and WEMS management. I'd rather pass along that information than have people state incorrect information.

Again, that's really up to the towns to decide.

Personally, I'd say somewhere in the Bedford Village Fire District. This could improve response times to Bedford Village, Armonk, Banksville and Pound Ridge. Obviously, it would depend on finding a place to house it. Again, a decision like that would be up to the towns.
