  1. Seth, I can clearly see where your concern is but I have seen first hand that the respect is not there for first responders doing their job. While there may be a medical excuse for the behavior and I am sure her lawyer will exploit this whether there is or isn't one, there is no excuse for an assault on a person in the performance of their official duties. That is the reason that it was made a felony to assualt a EMS worker, firefighter, nurse, doctor, or bus driver (I am sure I forgot a few). It is a deterant to know you will not be getting a slap on the wrist if found guilty and that is the point presumed innocent until found guilty. But lets face it, even if the woman ends up with a medical or psychatric reason for her behavior the publicizing of her arrest has sent a message loud and clear to anyone else who thinks of assaulting an official in the performance of their duties. Lets not forget the Kennedy case that sent the other message that it is ok as long as you can explain your actions. Message sent is clear: "No excuses, hands off".

  3. New Years Eve will never be the same again. RIP Richard Wagstaff "Dick" Clark.
  4. Since when is a malfunction normal. You should put the engineer who made that comment up there and have it happen. I am sure he will change his tune and his shorts.
  5. My thoughts and prayers are with Lt Nappi's family and friend's in the difficult and trying time.
  6. Really well written and positive article. Glad to see that they recognized the dispatchers and call receiving operators who work so hard in the background and are easily forgotten. About time there's some positive press in this negative world. By the way Ray, nice picture

  8. Moose, I can tell you that you are on the money with your thinking. As a survivor of 2 MIs and overweight myself, it is an every day struggle. As we get older the weight gets harder to get off. It leads to bad backs, joint pain, and other associated injuries not to mention shortening life and never seeing that retirement check.
  9. While you have to feel for the family of the woman, Anita Williams-Eiene, 27, of the Bronx, you can not forget the two drivers that have the haunting thoughts that in some way their actions, right, wrong or indifferent, attributed to this young womans horrible death. While we can all Monday morning quarterback this tragic accident with all the hearsays and third party info the fact is it does nothing to bring her back or change the situation. Only after a complete accident investigation will there be any answers as to how and why it happened and who is at fault. May Anita Williams-Eiene rest in peace.
  10. Great pictures, thanks for sharing. Just curious, what is the purpose of a "bring to the scene" helicopter. Anyone have info on when it would be used? Obviously cheaper than a full scale bird.
  11. I did find that the Frequency section was useful if a job was active and you wanted to follow it.
  12. Jetphoto called it a Bandaid because that is exactly what it is a big expensive bandaid. Lets face it New York is not exactly know for its top quality, cost effective, on time highway projects. All one needs to do is look at the route 287 bandaid. This mornings rush hour was more of an amputation than a bandaid with the Taconic at a standstill and 9A equally as bad from Montrose to Briarcliff. The lights on 9A seemed to not be able to handle the massive amount of extra volume. Timed to short and out of sync.
  13. Spoken like someone not effected by the tolls. Sounds like a knee jerk reaction not a solution to a problem.
  14. Bet your boss would have said yes if you said the word "helicopter-pool".
  15. My heart goes out to Chief Rush and his family. No parent should ever have to experience the horror of burying their child.
  16. Seems like a natural fit. Between the Jets and the Mets all that ever goes on is a lot of praying anyway.
  17. I would be interested to hear if there are any "lessons learned" post incident from the Carmel response from the agencies involved that may be of use to others that can be shared in a public forum. Like they say hind sight is 20/20 and plans that look good on paper usually show their flaws when put through the motions.
  18. Back in the 80's NYC EMS would routinely have their MERVs respond to the ED and pick up an attending and 2 RNs when responding to certain MCIs e.g. aircraft emergencies, building collapses, etc. So having an MD respond to an MCI is not a new concept but certainly one that would need to be planned for an not allowed to run without protocols or guidelines. Even MDs in an ED have established protocols that they operate within. While an MD does have more discretionary leeway than a medic they do have limits.
  19. By the sign on the roof in the first picture you wonder if he was off-roading on the "trail" at the time of the accident. Nice pictures.
  20. The same way the things in your pants pockets don't get wet when you wash them. You take them out first.
  21. Ok I am not picking sides and not definitely not agreeing with the Vulcan Society but I am just curious after reading the article: How many people in total were turned away. Aside from the 60 white males that were refused entrance for lack of a "email acceptance ticket" were any other people turned away and what were their demographics. What I am getting at is: Is this truly an issue or is it a convenient non-issue that coupled with a high profile and albeit blood-sucking group that wants to hand jobs away at the expense of better trained candidates in the name of race equality is being made into an issue. Just my two cents. PS. Goose, trashing your ticket is a knee jerk reaction that you will regret later. Don't do it. The only one that is paying in that scenario is you not the Vulcans. You want to make a difference study, score high, join the job and make a difference there.
  22. Stay Calm Dad Video http://www.maniacworld.com/flv/stay-calm-dad.mp4 From http://www.maniacworld.com In light of all the negative we see it is nice to see a positive video.
  23. Unfortunately the sadness deepens in Chardon Township outside of Cleveland as the death toll rose to three with three more still hospitalized and countless more still effected for life. NY Times Article
  24. Rumor has it that the BB OS 10 will be for the BB touch platforms like the Playbook and the Torch anyway and not the Bold series. If you had gotten the Torch there will probably be an OS over-the-air upgrade released after they finish the BETA (lets see how many phone we can fry) tests are complete.
