Tarrytown VAC has a switch installed on both of our rigs that when activated allows the driver to leave the rig running but have the key on their person. The key must be reinserted into the ignition to operate the rig. If the key is not in the ignition when someone goes to switch gears, once the brake pedal is pressed the rig shuts off preventing it from being moved.

In an example in Westcher is the town of Greenburgh which includes: -the unincorporated town of Greenburgh (big picture) - the incorporated villages of Greenburgh (Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Elmsford, Hastings-on-Hudson, Irvington, and Tarrytown) (multiple small pictures) -the hamlets of Greenburgh (Hartsdale, the only one I can think of) (even smaller picture) The unincorporated town has a police department, is compromised of 3 fire districts (Fairview, Hartsdale, Greenville), and has their own town gov't. The incorporated villages each have their own police department, fire department, and village government. The hamlets usually have their own fire department, but use the services of the town PD and town government. That's a brief synopsis. Feel free to add or correct.

Grumpy, Obviously, I am not a P.O. However, through some of the experiences I've had in the past, many of times a P.O. will be appointed to a unit and after a certain amount of time will get promoted to Detective, etc. Not saying that this is the case with C.E.'s Security Detail.

Any word on how the day went?

The only problem I see is that multiple departments use the same vehicle numbers. i.e. Tarrytown P.D. and Greenburgh P.D. have various units with the same car number. Also, I have seen patrol cars that have switched numbers and the numbers on the side don't match the numbers on the roof. i.e. XX marked on the sides and licence plate but XY on the roof.

Since I just saw the helicopter in Chris' avatar, it just popped into my head, could the Bambi-Bucket on Air 3 have been used in this operation? Or is this too hazardous of a situation for the flight crew and those on the ground to use a helo?

Oswego, Sorry if my comment about the "A" seemed vein. I didn't mean for it to stir much discussion. I know that they will be used to help the sick and injured and we all know that these vehicles will be a second home to many, so the "A" doesn't really matter. It was just something I noticed, I wasn't trying to make it seem as if that was the only thing I cared about. As long as they keep their crews safe, I could really care less what was written.

From when I used to go to CT Stations Day and the regional competitions, here are some examples of what goes on: 2 man teams: Traffic Stop Felony Stop First Aid Unkown Response Domestic Dispute High Stress Situations Shoot/Don't Shoot Individual Competitors: Mountain Bike Obstacle Course Judgemental Driving Shooting Range Firearms (shooting range) 4 man teams: Crime Scene Investigation Hostage Negotiation At the end of the day there was the cruiser push in which 4 explorers pushed a cruiser with an explorer behind the wheel and a staff member in the passenger seat a certain amount of feet for the best time. Awards were given out at the end of the day in the auditorium of the CT State Police Academy. I'm sure there were more events as I'm going off the top of my head, and I'm sure some may have changed. SageVigiles might be able to add more.

Haha you too brother. From what I've heard there are a lot of new posts down here that are going to give you veteran guys a run for your money. Stay safe.

I believe the event is being run by the Greenburgh PD Explorers. Best of luck to everyone as I can't come down to be of any assistance. The program has come a long way from when I joined in 2003 and left as Captain in 2006.

The "A" in Putnam on the back of PC-4 looks awfully strange.

This product is installed on some of the gates at playland, it worked great with our portables.

yes, Tarrytown had 2 Mack CF's. x635 is right, on of them, the old E-79 went to Mt. Vernon, what happened to the other is far beyond my time in the department.
-
Both Engine 76 and Engine 79 were Mack CF's. The old Engine 79, as far as I know, is in use by the Mt. Vernon Fire Department. Not sure if they still have it, but the did purchase it a few years ago when it was replaced with a 2001 E-One. Engine 78 was a 1980 Hahn. That was replaced in 2005 by the current apparatus, Tower Ladder 78, a 2005 ALF Mid Mount. The Hahn was donated by the village to a department in Tennessee who was using an apparatus from the 1950's as their front line piece.

Books are overrated... lol. Starting my 3rd year at Quinnipiac in Hamden, CT. Good luck ladies and gents. Have a fun and safe semester.

Early Mack CF If you scroll down to close to the bottom of the page, you will find an Early Mack CF from Weymouth (MA?). Right above that you will see a Mack C from Valhalla and several other Macks at the Kensico Dam.

Jumper Pulled from Tappan Zee from the Journal News. Tarrytown FD and VAC were paged out, but were told to cancel the response shortly thereafter. This would have been our 5th jumper since March 1.

I've never seen Nextel work so well.

I do remember one case when I man jumped off the bridge to save his life because he was on fire after the car he was in broke down and was rear ended by a semi. From what I remember, the man was alive at the time he was rescued. I do not know if he later succumbed to his injuries.

I know that Quinnipiac and Yale University security also use the cruise mode on their light bars.

Can any of you FDNY guys tell me if you say "taking in the box, k" when on scene.

Saw this on SNOPES.com the other day. Must say I would love to have seen this.

You know you're a buff when you can tell what truck is in your rear view mirror based on the light set up.

I was wondering how everyone else did on their test results for the November White Plains PD test? I scored an 85.
