I heard about it on saturday.... Its hard to say if its going to work. Think about what does GPS stand for. Global position system. All run by satellites, right? How is a satelite going to see where a FF is if they are in a basement of a forty story building fighting a fire? We cant even get XM radio in a tunnel and thats just a simple radio frequency. If the worked out that issue then it might work. I also heard that the person and/or persons that came out with this did so prior to 2001 and had lots of trouble getting through the right channels to get it approved...

I would prefer to park the rig behind the vehicle involved in the piaa to establish a safer working zone UNLESS another rig on location has done so. Protect yourselves at all cost even it cost you an ambulance..
-
LOL!!! Freaking WAY TO FUNNY!!!!!
-
Well said ATIFD.... And might I say welcome to EMTBRAVO land CHIEF!!!!
-
If i am not mistaken...... Brewster FD's source truck (11-2-1) has closed in top mounted pump panel!!
-
I have always liked top mounted pumps. For the simply reason you can see either side of the rig. You can see someone taking equipment but more so you can see the hose to the house. It might sound silly but the FF's are working in the house and thier screaming for more pressure and you can easily look over to see if there is a kink or something hampering the hoseline. Where as if your on the side mount pump and the lines are coming off the otherside you have to go walk away from pump panel and look. Same goes if your drafting. If your drafting ( no Hydrants here) off the passenger side you cant keep an eye on it. But most important it keeps you off the roadway when on the interstate. Just my opinion.

not sure how to word this so hopefully this comes out right..... I understand NFPA is a standard and we are to live by them but how can they say " you can't ride anywhere on the rig unless seatbelted" in one sentence and then in two other sentences say " while doing XYZ and the rig is in motion its ok just as long as you have SOP on all safety aspects"?????
-
NICE!!!! LOL!!!!!
-
Zeer- He rides on either the tailboard or the mid-mount pump area. Again only on short distants. Let me say this. I stated my opinion to answer FireCapt question NOT TO BE bashed and for what my opinion is to be picked apart and anylized. This seems to be a big problem with this site and it get said over and over by members if someone starts a post stick to the subject do not start picking on the answers people give. IF you don't like what I say or what my opinion is then feel free to email me or PM me!!! with that being said , I hope everyone had a nice Holiday!!!

My Opinion is its fine. A lot of departments need the public relations and thats why they do it. Just as long as your not fooling around, not jumping around or horse playing and you pay attention to what your doing and why your there you'll be fine. When they are outside on the rig it only goes 5 to 10 mph. When the rig goes faster they are in the cab. We don't throw the candy canes our santa get off the rig every street and hands them to the kids. Yes, I know accidents happen but they can happen when your getting in or out of the cab also. I know Chief Goldfeder would have my head for saying this and I will get bashed because I think its ok but I will continue participating as long as we are aloud to. I will watch over the crew as if they are my kids.

Uniform Training Standards All Firefighters entering the Fire Service in Putnam County after August 1,2002 must comply with the following training standards: To receive an Interior Firefighter Accountability Tag, Departments will certify via Interior Firefighter Form that subjects have successfully completed the Basic Firefighter Course,(#91) the Intermediate Firefighter Course (#92) and Firefighter Survival (#87) . Above is the Putnam County Standard for an Interior Firefighter. After that we are issued a County accountability tag that is to be handed in where ever we go mutual aid.If you don't have the tag you can't go mutual aid.

While I think there is a problem with "BARS" in fire house's, is that the real issue here. It seems to me the problem is drinking and responding to calls not there are alcohol served at installation dinners, picnic's and etc...... Everybody knows that anybody can respond from bars, parties, home after swigging back a few six packs. What happens there? Who is responsable? WE ARE!!!! We are the ones that need to tell them to get off the truck. In 2004 a Wisconsin (not positive about the state) firefighter was enroute to a brush fire in a tanker that rolled over and killed a 17 year old junior firefighter. He came from the local bar drunk. Thats one of many stories. Its up to us to be responsible no matter where the alcohol is being served... like firecapt said "The bottom line is firefighting and alcohol don't mix".... AND MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYBODY!!!!!!
