  3. I carry two radios(highband and lowband) most of the time. One in the radio harness and one in my inside pocket with the mic hanging out either clipped to my collar or mic clip. It keeps the radio dry and out of the way. I hate that radio pocket.

  5. There is one also scheduled for Aug. 13th-15th at ALMO in Poughkeepsie.
  6. I don't think we are disrespecting anyone if we discuss this. I want to learn about this tragedy just like everyone else but I don't think we have all the facts to discuss what happened. Yes we know the Trusses failed, yes we heard they were looking for another victim but we don't know anything else everything talked about at this point is going to be speculation.
  7. REST IN PEACE CHIEF!!!
  8. Question for all the EMS providers, Members, Paid and Volunteer: Is it me or is there a problem when an ambulance gets dispatched to a hospital for a "severe alergic reaction" and the patient is located in a doctors office above the Emergency Room? I also just heard instructions from Medic three to the ambulance that the best way to access the office is to go through the emergency room.
  9. Deadliest Catch Rescue Me Two and Half Men!!! Freaking Funny!
  10. Good topic.... Its funny that we see that eveywhere here in New York but not so much else where. Not that we are a model FD but that is the exact reason we wont purchase a ladder truck. For the amount of buildings that are over two stories in our district there is no need. All the Fire Dept around us have one so we call them. Its basicly automatic mutual aid. Its a waste of money that can better used torwards something else that would better fit our response or I should say fit our district.
  11. Little confused... If there was an Incident Commander then there was a Command Post.. Why wasnt there an Law Enforcement Officer in charge at the Command Post? If there wasn't did you ask for a radio or offer one of yours so there was comunication? With so many agencies from so many different radio frequencies you are bound to have issues. I am not saying the CHIEF handled it right. I AM JUST ASKING A QUESTION!!
  12. Many highways, roads still flooded after Nor'easter By THE JOURNAL NEWS (Original Publication: April 16, 2007) Major sections of parkways and highways were closed in Westchester and Rockland counties this morning for flooding, including a section of southbound Interstate 87 in Rockland and most of the southbound Hutchinson River Parkway in Westchester, police said. Transportation officials urged commuters to be cautious about driving on roads that are open, as rain limited visibility and slowed reaction times. The following roads were closed at 8:30 a.m. WESTCHESTER Bronx River Parkway: closed at the Sprain Brook Parkway in Yonkers to Main Street in White Plains Cross County Parkway: westbound closed from the Hutchinson River Parkway to the Saw Mill Parkway Hutchinson River Parkway: northbound from exit 6 to Wilmot Road in New Rochelle; southbound closed at I-287 in White Plains to exit 7 on the New York City line Interstate 95: Exits reopened southbound at Exit 19, Rye/Harrison, but exits accessing the Hutchinson Parkway are temporarily closed. Saw Mill Parkway: closed from exit 29 Manville Road to Tuckahoe Road in Yonkers Sprain Brook Parkway: northbound closed from the Bronx River Parkway to Tuckahoe Road in Yonkers; southbound lanes closed between Jackson Avenue and the Bronx River Parkway Taconic State Parkway: closed from Commerce Street to Stevens Avenue in Valhalla Route 6: closed to Route 202, from the Bear Mountain Bridge to Route 9/Annsville Circle Route 9: closed at Main Street in Peekskill, due to a mud slide; closed northbound at Roa Hook Road Route 9A: closed from Route 119 to Route 100C in Greenburgh Route 22: closed in North Castle between Route 120 and Orchard Street Route 100/133: closed at Camp Fire Road in New Castle Route 120: closed at Douglas Road in New Castle; closed at Route 120 at Douglass Kipp Street in Chappaqua Route 141: closed at Memorial Drive in Hawthorne Route 119: closed eastbound at Taxter Road in Elmsford Mamaroneck village: Fenimore Road closed, First Street, parts of Maple Avenue and Mamaroneck Avenue near the village train station are also closed. ROCKLAND Interstate 87: southbound closed between Exit 12 and the Palisades Interstate Parkway Route 303: closed both directions at Oak Tree Road in Tappan Route 59: closed both directions at Route 303
  13. I just don't get it, how in the world this can happen. If someone went down and stopped breathing the floor above the ER would they still call the amulance? This person , yesterday, was having a "SEVERE REACTION" to medication and the employees, Doctors and nurses WAITED for the ambulance.....What ever happened to common sense,... If that person died right there because they waited for the ambulance who's going to be held accountable? The same insurance company that tells them they have to call 911!!! Just INSANE!!!
  14. if it's something worth bringing up, Yes! If not than no. If I bring something up like yesterday and I want to give Kudos to a few departments then I can. If there was is something specific that happened on one of those calls and someone knows that there is an issue and it should be brought up in another post. There is absolutely no reason why you should take the POSITIVE POST and make a negative. What was done in the last thread you took what i said and put a damper on it instead of starting another post and saying that" something happened and if was to happen to you what would you do." We all learn from our mistakes and yes that is what this site is all about.
  15. So what are you trying to say? That when there is a praise on here you and a band of followers are going to question the praise and pick apart why they are being priased!! Of course there are issues on almost every call and hopefully they are handled with in the department. But why start bickering over who is getting prairsed and who is getting praised that doesn't deserve to be.
  16. Your enroute to a structure fire ( FIRST DUE)and you pull up on a MVA w/ pin...... My personal opinion quick size up notify dispatch/IC and if life in danger stop and start stabilzing vehicle and/or vehicles and start triage..... If no life in danger advise victims help on the way and continue on your way to original call. Maybe leave someone with a radio and flares if there is a traffic issue or any other hazzards that can make the situation worse. We dont want to leave the victims as sitting ducks either... Great topic!!
  17. GREAT JOB JEFF!!! From your brother in Lake Carmel
  18. I thought that person was convicted probation maybe. I remember he was a member of Carmel FD.
  19. Here is a perfect example of the monday morning quarterbacks . Do you honestly think that the SIX PGFD members (Chief, LIeutenant and Firefighters) would put themselves in harms way for a cat? The Chief cleary says " If we were not 100 % positive about avoiding injuries WE WOULD NOT ATTEMPT the rescue." Don't you think that the reporter made a great story by indulging and making it more dramatic then it really might have been? One thing i have feared is if we got called for this type of incedent and turned it away that te pet owner would attempt the rescue and get injuried themselves. We had a call one time a few years back with a big old parrot in a tree and we said nope not going and twenty minutes later we had a male 60ft in a tree and stuck. Could not move.... We called a neighboring dept with a ladder truck and safely removed him and the bird....
  20. LOL. To bad the TOPS building only holds one hundred fifty people....
  21. Just curious. Isn't it a problem when they go to a parade out of town? You only take one rig and 30 to 40 members and your "out of service"...
  22. I am looking for some information. The department I belong to is looking to take in members at 17yrs old. I know there are alot of departments that do already and I am looking for the Pro's and Con's. Is there any special rules that they have to follow? Like thier own bylaws or a section of bylaws that pertain to memebrs under 18 yrs old. and if so can I have a copy?
  23. I was wondering if there was a CHild Labor Law involved. I do know that 17yr olds can take FF1 but we still wouldnt want them to be interior until atleast 18.
  24. Thank you for your insight... We figure that they wouldnt be interior and they can't respond after 10pm. I wouldnt give them a blue light until 18 either. The insurance thing worries me. If its to much then it migt not be worth it. If any one has any other information let me know.. Thanks for your time..
  25. GO FIGURE!!! iNSTEAD OF DELETEING BECAUSE IT OFFENDED SOMEONE YOU DEFEND IT.... GREAT JOB!!!WHAT A JOKE!!!
