Keep Kevin in your thoughts and prayers he has a long road a head of him.... from www.lohud.com Kent police officer loses part of leg in motorcycle crash Chris Serico The Journal News KENT - A 23-year-old town police officer had part of his left leg amputated after his motorcycle collided with a sport utility vehicle yesterday afternoon, police said. Kevin Radovich was off-duty when he rode his 2008 Suzuki east around a curve and over the center line of Farmer Mills Road, where he collided head-on with a 2002 Ford Explorer about 12:40 p.m., police said. Responding to a 911 call, emergency responders from Kent and Lake Carmel treated Radovich at the scene before a STAT Flight helicopter transported him to Westchester Medical Center. "He did lose the lower part of his left leg," police Lt. Alex Divernieri said last night. Neither the driver of the Explorer, 46-year-old Gary Martin of Stormville, N.Y., nor his 9-year-old son of the same name was injured, police said. No charges were expected to be filed. Police were investigating the cause of the crash. "Alcohol definitely was not a factor," Divernieri said. Divernieri last night spoke highly of Radovich, who joined the force a year ago. "He is the most outstanding young man that I know that we've hired," Divernieri said. "Being a police officer was something that he wanted to do since he was a kid." As a teen, Radovich was a part of the Kent Police Department's cadet program, Divernieri said. Within a week of graduating from John Jay College of Criminal Justice with a bachelor's degree in forensic psychology, he was hired by the department, Divernieri said. Radovich's father, David Radovich, owns a musical instrument store, Radovich and Dean, in Carmel. On the store's Web site, it says the son, "an accomplished clarinetist," pitches in to help the business. Efforts to reach the family last night were unsuccessful. "He's got a good family, and he's an all-out good young man," Divernieri said. Divernieri said that with 21 years of experience working for the Kent Police Department, he probably could not recall a Kent officer injured so seriously. The lieutenant said he hoped that Radovich might be able to rejoin the force someday. "I don't know the total extent of his injuries, but I am hoping to have him return," he said.

Quick Update.... Cops, community reach out to Kent officer who lost part of leg in crash Terence Corcoran The Journal News KENT - Kent police have fielded more than a dozen calls today from police departments throughout Putnam and Westchester counties inquiring about Officer Kevin Radovich, who lost part of his left leg yesterday in a motorcycle accident. "Everyone wants to know how he's doing and if there's anything they can do to help." Lt. Alex DiVernieri said. DiVernieri and Chief Donald L. Smith are planning to head to the Westchester Medical Center at 11 a.m. today to visit with Radovich, 23. Radovich joined the Kent Police Department one year ago this month, fulfilling a lifelong dream to be a Kent police officer. DiVernieri said it's too early to say if Radovich will be able to return to the job but said Kent police would do everything they could to make it possible. "Everyone who knows him knows that he is a most determined young man who can do anything he puts his mind to. He's going to get a lot of support from his fellow police officers and the community at large," DiVernieri said. Town Supervisor Kathleen Doherty met with DiVernieri earlier today for an update and to offer the town's assistance. Doherty's family has known the Radovich family for years. Radovich's father, David, is known for the popular music store he's run on Route 52 in Carmel for years. David Radovich and his wife, Cindy, were at the hospital this morning and their daughter is flying in from Florida. DiVernieri said that Radovich is the type of son any parent would want - polite, respectful and hard-working. "As he was being placed in the ambulance, he was apologizing to his sergeant (Jerry Ranieri)," he said. "The nurses at the medical center were commenting on how polite he was. Never once did he complain about the pain." Radovich was driving on Farmer Mills Road around 12:40 p.m. yesterday when his motorcycle crossed the centerline and collided with an SUV. "Looking at the scene, if he were a couple of inches more to the left, the injuries would be much more severe," DiVernieri said.

Lets recap... I am glad they were let off but I believe there was an issue (not criminal) that 50 rounds were shot off. JUST MY OPINION. It can be a training issue , adrenaline issue, caught up in the moment or whatever it seems a lot from a non police officer stand. If that is laying judgment then yes I am doing what I am preaching not to do and I apologize. so Help me here, educate me if you will: Did they know that officers were in the mini van? I understand the percentages and but still not following your logic. One officer fired 31 times, one shot 11 and one of them fired 4 times was the threat not equally felt? When you say that detectives shot but not charged I am to assume that they were the 7 remaining shot that were fired between them, also threat not equally felt? Nobody sees a problem with one officer shooting 87% more than one officer and 64% more than another in the same amount of time that was stated here (46sec)? For you to insulate me and my profession you can go take a hike Takleberry and I am glad I don't dispatch for you. If you have a problem with my opinion PM me. Also understand I respect all officers (if you know me you there isn't even a question).

I am going to get ridiculed by this but I have to say this.. we have to remember not one of us were there so who are we to judge the situation. Not one of you have a right to lay judgment on anyone that was at that scene because all we have to go by is newspaper reports and how reliable is that? Fact: The perp was shot at 50 times and had no gun.... Problem??? YES??? no way a racist issue now come on... 50 times, reloaded and shot more.. I mean really if the person had a gun to someones head holding them hostage maybe. There are other ways to handle and the police officers on this site can correct me if I am wrong. If you take offense to this sorry but it is my opinion....

Remember a few years back, maybe ten years Large forest fire in Canada and the smoke reached all the way to Westchester.. Ulster has their hands full with this one, Good luck...

I think it is a issue.. case in point yesterdays PIAA (fatality) Putnam Dispatches and handles most of the call and then on the middle they find out from 60 control that stat was enroute. Not westchesters fault at all and the call was in westchester so they should have had it but Putnam handling and they(putnam) had know idea that stat was requested.. Big deal? Maybe maybe not... the helicopter was landing in westchester the call was in westchester.. Ambulances and medics from westchester going to the scene Putnam has know idea no contact at all... Problem, yes... The way the agreement was Westchester handles Westchester , Putnam handles Putnam... Remember don't hate the players, Hate the game...

The more sites you have linked to the server+ the more people you have looking at it+ the bigger it has to be =the more money it cost to run... "We don't need the forums cluttered with wining and crying about ads." then close the thread and nobody has to chime in...
-
I do not and will not start a battle here so please don't take my line of questioning out of context.... Jack10562 are you saying that the cost now was the same as 5 years ago when the site started? I thought the owner had to upgrade the server to handle everything which in turn cost more money... Please do not bring his personal life into this because this has nothing to do with it...
-
Yes Doc22 You are 100% right but that is in no means a reason to not handle it in a professional manner and let things like this happen.. MoFire We are all "brothers/sisters" and on this site for the same reason, information... And yes the owner of the site needs help to keep it running. But don't keep expanding and the cost won't rise...

You are like a pack of wolfs... relax the original poster of the thread was stating his displeasure.. NOT A BIG deal , You cant make everyone happy but it is no reason to "attack" like a hungry school of shark.. This is a pleasant site and should be treated that way. If the site is a business then the Moderator's should lead by example and handle the individual respectfully. You all let this escalate into something that makes a lot of people uncomfortable and it turns into an attack. If the MEMBER is upset with something on the site he belongs to then address the member and not start a re vault or an attack like we just witnessed. I for one have donated in the past, not recently, but I do feel uncomfortable that I should donate to keep up the sites from all the other branches that were added. Why should I donate to the up keep for those if I only use the original site. Looking from the outside in it seems that the only reason the site is SO big is because of the additional sites. All we hear about is how much money the site cost to run, server issues, bandwidth issues, etc... So why not downsize? Regroup? Catch up? or Charge per year membership and maybe the adds can be downsized.. Just my thoughts....

We have a Stryker in our rig and Love it here. We have had it for over a year with no complaints (that I hear). No weight issue, bringing it in a house is not an issue because of how it will (shrink) fold when you need it to. It is by all means not a one person job but hell NO MORE LIFTING from the ground position. Our district has over 500 runs a year and mostly raised ranch with a lot of old bungalows on a very hilly terrain.. We also have the stair chair, AWESOME AWESOME...

X635... are those helmets just sitting on the track or are they secured? It seems they are unsecured and if so they can still be hazard if they were involved in an accident. just curious

Oneeyedmic, you are right on the money. It seems that sometimes it gets used as a "Chatroom" and one or two words get posted like what happened in this thread. If everyone did that the elite group would have to be at 5,000 posts. I still don't understand why there has to be ANOTHER level of status, we have alpha, verified and moderators. People are going to post if they are going to post no matter what level they are on. A poll would have been a good idea..... Just my rambling thoughts

Thank you DOC22!!

LOL... WOW some heated discussion going on here.. As a captain going on my 4th year all I can say is I THRIVE on the chiefs not being around. I thrive on the extra experience that I get from the calls I handle and appreciate the past chief that stands by my side (or on the radio) and passes on his knowledge. We are pretty good when it comes to mutual aid, its usually the "Duty Chief" that handles the call and the others stay back (most of the time). With that being said, what is the difference if they(the chiefs) are all at work or all on mutual aid in the next town over? Also, on big incidents, if your town goes mutual aid to the next town doesn't that fire house get back filled (which is usually a rig and a chief)? Of course not on your everyday room and content fire but we are talking about the church fire. Just my (rambling) thoughts...
