  1. Wait, Wait one minute!!!! Lets talk about the real important thing here. X635, did you bring back any Walter's dogsfor us? I could go for one right now....YYuummmm!
  2. Chicken! Afraid of a little rain? All you need is your basic survival gear an umbrella, goulashes and Coors Light!
  3. And I am going camping this weekend in Newburgh. Should I bring my oars?
  4. I would quote myself in the earlier thread because it seems everybody missed it. Its just a word, a phrase that give some sort of comfort that the Medic and any other arriving units know that We need help. Again, not that we think you are stopping to get gas and a donut or that you can sprout wings and fly, its Just a word to let some know and thats all. What is the difference "gunshot to the head, step it up" and just plain "forthwith", same message just longer. We had a patient found passed out on the floor by his wife. I was the first one there only because i live around the corner(not an EMT). Unresponsive, and barely breathing unknown how long like this. HIS lips were purple, face greyish color. Another member with a medical bag is on location, we were trying desperatly to gain airway to no avail. Mean while tones keep going off for an EMT so our ambulance could respond. I get on the radio and Ask dispatch for everybody to forthwith to the location patient unresponsive. Now what is the big deal. I needed help and I gave an urgent word. I AM SORRY FOR USEING THE WORD DILLY DALLY, ITS NOT WHAT I MENT BY THAT.
  5. Its just a word to tell you its a more serious than usaul. I have used the word/s instead of trying give a patient update. Its just telling ALS and the Ambulance that don't dilly dally just get here and be prepared. I also give a patient update if I can get a sec. I am sure when the word/s is said we don't expect for you to hit that red button in your truck that makes a turbo boast come out or the nitrous to activate. We expect you to act professional and just get there cause the sh%t hit the fan. Don't get me wrong I am sure the word does get abused but for the most part its a short way of telling you we need help.
  6. As of 1304 ONE MORE TO GO!!!!!
  7. mfvfd, Can we borrow it for fourth of July? hahaha!" I" , I mean the department needs to patrol the lake for the fireworks show.
  8. Are you trying to say we have been lucky for the last hundred years? My opinion is most are professional and out of the thousand that show up to march in parades only a few stay late for trophies. Don't get me wrong, there are a few incidents but for the most part for the 20 parades or so in our area and the thousands of marchers AND THOUSANDS OF SPECTATORS THAT SUPPORT US EVERY YEAR, YEAR IN YEAR OUT, SAYS IT ALL. I am proud of all we do as Fire and EMS personal on the fire ground and in the parades. To all that support parades and work there tails off and train there hearts out to earn the right to march down the road proudly, GOOD JOB!!!
  9. Thats where pride and tradition come in. Fitz hit right on the head. How many of us actually knew this? Mstrang, is putting the rig in parade "mode" putting the members life in jepordy? Is it unsafe in any manor that the members can't perform there duties? I know I haven't heard of anyone getting hurt or dieing due to truck being ready for the parades. I am proud to say that the department I belong to trains profusely and goes to parades to give back to its members. We do it professionally and love every minute of it.
  10. Wow, I am in shock. What are you trying to say here? We talk about pride, we talk about not getting thanks from the genaral public and that pride is our paycheck. The members of each department spend weeks if not months specing out these trucks and then spend countless hours if not weeks cleaning it. When they march down that road with the Big Shiny fire truck it makes it all worth it. While I will agree with you about one thing there is no reason for the rigs to out of service for 3 days, but this is why we have mutual aid contracts. If a department is going have a rig out of service for a duration of time (not including OLD BETSY)the Chiefs should make the neccessary arraingments and call for automatic mutual aid from another department and put them on stand by or right to the scene. Why do we march in parades? Not take away from the taxpayers but to show off to them on what we can do. Just my opinion.
  11. Lake Carmel Is going with 1 rig this year. It usually 2, our 2 tanker 44 and 41. We never had anyone on standby before while we were at the parades.
  12. Lake Carmel will be going to: Brewster Mahopac Carmel Patterson Katonah Peekskill Mamaroneck Nope, I don't think I missed one.
  13. I had the pleasure of getting a tour on sunday 3/13 after a radio procedure class at the TOPS Building. It was good to see Sandy and a few other dispatchers at work. While we were their, there happen to be a 911 call for a garbage can fire. The call was answered swiftly and professionally under alot of pressure. There had to be twenty or so people watching and listening in the room. I give them alot of credit and wish them alot of luck. That was my first encounter with the CAD system and Wheww!!! Better them then me. Again Good Luck!!
  14. Now you see, someone aggravated EMTBravo!! Sorry Mr. Bravo! Can't we all just get along?
  15. Hey Grumpyff, I used to work for a floor covering store in Peekskill and I always went into Putnam Valley. It is bueatiful back there in them hills. Like someone had stated earlier in this thread, if you look near a lake you are going to look at summer cottages mostly. I do know in some spots in Putnam Valley you could drive for ten minutes before you see civilization which in my opinion is a good thing sometimes. I have lived in places like Manhatten, Bronx, Mamaroneck, Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Mohegan, Peekskill to name a few. I have had the pleasure of living in this wonderful town of Kent. It is bueatiful here you have your Lake communitiy(lake Carmel) and then you have the hills of Kent. The school system is rated one of the top in New York but the problem is that the taxes are one of the highest in New York and that is chasing everybody out to right into Dutchess County. I plan on staying here for a while high taxes and all. It took me a while to find a place I would really like and the kids, my wife and myself really love it here. Grumpyff good luck in your trek for new home.
  16. Incredible! This thread went from drinking in a bar with his uniform to bars in firehouses. There is another thread for that. The guy went into a bar and got drunk. It happens, SO WHAT!! Somebody posted a more important issue , how did he or they get home?, Was there someone driving him/them?, Did someone call them a cab? Did they drive there themselves? Who cares if they are wearing a uniform it sounds like it was all fire and ems personel at the bar so what would it matter if they are wearing a uniform or not? It happens and the only way to stop is to bring back prohibition and that will never happen.
  17. Just another reason to centralize fire and ems dispatch. One day someone is going to get hurt or not get help in time because of poor commuinications. Then they will change the way things are run.
  18. You need Special Delivery , I have the perfect delivery person!!!!
  19. You tell them Sandy, You guys are doing a great job and are going to get better as time goes on. The fires were put out, the ambulance calls were answered and nobody got hurt, thats what matters. If a I am not mistaking a dispatcher or two were credited for saving someones life last week. A person was choking and the dispatcher gave instructions and saved a life. Enough said!! Good Luck to Ed, Sandy and everbody. 17-9-6 to PUTNAM 911 were back in service!!
  20. Steve don't get me wrong. But when you read things like the quote below it upsets me. We recycle our Chiefs trucks also and have one lightbar, strobe pack and flashers. No big deal plain simple and straight to the point. Our last two chief trucks (tahoe) has the same the only a arrow bar was added which the chief decided thats all we need to fit our needs. I am sure it was well thought out to meet your fire departments needs and I didn't want to offend you or your department. You hit right on the head when you said it's not a compitetion.
  21. A waste of money. Money that could be used in more important areas like training, better equipment, etc.... The more lights you have the more dangerous it is. Its a distraction for other drivers, they get the picture with a single light bar and strobe package.
  22. Great site!!! ATV Poker Run sounds awesome.
  23. I am not saying what they were doing was a good thing. It's just that it could have been handled a little differently. The Chief has the reputation of the Sacramento Fd sitting on his shoulders and to let something like this to get out is insane. They had group sex in the Fire house and in house disipline is what is called for. If its a warning or suspention then handle it don't air the dirty laundry. Its not like some was gang raped after they got stoned with the money they stole from the pimp daddy on the corner. ny10570 said "you can't get away with at any other job." Its been happening for as long as there has been jobs. It just doesn't come out in publics eye. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean its not there. Unfortunately we are in public eye and there are things that should or could be dealt with in house to protect the image that most of us work for. They didn't hurt anybody, nor did they effect there job(as far as the report says). If they sat there and watched them for months in an investigation it was a waste of manpower, time and money, city money that is.
