Frank- My deepest sympathy to you and your family.

A little shameless self-promotion...Patch.com article: http://patch.com/A-rQQn

Actually looks like a Mojave Rattlesnake- far more toxic venom. Seth do you have any creosote brush shrubs near your home? These snakes are particularly attracted to it and are often found in close proximity to them.

Watch it closely just before it comes down. The guy standing with the red helmet dives in and pushes the nozzle man forward preventing him from being crushed. That guy deserves a commendation at the least! Head on a swivel...Excellent job by him.

The new Rescue 26 was at the firehouse for a few hours last week. It is being fitted for tools and we should be taking delivery later this week.

Quoting the news report..."The body was found inside a bag". Don't want to jump to any conclusions, but... The part that really kills me as the father of a 4 year-old myself is: The mother stands by the suspect saying "she doesn't believe he would hurt the boy". The boy was under his supervision when according to the suspect "he wandered off". Yeah sweatheart. Standby your man.

The new rig is almost the exact same length as the one it is replacing. The front and rear bumpers were shortened to fit it in the bay. It looks short due to the addition of an actual crew compartment which seats four firefighters behind the driver and officer. This is one of the main advantages of this vehicle as three of our four current rigs (R-26, E-161 and U-12) can only seat four or fewer personel each. The walk-thru area of the current rig was basically a waste of space. The new box will have a pull-out tray in the rear compartment and a transverse slider at the front end of the box. Everything on the current truck will fit on the new rig.

Try atop of Croton Gorge Dam. THAT's dark!

BTW- just for the recored, there was a public meeting to discuss the purchase of this truck and how it would be financed at the fire house last month. It was posted on the community channel and in the paper. Nobody showed up.

Actually- I quoted your entire comment, and made no attempt to "make it look like" you were against anything. My point, which was perhaps, better explained by ec255 is that as a department, we have not come before the taxpayers of the village to request new/additional funds for a new truck. Monies for fire protection including vehicle replacement are in the contract already. Money which is carefully saved and put aside each year for just such a purchase. You as a taxpayer have not seen a single penny increase in your taxes to pay for this vehicle. We are a small department with VERY limited funds. I invite you to campare exactly how much of your taxes are paid for fire protection with the departments you mention. What does it matter if they have Rescue apparatus? That apparatus is for their fire districts. If you're trying to make a case for consolidation, please- lets not open up THAT can of worms in this thread. It's off point. Part of an agreement to supply fire protection includes having the equipment to provide it. The rescue truck "still in service" is 35 years old and responds to EVERY call in the village. It has grown old, needy, and no longer adequately serves it's purpose. Hope that clears up your issues.

The Cat's finally out of the bag!
-
Why do you think that YOU are paying for the new truck? The fire department has nothing to do with the contracts of village workers either. Buchanan Engine Company #1, Inc. is an independant fire company, not a fire district. It has an annual contract with the village to provide fire protection. The department buys and owns the apparatus, and owns the property and building which we operate from. The new truck is being paid for by Buchanan Engine Company, not the Village of Buchanan or it's residents.

They're back up for sale ATT. You have about four hours to get one from the time of this post.

Newsweek or Newsday? 400 Heavy Rescues between 180 departments...Really?
-
Basically, you looked for it, watched it and then decided all by yourself that nobody else should. When you get a chance, let me know what I shouldn't be allowed to see tomorrow.

Ok That's it! Can't you guys in Northern Westchester get a crew together to eat your own shrimp? I mean this is a "simple dinner" and you have to call for mutual aid? Geez- You guys spend all that money on big shiny kitchens with all the latest pots and pans, and then you can't assemble enough guys within your own department to eat one meal by yourselves? I say it's time for consolidation of all meals eaten and promoted to the masses. Take shrimp night, the Buchanan clambake and the Verplanck feast and hold it all on one night in one place so as not to duplicate services within such a small region. It seams like every year you guys have to call in mutual aid just to finish YOUR meal! The commissioners must be turning a blind eye to this. If you had a just one full shift of career shrimp-eaters in place when the dinner bell rang, I can guarantee that every last shrimp would be eaten. Don't forget the two-in two-out rule as there is only room for two at a time in the bathroom.
