  1. Just looked at the progress, and both are looking good. 2371, what is the new expected delivery date, since things were delayed by Katrina. It appears that E-91 has reflective stripping on the rear, or are the shots mixed with R47. Either way both pieces look like they should a great addition to Pleasantville's fleet. PS has the secretary calmed down?
  2. Congratulations!! Mike and Carmela All the best . It was great seeing you . Love, Kurt , Chris, Ryan and Hayley
  3. I was working for Pleasantville Union Free Schools as a custodian at the time. I spent almost 56 hours straight at work, including a 10 hour stretch plowing in a F-350 with a manual tranny. I also remember my boss telling me that one of my brother firefighters, Tom Dorr, was missing in the storm. That and the heart break when he was found murdered.
  4. my only dislike is that the seats are narrow, and the person next to you is right on top of you. On LIRR the seats are opposite od Metro Norths, and lots of people rip their pants pockets off
  5. The only reels in Pleasantville are the booster line on R 47, and E 90. Unless you mean the antique hoose reel at Hays Hose, seen through this link :Hose reel
  6. Santa got an escort in Pleasantville from Rescue 47, here it is: anyone else do any escorts this December?
  7. Congrats to all, especially my brother, whom should do well in Scarsdale. Sorry I couldn't make the graduation ceremony this morning, the weather up here was terrible. Good luck to all.
  8. Congrats, just remember to keep working hard.. and those last 4 weeks will go by quickly.
  9. Unfortunately, I think there is going to be a some negative critiscisms, most about the amount of taxes. Some people I know out there have the perception, that their FD spends too much on new trucks, firehouses, and partying. I found these two topics on another board,Coram Firehouse, and Vol firemen. Granted it is a NYPDrant, a page where a lot of ranting goes on.
  10. From the Ferrara website, it looks like it is coming along nicely. See it here: Ferrara Fire Apparatus You can also Pleasantville's Engine 91 and Rescue 47 under construction.
  11. Good thing that police officer was alert to the conditions as he responded to the scene.
  12. I have experienced this first hand, and unfortunately, do not see any solution to this. I put in almost 16.5 years in Pleasantville and saw a change in the amount of people who availible. When I first joined in December 1988 (wow do I feel old) apparatus was routinely out the door before the horn stopped blowing, for almost every alarm. Sure, daytime might have been a little thin, but it was enough to properly man the apparatus. Nighttime alarms would see apparatus overflowing with members. A car fire in the middle of the night could see 20 to 30 members easily. Individual companies manned their own apparatus, and riding out with other companies was rare(i.e Engine Co. members staffed E259/E91, Patrol members on R47, Ladder members on TL5). By the late 1990's/ early 2000's saw the thinning of membership require that crews be put together regardless of company, and a formation of SOGs as to the order of apparatus response(such as E259 first out of HQ for any alarm involving a structure). Response times slightly increased as you had to wait for enough members to arrive to staff the apparatus. Personallly, I thought the idea was long overdue, it forced companies to train together, and work as one department, better. Sure company rivalaries exist, always will, as a matter of pride(my company is better than yours, "my Rescue has more toys", etc.). An alarm of a possible structure in the middle of the night may draw 20 -30 members, but they have been better trained to work as one department, and are more competent firefighters having gotten cross training in engine company ops, ladder ops, not just the company they belong to. Volunteer Departments will always exist in this country, however I think that in this area of the country you will see more combination paid/volunteer departments. As some of you know I recently moved to Putnam County, to a house I recently bought, after renting appartments for the last 10 years. I have really considered joining Patterson FD once I get settled in. Unfortunately I have been sick lately, and that has really been a drain on my time. I can see how some people who want to join, and might have joined 10 to 15 years ago, no longer have the time. For myself my commute is now an extra 45 minutes( from when I was in Pleasantville) each, for a total of about an hour and a half. Add in extra time at work to cover some bills, I could see how these 'prospective' members could be dettered from joining, or not be availible for alarms for half or more of the day. Almost 14 hours of my day is spent commuting to work, work, and coming home. When get home I sleep like a rock. Imagine trying to find time to join a department, take the required training(which I already have ), add in training with the department that is required, alarms, and other details. I could see how some people could be discouraged. I know from experience in Pleasantville, more people were moving in from New York City, and were unaware the FD was volunteer, figuring that their high taxes paid for the fire department, as well as police, EMS,sanitation, etc. I wish I had some ideas as to a solution to this problem, unfornately I have none
  13. May God help you and your loved ones with your grief, and give you comfort in knowing he is still with you all in spirit and forever in your hearts . Kurt and Christina Rest In Peace Jimmyboy
  14. Here is a top secret picture of it, please keep it hush hush just Kidding, if anyone has some photos, please post.
  15. Thanks for the info, hopefully I can stop over today or tommorrow, I have a ton of clothes my kids have outgrown. That and a little shopping for some of the other supplies listed above.
  16. fitzjr11, is there a collection area to drop supplies off, in order to fill the trailer. I would drop off some supplies, to insure it makes it there sooner than later
  17. I agree, even if you can only donate something small like t shirts, or some blankets, do it, it will be greatly appreciated. From a personal stanpoint, after 9/11 it meant a lot to return to my stationhouse, and to be able to change into a dry T-shirt (bullet resistant vest hold in moisture) and get some clean socks. That and a warm meal from the Red Cross during a 15 hour tour kept you going. I can only imagine the despair of our brother firefighters and police officers down there, many of whom have lost everything, and in some cases loved ones. Think about it, they no longer have a home to go home to, and are still trying to help others. Lets do what ever we can to help them out.
  18. This could be good or bad.. for example if you an NYPD officer on the radio with"show me with one under", it means they have an arrest. The same thing in the Transit means a train has run someone over. I say keep the 10 codes for everyday normal use, and like CIMS/NIMS states use plain english during periods of interagency operations.
  19. Congratulations to Pete Hagen of Indepedent Fire Co. in Mt Kisco, and Laurie Schelling of MKVAC on their wedding, on Saturday, July 30, 2005. Engine 105 and a MKVAC ambulance were present at the church.
  20. D.P. Hayes Hose in Pleasantville still has a beautiful old brass pole, but it is no longer in use. The doors around it are closed and locked. No longer used due to liability , and the water fountain that was installed just a little too close during the renovations about 16 years ago.
  21. Yes, it happened in Pleasantville, a member left his car in the rear of HQ(an older Honda, with only one license plate (registered in another state)), while in Florida. Unfortunately, the training cars were parked next to his. Fortunately the only damage done was a broken side window, and I think a tail light. We were able to salvage a tail light from another car to be used as training, and the Chief paid for the window
  22. i couldn't agree more. The Harder we beat on R 47 ( a 1980 Hahn) the better it runs
  23. I like it, it seems very easy to use.
  24. Gotta love the sound of a Hahn! R47 for its age, is a great handling piece of apparatus =D> . Yahoo used to have a group dedicated to Hahn Fire apparatus, but I have not visited it in a while.
  25. Hi everyone, I am looking to buy a house within the next 6 months to a year in Putnam county. The areas that I have been looking at have been Brewster, Carmel, Mahopac, Kent and Patterson. Does anyone out there know these areas, and are there any parts that should be avoided, such as have bad wells ,problems with septic tanks, etc. Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated. And yes, I would most likly join the FD where I move to.
