I'm not sure that ground ladders would reach the roof of this building, from this side. If you look at the right side of the photo, there is an extension ladder placed to the balcony. The ground appears to drop away from the building, meaning a longer ladder would be needed to reach the roof. Even with appropriate manpower, how many 35 foot ladders does the ladder truck carry? One? At least the aerial is placed over the cab of the truck making it fairly stable. Viewing the other photos in the article, I would tend to say this was a bit too aggressive for my taste...the building was already laddered appropriately, with numerous ground ladders, and another aerial set up on the other side of the building from the parking lot.

With a good group of guys, it is not that hard to pack up, an dit goes by pretty quick. I know one of the members in Pound Ridge had designed, and built a small machine that would roll the 5" hose. That allowed everything to be packed back at the firehouse.

Very sharp looking rig!! I like the orange/blue striping, and the lettering really stands out. Never thought I'd see the day when PVAC expanded to 3 rigs, that and a new building!!! Things are really looking up, down there.

I know its not much in the way of stability, look at the American Lafrance ladders of the 40's and 50's. Hand operated screw down jacks, that in most cases put the stabilizer maybe 2 to 3 feet off the side of the truck. The majority of the wight was carried on the suspension of the truck.
-
I'm guessing 7602, the 1996 Braun is the one being replaced? Seems like just yesterday PVAC was taking delivery on that one. Best of luck with the 2007 Lifeline. Can't wait to see some photos.

Look very closely under the middle of the truck. There are two small tubes going straight down to the ground. They almost look like they could be the handle to a hand tool, but that is the stabilizer!! The one on the far side has some type of cribbing under it. The stabilizers appear to deploy straight down from inside the truck, either some type of control/locking device inside the small compartment above it. Maybe batt2 could confirm this!

Last I heard, 30 M1s are left, to be used for shuttle service to the new Yankee Stadium station. Now would be the time to start making inquiries as to getting one for training in a few years. I think LIRR donated an M1 to Nassau or Suffolk county(not sure which one). Metro North also provides training to departments, I think you just have to call. I know Pleasantville did it a couple of times. Once, one of their chiefs came to our firehouse for a presentation, and I remember going to the yard in North White Plains.
-
I think most of the old M1s have been already been sent for scrapping The high cost of steel took care of that, as Metro North scrapped almost everything that was sitting dead for years in Croton. Most likely a contact to Metro North, and maybe pay for the transportation costs..

I blame Comissioner Scoppetta, who is more interested in response times, than FF safety. Remember a year or so ago when he threatened to transfer officers if response times did not decrease, after the union told its members to respond safely, i.e. stop/slow down at traffic lights/ stop signs, intersections, etc.

Since x635 is laid up for the time being, maybe everyone here can post a photo or two. It can be of anything: fire, EMS, PD, trains that Seth would normally post in his photo hunts. Here is a photo I took last month at a live burn in Sherman, CT of one of the instructors after venting a window during the final burn

Another shot from the live burn in Sherman, CT. Taken January 2007, during the final burn:

Here is a link to Pierce's website, for an article about the failure of Ladder 15: http://piercemfg.com/company/newsstory.cfm?ID=176 they are reporting prior damage to the medium duty ladder.

Found this photo on the dealer, New England Fire Equipment & Apparatus, website. Not the best photo, but it shows two of the ladders from a distance, here is the link :http://www.nefea.com/deliveries2.asp?page=deliveries&did=101 Looks like Ladder 72 and 73.

How much water does Tanker 57 carry? Any amount will defeinatley be a big help in the areas 2371 mentioned.

Not sure about Plans for Putnam's sytem, but yesterday I think the tower on Ninham Mt failed. Dispatching was also affected on the East side of the county as well...tones with garbled message, or tones too weak to activate pagers.

That is correct Partyrock. Locust and Skytop have hydrants, but very low pressure. Parts of Hardscabble (lower section near Pleasantville Road) has hydrants. Outer part has nothing. Before I left Pville, some of the pre-fire plans for Locust had R-47 as a relay pumper, utilizing 5" hose from E-259 (most likely now E-91), E-260, and Briarcliff. A Tanker would also help tremendously on Round Hill Road, near the Briarcliff border off Pleasantville Road, which requires a lay of hose out to Briarcliff HS with an engine pumping off the Hydrant (usually R47, again). Eng47ine, sorry, did not know your connection to Pleasantville Command staff.

I heard that rumor as well...it is just a rumor for now. I f anything does happen I'm sure Pville2371 will let us know.

I saw this product while Christmas shopping for my kids, and thought it was disgusting. I wrote an e-mail to Maisto, which was never answered, that basically said your company is promoting the crimes of criminal mischief and tresspass. They don't care as long as they make their money. Maybe I'll send a another e-mail, in light of the LIRR incident, to WalMart this time.

My car needs work...the stupid thing is leaking something( not quite sure if it is brake fluid or power steering fluid). It is a slow leak, but I want to take care of it before it becomes a big problem, as it is leaking near the catalytic conveter. Can anyone recommend a good mechanic in the Patterson, Carmel, Brewster area? Or anyone one to avoid? Thanks in advance.

It's all in the spec. I think Pleasantville's new Ferraras have locks on the compartments and the cab. I have also seen some Seagraves with it also.
-
I'm not saying everyone does this, this was something that I did with my drivers.

Even sanitation engineers are getting away from riding the backstep. Kids still love Santa, even if he is in an enclosed cab wearing a seatbelt! I have also used the Santa run as an excuse to perform a driver check-up, driver safe operation of the rig over the road, and familiarization of streets in the district. Could even be used to go over pre-fire plans as different parts of the district are covered.
