Great photos. I was in the bucket of Tl-5 when we first set up, and remember it being really cold, ended up freezing to the on-board air supply line. That and the different color smoke coming out the pharmarcy section of the CVS.

Date: 02/11/08 Time: approx 0230-0240 Location: 21 Allison Drive Frequency: Units Operating: Pawling, Dover (Engine), Beekman (tanker), Patterson (rescue to scene, engine to Pawling FD HQ) Description Of Incident: fire in a residence. Writer: grumpyff I am not exactly sure what units were present, and if anyone else has a better list feel free to add them in. I was on scene to fill air bottles with Patterson rescue, and trying to keep warm/defrost other Firefighters, in very cold conditions.

Try this link: ScanCt.com . Frequency 5 is NYPD SOD/ESU

Patterson recently purchased 4 suits, and began training today.

AFAIK, the hole punchers will remain in service, the only thing to change is the onboard ticket. No more tickets with several parts. I would imagine the tickets will be similar to the ones coming out the TVMs.
-
ESU is the first level called to any suspicious device. The bomb squad will respond devices, usually after it has been confirmed by ESU.

I talked to a conductor this morning on my train about the new on board ticket system. Yes the five dollar penalty for tickets purchased on the train will continue. The machines will debut between April and August, and the credit card feature will not be active at that time. He was unsure when the ability to use credit cards will be turned on. The feeling over retaining the penalty is that once the credit system goes active, people will be less likely to complain about the surcharge since it goes right to their credit card, and not 'out of their pocket'.

Even with the new M8s in a few years, there is no room in Penn Station for any more trains, all slots are full with LIRR, Amtrak, and NJ Transit.
-
I believe this track leads to the Hell's Gate Bridge, and give Amtrak access into Penn Station. Also use when Metro North has to send M7s out to Long Island for warranty service from Bombardier, which has a servic facility in Long Island City(near Hunterspoint).

Congrats TR54, Everytime I see a new post of yours under 'Protection from the Past' I can't wait to see the classic photos you provide for the EmtBravo Network to view.

Unfortunately, yes this thing does happen in career houses as well, but as you mention it is a lot easier to discpline in a career system. Personally, if I was a taxpayer in this district I would want something done. Definate suspensions and a change in policy... no more alcohol on apparatus. Could even take it one more step....NYPD bans all members from drinking in uniform,(on or off duty), and all bosses are required to take action if something is observed with a member (also applies to bosses being off duty).

Looks nice. These cars will also be wider than the M7s (width restriction comes from LIRR). Most likely went with red interior to to bright up the inside ( As M7s have the lighter blue seats)

VelcroMedic, My problem with Pirro was how quickly she gave up on the case. I know all about not being able to prosecute without an arrest, but her office did nothing to help. She did not even have the courtesy to give us lip service that something was being done to attempt to solve the case. I'm not talking years, but rather weeks/months that she gave up.

Rest in Peace Tom,. I was unable to attend the vigil this year . Tom was murdered during the Blizzard of 1996. He left his house Sunday night to head to the firehouse for the storm standby. Apparently he stopped to feed a flock of wild turkeys that lived near his house, that he often left food for. Someone attacked him and cut his throat open. He was not discovered missing until Monday morning when his wife called the firehouse to talk to him. I was working for PLeasantville Schools at the time, and I will never forget hearing the pagers go off to have him call in, and in an attempt to find him as crews searched the ways he would walk to th HQ. That and the punch to the stomach (thats what it felt like) when my boss came and told me and one other employee who also volunteered that they had found Tom dead in the woods. At the time the two suspects were his wife, and step-son, but Westchester County PD never found the murder weapon to my knowledge, and ran out of evidence/leads. The case has not moved in years. Some of us got the feeling that the Westchester DA (Jeanine Pirro) at the time wasn'y really interested in pursuing the case.

The first week (or two) after being hired is done is business attire (Shirt, tie, jacket, shoes). The first week is spent at Brooklyn College ( I think, when I was hired 10 years ago it was Queens College) filling out paperwork, and learning what is expected of you. During the first week at the Academy you have to get a money order for around $500 to $600 for uniforms. At some point you take a field trip to 1 Police Plaza fior your recuit bag, belt & equipment, and then to Meyers Uniform in Brooklyn to get uniform pants, recruit shirts (grays), and jacket. I did hear that this class may not have to pay upfront for the uniforms, but instead it will be deducted from paychecks after they graduate. As far as notification of being hired, yes they give almost no notice. I found out on a Friday at 12:30 pm, that I was to report at 7am on Monday.

NYPD PO's get $1000 a year (in December). Sgts and Detectives get $980 a year IIRC. Thte uniform allowance is tacked on to a regular paycheck, so it is taxed. The only thing given to us is our vest (1 for 20 years), you shield (which you give back when you retire/promotion), your service weapon, and just recently the night sights for your weapon. The rest comes out of pocket/ uniform allowance, right down the pin that holds the shield to your shirt.

Thanks everyone!! I had a great B-day, and all is well here.

Electricity can travel through the ground (earth), and strike the gas main. Any small leak, or spark inside the gas main will cause ignition, and will rupture the pipe.

That would be Briga Lane. Iwent tonight, very disappointed, only 2 houses on the block, and one around the corner lit up. The rest of the houses have nothing.

A quick 'roadshot' of Danbury Tower 1 (or is it Truck 1) I got this summer. Hose beds should be accessible, however the need to carry more water is a necessity for some of us, especially in areas that rely on tanker operations. The only problems I have encountered with the higher beds is repacking the hose, which is not one one of my favorite things to do anyway.

First and formost it will be treated as a crime scene, and then as a HAZMAT situation. I know for the NYPD, we are instructed to not turn on or off any lights, burners, transmit radios. etc. Also VENT the room/ structure by opening windows. Do not enter, or if already inside leave immediately if there is an odor of bitter almonds. The NYPD also has a department chemist who is supposed to respond to the scene and assist ESU/HAZMAT operations.

Sounds like reckless endangerment, with possible assault charges to me, but the District Attorney's office would have to make the call. See what comes out of the investigation.

It looks like the listings were removed sometime during the day, I no longer see them on EBAY.
