  1. In the post about Pleasantville TL5 it was mentioned that PLeasantville was extremely dissatisfied with the service they received after taking delivery of E91 and R47, both 2006 Ferraras. At the time, I believe the only service dealer was out on Long Island. Looking at the Ferrara website, it list another dealer for the Westchester/Putnam area. Have any of the other departments with Ferrara had similar problems as Pleasantville did? Has service improved at all? Here is what is listed on the website: http://www.ferrarafire.com/company/contact...s/newyork.html# Garrison Fire & Rescue Corp. 4. Maybe Ossining could look at buying it, to replace their boat.
  5. NYPD has POPPA. Here is the link: http://www.poppainc.com/ Check out the 'about poppa' , started in 1996 after 26 suicides in two years.
  6. Not to get off topic, but yes in NYPD we have the 15 minute escape hood (totally useless), and the MSA Milinium mask respirators. Bosses are hestitant to use them, as there no one wants to take responsiblility. take the steam pipe explosion near Grand Central last year. I worked the midnight tour. we asked if we should bring our respirators , and were told no by our Boro command. We were given paper dust/painters masks. After 4 hours at the site the Office of Emergency Management started to notice no one from PD wearing respirators and pitched a b****. Only then were respirators given out to us.
  7. I was not there, but if is anything like NYC, if a boss tells you to stand in this intersection and block it, they do not want to hear complaints about smoke in the area.
  8. What are the specs of the unit? tank /pump size?
  9. I spent a good portion of today going around my response area to locate and test the dry hydrants we have. Some of the hydrants were full of mud/silt, and required us to backflush them utilizing our tank water, and a 5 inch hose into the hydrant. We created several nice geysers of mud and water. Some of the hydrants have not been used in years, we got most to work anyway. Some are in need of repair...seams need to be recaulked, or cracked PVC pipe needs to be replaced. Of the hydrants we got to flow water, we made sure we flowed the water for a minimum of twenty five minutes with the deluge gun sending the water back into the lake/pond it came from. My question is how often do other departments with dry hydrants test them? I know who is responsible to maintain them is depends the situation, some were installed by the department, others installled by home owners/condo associations.
  10. Its not just bus stops, hydrants and crosswalks. My old command parked on the same street as the NY Times, and were were told in writing that we (NYPD) were not allowed to park on their side of the street, or our cars would be towed regardless if the plaque was in the window or not. Then the DOT took away our parking when construction started on a new high rise condo/hotel. In the current bargaining for a contract the city has placed a demand that we pay for a privilige to park in NYC, I know they have made that demand before, so it is something they are looking at.
  11. The Journal News is reporting that peat moss used in a garden planter was the cause/origin of the fire. here is the link: LoHud.com
  12. B squad 98-37. The CRV often seems like a waste, but it does provide a show of force that can arrive at random times and places that may throw off planning or an attack. such as the planned bombing of the subway at 34 street/6 avenue. The terrorists had mentioned the area was "too hot" in reference to the number of police officers in the area.
  13. I HEAR YOU ON THAT!!! HIRED 08/31/98
  14. Yes this is the same street, it was mentioned at the scene that they had another fire just down the road about 2-3years ago. It was very hot in the attic, lots of insulation, both spread between the joists , and several large rolls of insulation that were not unrolled. Also the ceiling had a fiberboard tile over plywood design.
  15. Great photos!!! After drafting salt water just rinse the pump out with fresh water..
  16. Looking at the photos on Lohud.com Pleasantville and its mutual companies did a great job stopping the fire. I used to live in the complex, and they are a nightmare that Pleasantville is well aware of. Built in the late 1970s, they do not have any firewalls, and have a common attic that span the entire length of the structure. Cheap light weigth construction, most of the second floors of this development are/were not level so the contractors leveled the floors with a plaster like leveling agent, that over the years has begun to break down in a powder (that can absorb water and its weigth).
  17. Total BS... that wig is coming off no matter what, not for the photos, but for the offiicer's safety. It needs to be properly searched to ensure there is no contraband in there that can injure an officer, facilitate an escape, or is illegal to possess. Things such as bobby pins, hair clips, needles, crack pipes, razor blades could all be easily concealed in that wig. SAFETY FIRST, SEARCH YOUR PERP. AS for being touched by a male officer, too bad. Hopefully he was wearing latex gloves...therefore no contact was made, Just like EMS, you do not know what diseases your perps may have.
  18. I know from driving by Pleasantville HQ that afternoon, E-91,E-259, R-47, acting TL5 and U74 were out. In the photos I also see E-260, and Thornwood TL-1.. I also passed Briarcliff's TL-40 enroute to Pleasantville for standby. Anyone else have a full list?

  20. Correct, the nozzleman has no SCBA, but it does appear that he is more concerned with preventing the spread of the brush fire, than extinguishing the car. Good reminder to not approach/stand in front of or behind a car fire.
  21. Must be a training class on PPE, he has his mask on already.
  22. Too young, Rest in Peace Ralph
  23. Found this video through another website, it is a tribute to all service dogs. It has some photos taken from the funeral of Sgt. Darrell Burris, of the the Cold Spring Police Department, who passed on November 15, 2007. Here is the link:
