Today, I managed to make it up to Albany, NY with my wife, and stumbled into the NYS Museum. Quite a surprise to find a few fire apparatus from around the state. They also have a presentation on 9/11/01, which contains Engine 6, an FDNY EMS ambulance, as well as the usual piece of steel, and other artifacts from that horrible day. My wife made sure I was okay in going into this, I think I did alright, although near one of the displays I could swear I could smell the displays behind the glass containers. If you were down there in the months following the attacks, it is a smell you will never forget. Here is a link to their website: http://www.nysm.nysed.gov/ Anyway here are some of the photos we got...

Upstairs, and at the other end of the mall is the state memorials to deceased firefighters and EMS providers who passed in th eline of duty. Unfortunately, they are doing work near the EMS memorial, and it is fenced off.
-
Also on display was this FDNY EMS 1997 Ford/Horton ambulance that responded to the attacks. It carried one of the EMT-P s that perished that day, Carlos Lillo. The board there states this ambulance was used when his body was recovered, and ultimately remained inservice as shown until 2004. Also claims it is still fully stocked, only the defib was removed.

There is a large display on FDNY Eng 6. on the members that responded that day, to the chalk board with the riding positions of the day.
-
I did not get too much info while looking at the displays, but here is a 1947 American LaFrance from Green, Island and a 1926 American LaFrance water tower from the City of Albany.

Found this on another site. Lots of old photos from the50'/60's of car crashes, old police cars, etc upto the 1970s. Here is the link: http://www.monroecountysheriff.info/about/...tures_main.html

TYpical of Mayor Bloomburg, and the city. they want the $$$ their enforcement brings in, but when it comes time to pay , sorry 'we just don't have the money'. Typical douchebag comitting douchebaggery. I think its time the brothers and sisteers in the DEP take a hard look at this decision, and remember it the next time the have to take enforcement. Maybe call for another agency to handle it.

This photo does no justice to the brightness of the LEDs

Actually they are not that much bigger (length wise), and they do fit inside the ED bay at Roosevelt. Here is photo I got of two, one in the bay, and the extended cab of the other. I transported a prisoner once in one of these, lots of room in the interior. Also the suspension lowers the rear end when the back doors are opened.

I think we should abolish all the towns/villages/hamlet etc and go with consolidation into a county level. My mother lives in Pleasantville and told me she pays almost $15,000 a year in taxes. Thank god she no longer has a mortgage. What does she get in return? Municipal trash collection and road repair, a police department more interested in politics than police work, a volunteer fire dept and volunteer ambulance corps (with paid) medics, and the schools. Just look at the schools to see how much money is wasted. In Pleasantville, you can have a Pleasantville zipcode, and see the high school from your house, but since you are in the Mt PLeasant school ditrict, no you have to be bussed several miles away to Westlake HS. Busses, fuel, mechanics, drivers, insurance all required and paid for by the taxpayers because of a line drawn in the sand.

I just went to http://www.923krock.com and left them a message...leave the fffin format alone. looks like a lot of 95.1 out of Danbury, or 101.5 WPDH for me

Any word on the halted promotions. They should promoted as soon as possible, with back pay regardless if a new list was established after this. Hopefully the union will be forcefully involved in this one. Smells like bovine excrement to me , typical of the stuff that goes on in Mt Vernon. Here are some photos I got of the scene. This is what we encountered as we approached the scene from the east. At first, it did not look like a lot.

When I joined PLeasantville VAC both buses (typeIII) were gas. Then we got the current 76B2 (7602) which is diesel. The gas powered buses had better acceration, but also were always hot. We had vents on top of the hood to help keep them cool, and IIRC there were a couple of times in the summertime when they were hard to start, especially if if it had just returned from a call, and were shut off. What other manufactures are still going to produce diesel, I think they may see an increase in business.

One more shot of 6-1 as the sun was rising. It is still a halfway decent truck. Personally I find it to be a bit underpowered for some of the hills in the district, and most of the compartments are packed to the point you can not add much more to it. As it is you, need a road map to pack the cribbing on it (and yes I have seen most of the cribbing used at calls). As for the company hauling the cars, they are based out of Maine, and while not giving away the whole name, lets just say the word 'Accurate' is part of the company name.

Hehehe Thanks for the compliments. I know when we left the scene MTA PD and NYS DOT were awaiting a bridge inspector/engineer to check it out. Here is a photo of the point of impact on the bridge. It has been struck numerous times before, but I think the chunk missing from the lower section is new. The white piece of paper is actually the window sticker from the Focus. Just out of the photo (supported by those gray brackets) is a conduit carrying fiber optic cables along the right of way from Danbury to Beacon, which also has a nice dent it in.

Correct, right near the horse farm.Where 311 curves to go under the tracks

Lisi's big truck, Patterson 22-8-1, and 22-6-1. Thats it for now, I gotta go to work.

....The aftermath
-
The driver of the car carrier was uninjured and assisted by moving the truck when directed. It was backed up a short distance to Caroline Drive where Lisi Towing removed the damaged vehicles.
-
It was not until you were next to the car carrier that you could see both vehicles. The blue lump was a brand new Ford Focus, the gray is also brand new Ford F150

Shot from the west side of the bridge

With it being Texas, the mayor is lucky he did not get shot.. If I catch someone coming through my second floor balcony I am going to assume he is up to no good, and take appropriate action.

I've seen them out and about in Manhattan. Lots of room in the back, and the LED light package is extremely bright. I'll try to get some photos this week. Not sure why they got the extended cabs, maybe more room for the crews that spend a good portion of their day in them.
