Seth, I was always taught start with horizontal ventilation. I f the fire is on the top floor, then check with the interior crews to make sure they want the roof opened up that soon, (although that maybe a topic for another thread. AS for going down the stairs, yeah I would have to agree with feet first, facing the stairs. As mentioned you can move quicker, and react quicker if the stuff hits the fan. I also feel it is a better way to check to the integrity of the stair treads. It just seems like do a crab walk down the stairs (facing up) you cant hit the stairs as hard, and you head feels much higher up in the heat and smoke

WABC Channel 7 is reporting BAC of.19 and marijuana levels consistant with smoking within 30 minutes to 1 hour before her death. Also undigested alcohol in her stomach. What the hell was she thinking, smoking and drinking with the kids in her car. Not one for 'conspiracy theories', but I am beginning to think something else is going on here, maybe a fight with her husband???

Absolutely sick is how this makes me feel. The brother had to know she was bombed, not that it would have made much of a difference. I can only imagine the guilt he feels, To the agencies that responded, and dealt with the aftermath, you were dealt a bad hand, and did the best you could. Keep up with the counseling, and keep an eye on each other. Some of the sympytoms may not appear for some time, months even.

Thanks for the link, those photos are amazing. Probably never see photos like that taken ever again, due to department/city regulations due liability(lawsuits), and things like airpack face pieces blocking a good view of the firefighter's faces.

Anesti, thanks for getting a couple of pictures. The first thing that popped into my mind seeing the new house was R. Lee Ermery from "Full Metal Jacket"......"Your so ugly you could be a modern art masterpiece". Too many different angles going on, and as mentioned it doesn't blend into the neighborhood, but I guess as long as it serves it purpose.

Thanks for the honor Seth

NYPD staffing levels are approaching those of the early 1990s down to about 34,000

The taxpayers they wanted the new building to match the neighborhood despite the added cost. Much like the Scarsdale VAC quarters.

Knowing the way the city works, this mutt has been locked up numerous times for minor things. The DA's office likes to knock things down to lower charges(trials cost money), and then the judge gives a Adjournment Comtemplating Dissmissal. I arrested one guy for theft of service, and recovered a 5 inch steak knife from the guy waist band, The ADA drawing up the case refused to bring felony Criminal Possesion of a Weapon charge, even though the perp had served 8 years for Murder 2, with you guessed it a knife. The ADA felt that a steak knife was not a dangerous weapon. You know, lots of homeless dine on steak often.

They better hope they do not get a mayor like Guiliani or Bloomberg... the unions here heard the same thing in the mid 90's"the economy is bad , we need your help, and when things get better you will get your raises. hence the 'Zeroes for heroes' Contract , where the NYPD got 0,0,3,3, and 6 % from 1993 to 1996. Since then we have to fight for every penny through abitration, the city always had some other excuses as to why we should give up more, under the threat of no raises, or small (try offers of 1% or less). the contract was negociated and signed by both parties, they should have stuck to it. So what if you cant hire another class...not our problem.

Not sure if they still have it. It was listed on EBay last year, and in the listing said it had a bad water pump.

No ladders, let alone a tiller in Putnam. All tower ladders, or ladder towers here.

Given all the problems with Seagrave service FDNY has seen with their Aerialcopes in the last few years, this does not surprise me. AFAIK the Ferrara engines FDNY have, are performing the job, and given the economic problems, the city is trying to save where ever it can.

As mentioned in the events thread, here are the photos I took. I was in a rush, and was unable to get any info, such as years, pump size, etc. Here is the flag across the entrance.
