  1. I saw this article on Lohud.com discussing what may happen if Governor Cuomo and the State Legislature get a tax cap approved, without relief from unfunded state mandates. Would the state police be able to handle the additional work load if this happened?
  2. Wow, great photos, I especially like the group in the second post, showing the mini van almost in the opening of the culvert. Tough call given the drop and size of the patient.
  3. One photo I forgot to post earlier.. This one shows the amount of speedy dry used to contain the leaking gasoline
  4. Rest in Peace.
  5. Also in the NY Post
  6. Sorry that was the only stabilization photo I got. the first bunch of photos were taken on my cell phone. Once things calmed down I ran inside, changed out of my uniform, and went back out with my other camera. FDNY was too quick LOL, or I was too slow getting dressed
  7. PS After I left I heard my LT put on the spare tire and drove the pick up home.
  8. Truck 58 St Barnabus ambulance ESU
  9. Engine 45 The 5th man on the back step of Engine 45. A silent protest, or a sense of humor?
  10. Rescue 3 Members of R3 and the squads used a grip hoist to remove the SUV from the hood of the pick up. Engine 45's front bumper and a steel post near the building were used as anchors
  11. Some of the apparatus on scene, Squad 41 and their Haz Mat unit Squad 61
  12. A general overview of the scene after the SUV was placed on the ground. This also gives a rough idea of the height involved
  13. Driver's door skin impaled on the fence Initial impact to the red pickup
  14. the Engine 45 officer giving the size up Beginning to stabilize the vehicle to deal with the fuel leak and prepare to move the SUV, since the patients were being treated by FDNY EMS and units from St Barnabus Hospital.

  16. Springfield looks like it got hit pretty hard. Here is one website with 25 photos from around the city http://www.buzzfeed.com/mjs538/tornado-in-springfield-massachusetts Look slike it is going to be a long night for our brothers and sisters in the emergency services up there.
  17. Most people moving into Westchester, especially from NYC do not understand the concept of a volunteer fire department. Most see the fire department line in their taxes and assume they have a paid fire department., assuming it is like FDNY
  18. IIRC this was done to prevent overtime. Prior to 2002 there was a Westchester County PD officer that set up new cars and did plowing around the buildings who doubled his pension. The Journal News had a field day with it. Here is link to an abstract of the article. My linkhttp://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/lohud/access/1814185471.html?FMT=ABS&FMTS=ABS:FT&date=Dec+18%2C+2003&author=Keith+Eddings&pub=The+Journal+News&edition=&startpage=A.1&desc=Westchester+police+get+ban+on+overtime I refuse to pay the Journal News for anything.
  19. Here is a link to a 1996 Daily News article about the NYPD switching to all white RMP's. Savings per car $800. My linkhttp://www.nydailynews.com/archives/news/1996/06/24/1996-06-24_bye-bye_nypd_blue__new_polic.html I can only imagine what this new blue/white scheme is costing Westchester County per car in today's market.
  20. Even if it is just the new cars, it will cost more money than an all white car with reflective stripes. IIRC when NYPD made the switch from baby blue and white to all white the savings was several hundred per car, and this was 15 years ago
  21. Acupuncture. Would have loved to heard that conversation, "Sorry honey I'm under doctors orders to belch and fart"
  22. At what point is consolidation no longer and effective option? Using the Nassau/Sufffolk example, while it is great that they recognize daytime staffing is a problem and moved apparatus to a more 'central' location. But what if responding volunteer spend more time driving to the apparatus due to the increased distance, and it effects response times. I guess these departments allow these members to store their turnout gear in the personal vehicles or do they have multiple sets or do they secure them on the apparatus if they are able to respond that day.
  23. The only thing I consider disturbing in this recording was the mention of the sergeant considering the use of a Taser. Deadly force(or threat of) is always met with Deadly force options(firearms). Just because the State of Pennsylvania allows open carry does not mean the city of Philadelphia does. Here is a link to the law that discusses open carry in Philadelphia: http://www.pafoa.org...arms/open-carry For an example closer to home, you may have a full carry permit issued by Westchester County, however it does not entitle you to carry your licensed firearm into NYC, you must get an additional permit (which is almost impossible) from the NYPD. Cities often have greater restrictions do to higher crime rates with firearms, and population density. The sergeant started out respectful, and this idiot decided to be a s$%t house lawyer and not comply with the sergeant's directions. The use of language escalated as the defendant continued to refuse to comply with lawful orders. The uniformed police officer is always in control, and gives the orders, not the defendant. If the order is "get on your knees", the get on on your knees. Respect is a two way street, if you refuse to comply or treat me like crap, then my attitude and responses will change to meet the situation. Things like sir and please will get replaced with things like a$^%$hole and now.
  24. Are those the bay doors for Scarsdale? The doors do not look like they are tall enough to fit the ladder Scarsdale recently purchased. Of course I am just using the construction worker and the dumpster as a rough comparison, but those doors look small compared to the building
  25. After watching the video, I did not see any justification for using a firearm. That said after the taser did not work, and the suspect continues to fight, the officer had no other options other than hand to hand, pepper spray or the extendable baton, and attempt to contain until other units arrived. The officer did his best to try to contain the suspect in the area until back up arrived. In an open area like a street, this is not an easy thing to do. Even in an enclosed area this can be difficult to do. Imagine the public outcry if this officer did shoot the suspect. As for disabling the radio or the vehicle, I am not sure how many agencies actually purchase this feature. Our INTAC unit (in service tactical training) shows videos like this one all the time, not to Monday morning quarterback, but as a learning tool. What could have been done differently to prevent this out come.. Here is another video, this one from the Bronx with an EDP (yes the naked guy on a train) The officer is alone, with no Taser,( as the in the NYPD only the supervisor carries one.) Look at the difficulty he has keeping him in one area. In this video the officer could have contained the EDP in the subway car, by having the conductor shut the doors after evacuating the train. \http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUYYeS7gA40&feature=related
