Just saw this article in the NY Post, http://m.nypost.com/;s=qVpxiLsb__qTiqftAmOF914/p/news/local/bravest_gush_hour_VklxrQTpx6GyHTduvnhSWK NYPD responding to a call were outnumbered and being attacked by an unruly mob when the crew from Eng 158 used their deck gun to get the crowd to back up. I dont work in Staten Island, but want to extend a thank you. Unfortunately more and more PD units are running short handed, leading to long response times and less back up. My district in the Bronx routinely turns out 1 sector car per tour, and when it hits, the fan, back up seemed like it took for ever, now it does

Sounds like the NYPD. Now you know why I like to battle dispatchers, but that is for another thread. I did get to sit with both 911 call takers and PD dipatchers about 4 years ago. The call takers got the basic info for the call and then forwarded to the PD dipatcher via computer. When I say basic, it was real brief, almost to the point that you were shocked at how little they got.

Best Of Luck restoring it to better condition. One of the hardest parts is over, just getting ownership. I would love to get photos of her both in her current condition and after restoration. Of course that may take a while but slow and steady has never been wrong!

On October 9 and 10, 2010 the Patterson Fire Department took the 16 hour Trench Rescue Operations class offered by Collapse Rescue Systems ( http://collapserescue.com/ ). On the first day of instruction the classroom portion went over various topics such as the OSHA standards (working in a trench versus rescue operations),types of soil, general hazards, proper size up, and how to properly set up trench panels and shoring. Patterson FD utilizes six panels of 3/4" Finland Form with 2"x10" by 12 foot uprights bolted on,and Paratech rescue struts. The instructors, John O'Connell (FDNY retired R3 and Bill Xikis) also had the class utilize wood in place of the Paratech struts. The class then went to the Patterson Highway Department, where a trench had been dug to have hands on training. Patterson's rescue, 22-6-1 carries six panels, lumber, paratech rescue struts, and various tools(saws, air nailers, etc.) to set up and operate at at a trench rescue. The first evolution involved setting the trench panels and lumber to brace.

Rest in Peace. I plenty of stories about you and your antics, while cleaning at Mahopac. Rest well knowing your brothers and sisters in Mahopac will keep your memory alive

Yeah, but can they add a multi purpose bucket, say for firefighting and street light maintenance. then every city manager would be looking to get one. I'm sure the pump can be used to vacuum out catch basins too.

The park will reopen but this time no camping, no tents, no tarps, etc. curfew will be enforced

LRAD is Long Range Acoustic Device used to give instructions to large groups of people. It can also be used as a less than lethal weapon by directing a beam of focused sound. http://defense-update.com/products/l/LRAD.htm

Went from BB Storm to Galaxy S (Fascinate on Verizon) and couldnt be happier. I was happy with the Storm even though I had to pull the battery once a day. I wasnt looking for a new phone, but when the BB died I made the transition and never looked back. Once and a while I will have trouble with the touch screen (FAT fingers....small keys) Android offers so much more in the way of apps, and as mentioned is like a small tablet. Battery life can be disappointing, but get the free Advanced task killer, and remember the more you use it the quicker the battery will drain. I make sure I have a car charger available or regular charger if needed. I probably should look at a second battery

These liquid carbon dioxide systems are becoming more popular, since the tank can hold more liquid carbon dioxide, and last longer between refills than a system using carbon dioxide in a gaseous form. Almost any place with a soda dispenser, restaurants, fast food places, even mini-marts in gas stations can have them, not just McDonalds as shown in these videos. The tank is filled from outside the building, and should have a vent to the outside of the building as well. Some stores that do not have a basement may store the system in a back room, or inside the walk in coolers, behind the bottled soda/water/beer/etc.

Bloomberg doesn't have the balls to send in the NYPD. He really hopes that they will leave once the weather gets colder.

If he doesnt want to or isnt ready to come on just leave him there. He isnt a threat to anyone at this time why put rescuers at risk. Just postion a boat downstream to keep him under observation until he becomes a risk to himself and others. Also start the billing clock for the boat, the fuel, and the crew to send to this knucklehead, or put a lien on properties owned by him to recover these unnevessary costs created by his foolish publicity stunt

I have 4 e-mails that I had gotten moving summons in the "Town of Chatam, NY" and that payment was due to prevent further fines and fees. The e-mails claim to be from the NYS Dept of Motor Vehicles, but look very plain. I was about to contact the New York State Police, since if you do get a summons, you will not be contacted by E-mail, when I checked the State Police website (I needed the non emergency number to the local barracks). There is a link on the NY State Police website Traffic Ticket E-mail Hoax . Apparently there is a virus attached to the E-mail that will download if you click on the link to view the ticket. Please be aware of this, and pass this along to friends and family, especially older drivers who may be more likely to fall for scams like this. According to the State Police website, they are aware of this, they are investigating and there is no need to contact the State Police.

I was just watching the same episode. I have no training in swift water rescue, so I really would not even know where to begin on this. For those that have not seen the episode, or want another look here is the video. Explore the Hidden River - Off Limits .

Link to IA: Pleasntville Working Fire 10/17/11 I was at Pleasantville when the call came in, and responded to the scene after 2371 confirmed an electric fire with smoke condition in the residence. TL 5 and E260 were enroute to a drill (with Millwood I believe) causing 2371 to add an engine and ladder from Thornwood to the call. Here are mostly apparatus photos. I walked up the road/driveway to house but the home owner was less than thrilled that I was taking photos, so I left that area and went back to Deerfield Lane. Short video of Pleasantville Fire Horn sounding. I was told on another board these may be Leslie Super Typhons. Firefighter and LT from R47 assisting the E91 hydrant man make the connection Calling to confirm start the water
