  1. I would love to see what system the Justice Department comes up with to determine promotions.
  2. Yes you are correct. Not sure why I put 30 over, I just took a defensive driving class as well.
  3. 30+ mph over the speed limit for a regular driver is considered reckless, and an automatic suspension based on points issued after conviction.
  4. I think you are too caught up in FDNY operations. There are some parkways in Westchester County where a ladder or more likely, a tower ladder will not fit underneath the stone arch bridges. We can not even agree on the definiton of a trained FAST team member , and you are worried about what type of apparatus they are responding in. you are putting the cart before the horse.
  5. rest in peace Lt. Nappi, E237
  6. If the Chief has gotten specific complaints about member(s) from the public, or other members of the department, He should pull those accused into his office. Give them a warning, and let them know they will be watched. As the chief is doing it now, how long is he delaying his response to alarms? What is the common complaint from the public "What took you so long to get here?" Knowing how litigious today's society is, I can just imagine the lawsuits from someone who feels response was delayed because the chief was out playing cop. I would love to know how he determines if a member is speeding. Is he following (when was his speedometer calibrated), radar (again calibration), or just visual (what 30 mph versus 35 mph look like) Must be nice to not have worry about size up, number of responding apparatus with properly trained members, informing dispatch of scene conditions and orders for incoming apparatus, etc
  7. Great photos!! Thank you for sharing them here.
  8. Just saw this photo gallery in the NY Post http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/bronx/bravest_battle_huge_bx_blaze_psO6QE6bbgnsxG50x9cP8H of the 4 alarm fire at 726 Van Nest Ave, Bronx, NY. I work just down Morris Park Avenue, and the buildings here are close together, and a lot of the side streets are very narrow. Van Nest usually has cars parked on both sides, and one lane of traffic. Holland is the same.
  9. The same thing was said after the guy in Ossining was killed.

  12. The save changes tab, and Full editor tab appear, but do not work. If I click on cancel, it brings me to the top of the page, and when you scroll down it still has the editor box open
  13. I am running the latest version of Firefox, and it is still not letting me edit posts. I click edit, and the edit screen opens, but it will not let me save it it.
  14. No, they would have to hire a lot of officers to do this. Also there is no real need for this even though in the last year there has been an increase in grand larcenies. Usually the last train of the night on the weekends that has the rowdy patrons has a two police officers. Occasionally you will see a State Troopers on the trains during periods of high alert such anniversaries of terror incidents, holidays, or from possible threats. The NYPD used to ride to Mt Vernon, and Yonkers, (and Amtrak to Newark) but that was eliminated by budget cuts about 3 years ago.
  15. Anyone else having trouble editing posts? I went to add something to a post, and it would not let me save changes
  16. For more on Colin Ferguson for those of you not old enough to remember: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colin_Ferguson_%28mass_murderer%29 http://crime.about.com/od/murder/p/frguson.htm
  17. Police agencies are allowed to ride Metro North and Long Island RR for free, with conditions. This was in response to the Colin Ferguson shooting in Long Island. We must have the issued pass, be armed, and carrying shield and ID. If something happens on a train, we are expected to take police action. Same if the conductor asks for assistance, so yes its free, but with a price. Remember there are sections on Metro North and LIRR where a train may not readily stop at a station if something goes down, and MTA police will be a while before the can respond to the incident, or to back up the lone cop on the train. On the Harlem Line there is a MTA Police facility in White Plains, above that, from White Plains to Wassaic, there maybe one patrol car to cover the distance. I have ridden almost every time I worked for the last 5 years. I have had to take action several times, from the loud drunk to the guy that wanted to punch out a conductor for asking for his ticket.. We may only take a seat if there are unoccupied seats, otherwise we must stand. Firefighters (FDNY) with turnout gear may ride NYC subways without charge, as they are assumed to be moving between firehouses while on duty. I know at one point the NYC PBA pushed for free tolls, but that was denied by the state. At work our RMP's have Easy-Pass, which the city gets charged for every time we use it. Prior to Easy Pass, we had to stop at the toll, and have the RMP number recorded, and the command assigned for billing purposes.
  18. There is one stored at Brewster as well, and maybe one in the New Haven area as well
  19. There are ways to get equipment, such local gyms or schools. See if they are upgrading to new equipment, often you they will donate their old stuff to you. Even just walking, bike riding, and calisthenics will help, but you are right Moose, you have to have the desire to do it. My doctors tell me all the time I need to work out to improve my back by strengthening my abs, and losing weight. Its hard to it when you just want to go to sleep after a long day of work, or spend time with the family. See if your family or guys at the station want to work out together. I know two of the commands I have worked in have done their own version of "The Biggest Loser". Everyone who participated weighed in on the same scale, and put a small amount of money into a pot, with the winner taking the money, but everyone improved. Also they had fun breaking balls along the way, so be prepared for that as well.
  20. Isnt most profits made from inter-facility transports?
  21. Rest in Peace Officer Padrone, your watch is over. We will take it from here.
  22. Since they do not operate off of taxes, they may be able to sell any equipment and share any profits amongst the members.. As for them, they are like a case of herpes, it never quite goes away, and can flare up at any time
  23. An articled in todaysNY Post: http://www.nypost.co...2D8GWmnD22nnQwN that is allegedly being withheld to cover the dismal failure of Bloomberg's system improvements. $2 billion dollars wasted, but my pension is whats causing the economic problems.
  24. Bloomberg still stalling because "the report maybe inaccurate." http://m.nypost.com/p/news/local/mike_final_an_wer_on_POsD9csemQdf70WbEpYUbJ How much do you want to bet that the final report will say everything is fine
