  1. At 0852 while I was filling 22-4-2 on Mt Ebo Road South, about Half a mile away And my last photo before my battery died 0902 hours
  2. Here are a few cellphone photos I got early on, in during the tanker shuttle. First photo my phone has is at 0809 hours. some smoke visible from Rt 22. At 0845 hours Brewster's Ambulance 11-7-1 is on scene and smoke is beginning to thicken. Croton Falls has laid the 5 inch supply line to the right.
  3. Started off as a tanker shuttle with the water source on Mt Ebo Road. Tankers from Brewster (x2), Patterson, Putnam Lake, Carmel, Lake Carmel, Croton Falls, and Mill Plain, CT. Latter, Brewster was able to lay a 5 inch line from the ponds on Mt Ebo to the scene with their hose reel 11-8-1, with the tankers still in use. The five inch line Supplied by South Salem Engine 168 pumped to Patterson 22-4-2, which in turn pumped to Brewster 11-2-3 and 11-5-1. The Tanker shuttle was continued to feed Carmel 12-5-1 with Putnam Lake 23-2-5 as the source engine at the scene. Tankers were being filled by a Ball Pond Engine. The source that Ball Pond was drafting out of looked like it had been lower at least 2 feet, if not more. Croton Falls Engine laid 5 inch to rear of building from Putnam Lake 23-2-5 and supplied Carmel 12-5-1 Lake Carmel 17-6-1 brought their FAST team. Mahopac and later Somers Engine 180 brought manpower to scene. Patterson 22-5-1 brought to scene and later returned as unneeded. Numerous fire police vehicles as both the Putnam and Dutchess Fire Police teams were activated. Sate Police were also a huge help with traffic, especially early on during the tanker shuttle Route 22 was still open. Not sure who else I saw there, it was a very busy day. Heritage Fuel also came at one point to supply diesel fuel to engines and tankers.
  4. I would loved to see how the interior is set up.
  5. Just saw this video on line. Reported to be FDNY Ladder 40 with a fire in the tractor portion of the rig, while in quarters. Anyone have more info? How badly damaged was the truck? http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=3905752398235

  7. The truth about unions? They are there to protect their members. After the infamous Diallo shooting, and the Abner Louima torture there were calls by some in the community to disband the PBA because they stood up and provided legal consul and support. My union provides my dental and vision benefits, not the City of New York. I am supposed to believe that my employer will treat me fairly? Out of 14 years on the job, I have only worked under a contract for two and a half of them, because the city constantly cries we have no money. Even when the coffers were full. People are shocked when we go to arbitration. Its not like we just declare impasse and call an arbitrator up, it must be proven to the arbitration board. We once settled a contract 3 years out of date, and asked the city to begin negotiations on the next contract, only to be told by the city "we are not ready." The city was not ready for another 2 years. Just recently Mayor Bloomberg attempted to take away our defined benefit calling it a "Christmas Bonus" . My union protected that right, which had been negotiated by three different Mayors. Even today, I have a captain who insists that he can order people into work on their scheduled days off, for only 4 hours, even though that provision of the contract which guarantees a full days pay has not been discussed in decades. So tell me again why unions are bad? There are two sides to every negotiation, its not a one sided deal. WE have given back items in that past when times were tough and promised "we will get them back when times are good" . Im still waiting for all our give backs to be returned.
  8. I recently had a pipe spring a leak. It lead to the shower head in my bathroom upstairs. I had to break open the wall behind the shower to fix it. It was then that I noticed the hole cut in the floor to accommodate the tub drain piping. I also noticed that in this area at least three bays and the side area of the fiberglass tub/shower are wide open. It went up about 8 feet, before I saw any fire stops (2x 4). Today I had to replace the sheetrock in the dining room ceiling directly below the shower, which has access thru a cut out in the wall to the kitchen. Here is a photo from below. My townhouse was built in 1998. In theory, if a fire started in the kitchen, and the are any flaws or openings in the sheet rock, a fire would have access to the second floor, and roof within a short amount of time.
  9. Video of a new memorial to D-Day unveiled today in Saint-Marie du Mont France dedicated to all the junior officers who led from the front. The Statue is based on Major Dick Winters. I also have to praise young Jordan Brown, 13, of Lancaster, PA who personally raised almost $100,000. Just under half the cost of the monument by his sales of bracelets. I wish the country had more young men like him. http://www.cbsnews.c...nters-unveiled/
  10. Eisenhower's speech to the troops Eisenhower's speech to the people of Europe
  11. NYC Fire Marshalls have full police power, they are not peace officers. Here is a link to their history: http://www.nyc.gov/html/fdny/html/bfi/history.shtml. Outside of the city I am not too sure. Some places the investigation is by a county team comprised of police officer and trained firefighters. I will try to find more info when I get home. My cell phone battery is about to give out.
  12. Affirmative action (reverse racism)
  13. Driver alone can start to hit hydrants, give a size up, stretch handlines to door, and prepare items such as saws. Hopefully the next piece of apparatus is not too far away. Still, it sucks to be alone.
  14. Just read this article when I went to check my e-mail. http://news.yahoo.com/serpent-handling-west-virginia-pastor-dies-snake-bite-173406645--abc-news-topstories.html A pentecostal Pastor in West Virginia used a rattlesnake as part of his sermon. He put he snake on the ground and sat next to it, and guess what...got bit.
  15. I do not smoke, except for the occasional cigar. One of the captains I used to drive had an E-Cigarrette. It was a battery powered cigarette that used a liquid nicotine cartridge. It emitted a vapor that had no odor (looked like steam). As far as I know, they tip does not get as hot as a regular cigarette, and some have a button that must be depressed to heat the liquid nicotine. Studies are inconclusive as to the health effects of the nicotine. No tobacco is present. This captain was a stickler for the rules, but he routinely "smoked it in the car". Never once smelled anything.
  16. For those of you who use Facebook, and 'like' KME they have a bunch of photos of the complete Rescue 85 showing the equipment mounted in the compartments. Good Luck to the Armonk Fire Department, may it give you many years of safe operation
  17. You could argue that buy purchasing the gun she showed intent to cause serious physical injury or death and charge murder or manslaughter. If she already had ownership of the gun, the charges maybe the same, but a good defense attorney could make a strong case for mental defect or disease.
  18. That's a given. I have seen aerial devices that will self stow, but not one that will set up and extend to the roof at the push of a button. Now if they could put that on a remote...
  19. One problem with the Putnam system, other than you have to know what the numbers mean, is in portable identification. Since nearly every department has a XX-2-1 often times on a fire scene it gets shortened to say 2-1 Officer to Command. Fine if only one department is operating at a scene, but confusing where multiple departments are working together. Its a hard habit to break.
  20. Sorry, couldn't resist (poor quality, but the only clip on line I could find http://youtu.be/yil9wlfa0yo
  21. The lights tip up, to get them higher, and hopefully more visible from a greater distance.
  22. Not sure if some of those units carry enough hose to be considered an Engine. The may physically capable of carrying it, but for whatever reason the hose just is not there
  23. Knowing Pleasantville, the previous 2371 was renumbered and given to one of the assistant chiefs. The oldest car becomes the utility, and the current utility gets disposed of.
  24. The police package and special service Tahoe come with heavy duty radiators and oil coolers in addition to stiffer suspension, power supply wiring to front and rear, and skid plate protection underneath standard. Previous vehicles were Denali's and we have had problems with wear and tear on the suspensions. This vehicle replaces a 2003.
  25. Here are a few I found on-line. Not sure who you would ask for permission to use http://www.firefight...ry/newsid/64088 http://www.emtbravo....-dwelling-fire/ While not tipped over, Here is one I took in 2010, that shows angling the rig 10 to 15 degrees off the curb.
