Great to see that quick action by all involved police departments and an obvious cooperation between all PDs involved had the suspect in custody and the situation under control in such a short amount of time. Good job by all those involved.

Rest in Peace FF Joyce, your service on Earth will not be forgotten. May the angels of Heaven guide you into eternal joy. May his family find peace in this most difficult time. May the men and women of the Yonkers Fire Department find peace in the memories made and shared with FF Joyce, and may all those affected by this dark tragedy find comfort in the thoughts and prayers of others. "Greater love hath no man than this; that he lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13

The interior shots of the Malibu don't look like they show much damage other then the airbag deployment. The exterior looks like it could use a good body shop, but comparing the two interior shots, is amazing to show the difference in damage. I was in a car accident back in July, rolled my Dodge Avenger, and I definitely connect the make of the car, structure and such, as the fact that I'm still alive and kicking and pissing off the doctors.

Metal detectors are sensitive enough to detect metal surgical "equipment" in a body, most people who have metal have written signed letters from their doctors explaining what they have and where it is. But not every metal detector is set off by it, I recall my brother who has a plate in his shoulder saying the detectors didn't go off when he was going to Florida. But if the bomb makers aren't using any metal in the bomb, it won't set off a detector. They could be using all plastics to make it...making it virtually undetectable unfortunately.

Those shots are amazing. The amount of smoke being produced from those fires is amazing. The last shot looks like the entrance scene of the aliens from "Independence Day" with the large plumes of smoke then the space ship pushing through.

Looking at the video on the KTLA website, looks like basically the entire cab is in that sinkhole which I would imagine is full of water and mud. Great to know those firefighters were able to get out unharmed, especially before that truck went any further blocking the doors and windows as visible in the video. Great quote the new copter crew overheard on the scanner, something along the lines of "Engine 60 you can discontinue." Well, I would imagine they wouldn't be responding anywhere for a little while. Hope they didn't lose to much gear, but again most important of all, the crew got out safe and alive.

Great pictures, it's always a joy to see some of the old trucks that used to serve the departments of Westchester. I do have one question though, the ambulance marked A-1 Ambulance Service Inc., where was that company out of; where did they serve; were they bought out by another company or did they just disolve? Anyone who could answer this it would be greatly appreciated.

I was wondering if anyone could help me out, I've been looking to get my Connecticut and Pennsylvania EMT cards, just because I'm spending a more time out there...and was wondering if anyone knew where I could get the forms to fill out to obtain these cards or what I have to do go get them. Thank you in advanced for the help.

In Westchester, the main dispatching center is 60-Control in Valhalla. However, certain departments are dispatched by there local police departments or in-house dispatchers. Anything requiring Mutual Aid usually goes through 60-Control.

I'm just curious, I read in the incident alert Beekman 34-71 was responding to the structure fire driver alone for rehab...what is Beekman's 34-71? Is this a rehab truck or a utility with rehab equipment on it? Thanks ahead for the input.
-
Thank you all for the input...now one more thing, are there any apparatus specifically assigned for rehab for working fires? Or are ambulances called in and set up for rehab. I know here in Westchester, Ive heard Beeline Busses getting specially called to fire scenes for rehab...does dutchess have anything like that available?

Hey chief, aside that your tree looks a little bare(kinda tough to decorate), in the couple pictures of the backup line being used, was that just to give everyone a chance to do some work or was that actually required because the fire was getting a little bigger then expected. Just curious, other then that, great pictures.

So far I've heard 60 Control tone out for a Bedford, Bedford Hills, Katonah, Vista, Goldens Bridge, and Croton Falls Chiefs as well as Battallions 13 and 16 all to landline 60 Control. Is there something big going on or are these just tests of the radios...anyone know anything?

I just heard Irvington VAC dispatched mutual aid to Tarrytown for a Haz-Mat situation, anybody have any idea whats going on?

While it is true the law exempts emergency services as a whole basically or government personel, and I understand and hear it fairly often for an officer to call the desk. But what are the chances that every officer on his phone while driving a marked patrol vehicle is on the phone with communications. I understand it could happen very often for various reasons, but are we going to assume that every officer is on his phone while driving for official police business? I admit, texting while driving is extremely dangerous...while I was riding with my brother, we almost got into two accidents because he was texting. Me personally, if my phone goes off for a call, I'll check to see who it is and from that judge if its important...but with texting, I'm either waiting till I get to my destination or a safe place I can pull off to the side and check it. Should texting while driving be against the law, yes...you should either wait or pull over in a safe area...but like many people have said, what are the chances people will follow the law.

Sounds like a lot going on in New Rochelle, from the fire at the high school, to several wires down, just heard a tree down on a house. What mutual aid units are being called in for all the calls, and are there any mutual aid units being called in just to stand by? Because it sounds like every unit thats been called in, is being redirected to other calls, and it seems once theyve cleared one call, theyre being redirected to another call.

F.A.S.T. stands for Firefighter Assist and Search Team. They're a team set up with various equipment which hopefully somebody from a F.A.S.T. team can shed some light on what specific equipment...typically a stokes basket, spare SCBA pack and or just a bottle, axe, halligen, rope. What they do is they're posted in a designated area on the fire ground where they have quick access to one or more entrances to the fire building while interior operations are underway. Should a firefighter become lost or trapped, and that downed firefighter transmits a mayday, the F.A.S.T. team goes in to search for and extract that firefighter who transmitted the mayday. A very important and vital team on any fireground if I may say so myself. If I missed anything or someone wants to illiterate/correct me on any thing, feel free to.

I have an old Bearcat 210XL, and a Radio Shack Pro-433 on my desk, and I have a Radio Shack handheld forget the exact model number...all work great and get pretty good distance as far as reception. My Radio Shack Pro-433 gets all FDNY frequencies that I have in it.

This sounds like a great idea and like it could possibly be beneficial, but it also only sounds like something that can be done by a medic. Are there any plans or talk for ways to accomplish this on the EMT-B level or is it only on the medic level? I only ask because at times a medic may not be available or you have one coming mutual aid thats 5-6 minutes away that you rendezvous with...theres still that time gap between meeting with the medic or getting to the hospital. Also, is this something in the works only if you get the victim of cardiac arrest back or is this if its a confirmed arrest period.

With the hotter weather coming back in the picture, even with the thunderstorms we've had over the past couple weeks, it sound like there's another increase of brush fires. None of them sound big, but it sounds like they're starting to pop up. Is the state going to issue any warnings or bans to reduce the risk/chance of brush fires now that the weather is getting hotter?

Irvington, Tarrytown, and Sleepy Hollow Fire Dept.'s all have boats, and so does Mount Pleasant Police. There are deffinately a large number of boats in the area.

Sounds like Somers has a large brush fire, theyve called Katonah mini-attack and utility, Bedford Hills tanker, just heard theyre calling Croton Falls engine to scene, and possibly Mohegan engine, and something from Yorktown not sure what. Battallion 13 is already on scene...anybody know how big of an area this is? Also, just goes to show even with all the rain we had over the past week, still dry and warm enough for brush fires, Grasslands had a small one outside the childrens hospital earlier, goes to show the area is still dry enough to burn.

There was a gas station in Elmsford that didnt have bad gas, but was apparently not reseting the pumps and charging people for the gas they got and the gas the person before them got.
-
I just paid $3.89 a gallon at a station in Elmsford...probably one of the cheapest since a gas station over off of Benedict is something $4 or more I'm not sure.

Sounds like White Plains, Mamaroneck, and the County DES ATV's are being released. Whats the status of this fire. Has it been knocked down, have they released all mutual aid but will be working through the night?
