I just heard Tech Rescue, Haz-Mat and Battalion 14 get toned out. Anyone know whats going on where?

I'm still waiting for more info, not hearing much radio traffic; I am well aware that it could very easily be a call requiring Haz-Mat and Tech Rescue. So far I've heard County Haz-Mat and Tech Rescue dispatched, not sure if its all for the same call. Also, victims do not necessarily require Stat Flight especially considering the Medical Center is maybe a 9 minute drive from Tarrytown. Just heard from a buddy of mine near the scene, one transported to WMC by ambulance not sure about second victim.

Just spoke to a friend of mine from Sleepy Hollow they're going with one engine for Stat Flight, and Greenburgh Tech Rescue just went through Elmsford.

A good feed for 60-Control is Scan60.com. They have four channels, each with a group of towns, cities, or villages from the county; including the county trunk band. There is a little bit of a delay, but this is a great site to listen to 60-Control on.

Listening to Scan60 right now as I'm at work at my day camp, heard something about FDNY coming mutual aid into Westchester, has anyone heard anything else about this or have further details? Unfortunately not being home I don't have my real scanner to listen and hear whats going on.

There's two active fires in White Plains, one at the Con Ed substation where FDNY was called to and one I believe on E. Post Road in a row of stores with several affected. Several Westchester departments in the city at either scene or filling in for WPFD. Definitely a bad day for these fires.

Listening to this right now, Bridgeport is holding all personnel, those on and those coming in. Also instituting a watch desk assignment for all companies.

The first one was from what I heard a firefighter down, I believe from heat, and the second was a mock patient I believe started experiencing heat exhaustion and dehydration. When they had the second real emergency I believe they decided to call it so we didn't have more real emergencies.

I was at this years airport MCI drill, it was my first time going to this. Members of my department have gone in the past and said there was a lot of confusion, and several things apparently didn't go as they were planned including transporting the mock patients to real hospitals. This year, again being my first, in my opinion was not that confusing. Unfortunately I did not know there was a meeting at Purchase FD to discuss the drill. Unfortunately there were not many ambulances this year from what I could tell, and that is partly why patients were taking a while to be seen and transported. Also another thing, there were two "Real World Emergencies" the second of which resulted in calling off the rest of the drill. From what I saw, it went fairly smoothly compared to what I've heard about drills in the past. I personally was called from my rig to assist another unit in loading patients and then I road to the "hospital" on that unit. In the real world that could very easily happen..and from what I saw there was a large amount of teamwork; nobody said I don't like that agency so I won't help them but I'll help that one. Everyone worked together including the fire departments involved; they were asked to help load patients and did so without question. There was a little confusion at random points throughout the drill; but I'm sure that, and anyone who's been involved in a real MCI of this scale or similar can add more. That in the real world there's going to be confusion, there's going to be personnel from agencies riding on other agencies ambulances; nothing will go smoothly or perfectly as planned. Things may have gone wrong this year that were planned, or things happened that weren't planned. Those in charge of planning and organizing the drill I'm sure are aware of all that went wrong, and are already working on correcting it, and what went right and are ensuring that happens the next time. The point of drills like this are to train on what could happen so that all involved may be prepared for it if it ever happens for real. In my opinion, an all around educational useful drill.

Nice looking truck, obviously its an ESU truck, what exactly is it used for? Is this something used for transporting of high security prisoners, something used at the county jail in case of any riots or anything? Anybody who could tell a little bit about its use would be awesome. Other then that, great looking truck.

I just heard Armonk and Millwood's tankers toned out to relocate to Eastchester Fire Headquarters at least that's what I believe I heard...anybody have any idea what's going on?

What would winter be in New York without at least one heck of a snow storm. Granted this would be number 2, although more serious then the last; it just wouldn't be New York without it. Hope everyone stays safe and somewhat warm.

Went to log on to Yahoo! to check my email and every now and then I'll read the headlines and some of the articles on it. Went to read the headline on now, and it was about Sports Illustrated's February issue cover photo. The photo is of I believe pro-skier and skier for the U.S. in the winter Olympics Lindsey Vonn. She is in a "tuck stance" position in the photo, and there is uproar about the photo, that it is provocative and sexual. I see nothing sexual or provocative about it, as I have watched skiers and seen several of them take stances similar to this one. We all know that basically unless your wearing two sweaters three pairs of pants and standing straight up arms at your sides, someone will have a problem with your picture as a celebrity; it is quite humorous to read some of the articles or blurbs on the. However, I know I personally have seen several commercials on T.V. excluding certain ones, that are extremely provocative and suggesting. I recently saw a commercial for Palmolive Cleaner I believe, where the commercial has a grown male shirtless cleaning the floor, and ends with the spokeswoman in bed wearing provocative clothing with "romantic" music playing and the lights dimmed. I have seen several commercials like this and some worse, however; I have not read anything online or anywhere how those commercials should be banned and are to provocative; yet, a skiers picture who happens to be a female taken in a pose she is in while skiing, gets huge uproar. Is it me or are there serious problems with how certain things are viewed and others are not. A link to the article on Yahoo! is below. Not sure if this is the right forum for this topic, a question came to me reading the IA Post about the jumper off the TZB. This is directed at departments fire or police that operate marine units year round; is there any sort of special protocol when it comes to operating during the winter season where ice may be an issue. is there specific gear worn when operating out on the water? what conditions prevent a boat from being launched? are operation times out on the water different in the winter where ice and cold may be a factor than during the summer where temperatures are warmer? Are there any rehab protocols set up for personnel who were operating out on the water in cold weather or ice conditions. Thank you in advanced for any answers.

First to start, not sure if this topic belongs here, and if not I ask a Moderator to move it to the appropriate location. I saw a commercial for Vonage phone service earlier, and of course as with every other time was curious about the fine print on the bottom that Vonage 911 is different from traditional 911. So I decided to go to the Vonage website and see what that was about. Vonage is a VoIP phone service, requiring obviously internet connections. That's all fine and dandy, but when I started reading about their own version of 911, it kind of made me skeptical and worrisome about it. With Vonage 911, their own version as they do have basic 911; aside from the fact that there is a fee for 911 because it is their own version, you are not automatically connected to the nearest 911 Emergency Center; instead you are transferred to a National 911 Emergency Center, where they will confirm the location you are calling from and then transfer you to the local 911 Center. Then reading further, if you lose power, or your broadband connection, you lose the ability to call 911. So not only do you not get connected to the nearest 911 Center immediately, if you lose power or internet you lose the ability to call 911. To me, I don't trust that at all, and would be worried everyday if I may have to call 911 do I have internet connection, or if I lost power and my house caught fire or there was some medical emergency, I better make sure I had my cell phone or ran to a neighbors house and used their phone. Just curious as to what others may think of this, whether you would want to pay for a 911 service, and if anyone on here had any VoIP service and had anything like this.

I actually remember my instructors talking about this a little during my FAST class, sounded like a very interesting and useful device. Do any departments around Westchester with FASTeams have these in operation or have experimented with them?

Great looking truck, always been a big fan of black over red like that. The saying over the windshield is classic, and I also like that on the sides of the pump it appears they put the "then and now" of the engines; not sure if that's their first engine to this new one or one of the first engines ever. All in all, great looking truck and good luck to Franklin FD.

My car more specifically prior to rolling spun out into a guardrail both front and rear several times, and my car was equipped with side curtain airbags as well; and I landed on the passenger side of my car when all said and done.

All I know is, car construction today saved my life in the accident I was in. Of course with the exception of airbag deployment which I still always question why tapping the front or rear bumper sets 'em off, but rolling your car doesn't.

Very interesting article/website, and of course there were some posts arguing something happened someplace else or originated someplace else specifically about Buckout Rd, that the boy killed then hung over the car happened in Kentucky. I'm sure everybody has heard stories about something similar happening in their home town, and each story probably says it originated there. It is an interesting website, and I'm sure if they just went into Putnam they'd find some creepy roads. Maybe they should take a drive to upstate NY, I'd say every 7 out of 10 roads up there is creepy especially at night. Just visit some of the historic places up there, Fort William Henry, Fort Ticonderoga, Mt. Defiance...those places especially at night are extremely creepy.

That was in deed a great training video. Not only did they take the time to show you, they said move by move what was being done to remove the super heated gear. I have on question though which wasn't really mentioned in the video and I'm not sure if it would be done as they showed; at the end when they went to remove the SCBA mask, they rolled his hood off on to his neck, if that is super heated which I'm sure the hood would be to...is rolling the hood back like that going to cause additional pressure which could cause burns? Other then that great training video.
