Click on the link below and then double click on the picture on the top right to open the video window. http://www.nbc4.com/news/10836940/detail.h...l=headlineclick This is kind of the opposite of what I am used to seeing, people constantly questioning the need of Fire Department and Fire Stations, but here the community at large is in support of keeping the station open. It must be difficult for the guys down there to operate knowing that you only have 10 days to pay a big bill or your station and community is done for. I mean I understand that whoever the money is owed to is need of it; I’m only assuming that the money is going to the manufacture and dealer and I know that they are only trying run a business, but seriously come on isn’t there another way.

I did not make this, just found it online and thought it would be interesting to share. (Part I) (Part II)

When I took a class in Rockland County a while back a guy from Spring Valley was in the class next to mine. He said that Spring Valley is broken down into different companies. Here is a link to some of their rigs. http://public.fotki.com/lfd171/rockland_co...ng_valley_fire/ Engine 17-1750 2000 Spartan/Saulsbury 1750/1000 Columbian Engine Company No. 1 I honestly don’t know much about them since the guy I talked to was from Rockland Hook & Ladder Company.

This video is amazing and scary at the same time. Click on the link. http://firefighterclosecalls.com/downloads.php Scroll down a bit until you see the title. Daniel’s Block Fire-BACKDRAFT Video Read the full report to give you some background information regarding the incident and then click on the box to watch the video. On a side note take a look at the video under the box showing the wrong way to foot a ladder and I will leave it up to you to decide. I wasn’t really sure where this should go so feel free to move it the right forum.

I figured that this would be the best place to ask for help with this kind of topic. I writting another paper for school and I need a little help. The topic is Folklore in the Fire Service. The biggest thing I need is sources; alot of the books and internet items i looked at just gave me a definition and no real reasoning behind it. Just to keep the confusion level down here is a brief definition of folklore. Folklore- Traditional beiefs, myths, tales, and pratices of people transmitted either orally or through some sort of written document. some of the stuff I am using- Brotherhood in the fire service, origins of Maltase Cross, origins of SCBA, first fire apparatus, creation of leather helmet, and history of NYC volunteer fire service, etc. If I confused anyone please just ask and I will try and clarify. any information would be greatly appreciated.

I have never met or ridden with the members of Kentland 33 and therefore I cannot criticize them. I don’t understand how we can say that they are disgraceful if we really know nothing about them except from what we read in articles. After I read the article and have talked to a few friends who have had the privilege to ride with them, that they are truly dedicated VOLUNTEERS who are passionate about their jobs and who want to keep their tradition alive. These guys live at a firehouse for no pay at all, isn’t that was being a volunteer is about, dedication and pride. They don’t go home to their families and friends and then respond from home to the alarm, they stay at the firehouse 24 hours a day 7 days a week to make sure that their community is well protected. Why is it different that they can get blasted for getting to the scene first, but it is in fact similar to many of us when some get a fire they fly to the scene with blue lights everywhere trying to get to the scene to be the first one in, but that is ok and safer “rightâ€, I don’t agree their system works and I wish my department adopted it that they cannot respond to the scene in personal vehicles they are either on the truck or their not there and they sign on with their staffing numbers knowing that they have a full crew and getting their first and being able to complete the required task as compared to flying to the scene to hurry up and wait for the rigs to get there are two completely different things so why are they criticized for that. To be honest with you I think that many are jealous of them, myself included. Because of the amount of calls, fires, skill, and experience that they have they are flat out good at what they do .It is because some don’t go to as many fires or don’t get there first that they feel that they have to bad mouth them. If you were offered the opportunity to be a member of that station and be apart of that family, not to go on the amount of calls or fires, but to be part of the tradition of the Kentland name, would you do it? Would you give them a chance to show you their true colors, other than what the media says about them. To let them show you why they are they way they are? As for the incident with the arguments and burns. I can’t believe what is in the media because I was not there I will say that it is inexcusable if it was truly done, if anybody noticed that the firefighters accused of those actions had their charges dropped against them, when it comes down to it if you where in a fire with members of Kentland and you where in need of help or vise versa would you think that they would help you or would you help them? I know they would help me and I would without a doubt help them, because they are firefighters and that is all that matters in my eyes. This is only my opinion.

Could be one of the funniest things that I have ever heard. My favorite is the one with Homer Simpson. I am going to have to try this someday. Prank Phone Calls

I'm doing a research paper on the number of firefighters killed every year that were involved in traffic accidents while en route to an emergency with apparatus. My teacher said that I need at least 1 primary source (interview, autobiography) and 4 hard sources (one must be a book) i got the most of my info online, but I can't find anything else concerning my topic. Can anybody help with finding information.

I don’t know of any departments around here using them, but they seem to be pretty popular in the southern states and the southwest. The ones I’ve seen where used by state troopers they are used as “Aggressive Driving Traffic Carsâ€. From what I’ve seen they work well. Especially when they are used with different cars like camaro’s, and suv’s with tinted windows you have no idea it’s a cop until it’s too late.

From Firehouse.com Slide Show at http://www.firehouse.com/hotshots/slidesho...y=2005/0505_ppe It sounds like a good idea, but who knows how much it costs and what Westchester departments will use or afford them.

I was just curious to see whether or not Westchester County has a Technical Rescue Team? I know that some PD’s and FD’s have ESU or special Squad companies that can perform these duties, but for as far as I know most of these departments are in the southern part of the county, I don’t know of any in the northern half. During the incident on the Tappan Zee Bridge I heard that Rockland County’s Technical Rescue Team was called to respond which got me thinking. Does anybody have any info on this? Or Technical Rescue at all for that matter? :-k

Well said, =D> I wish Westchester County would adopt the numbering system used in Prince George County Maryland. It is just incredibly simple to use and remember. More info could be found at http://www.goprincegeorgescounty.com/Gover...p?h=20&s=60&n=0 Or http://www.firecompanies.com/companies.php under Maryland (Prince George County)
