2 problems I have with this. 1: as a student athlete I NEVER had a good nights sleep. Especially when I had homework on the weekends or week nights. There was nights where I was in bed by 1am.
2: should work with the school and make rules. If your department tones out more then 2x for the same call then the students should be able to go and be excused with a note from the chief with a call number and to ask the chief if the student was on the call.
Final food for thought, you as a department can not mess with someone's service award points. It's against the law!!!

  7. MoFire390 liked a post in a topic by AFS1970 in The difference between Ladder Tower and Tower Ladder
Coming in late to this, but I always thought that the difference (other than a branding difference) was that a ladder tower had a fully useable ladder with a bucket on the end. A Tower Ladder only had the escape ladder that is only used in the rare case where you can't get the bucket lowered and the emergency hydraulics are not working. I am not even sure if this has ever happened.
As for the county only recognizing ladder and tower ladder, isn't that a bit like saying we will consider all engines as hose wagons, we don't care if they have pumps or not? A telesquirt is most definitely a type of engine but a snorkel is it's own thing with some unique features that might be nice to know about, instead of having to remember which number truck is a snorkel.

FAS teams should be there for the entire incident. As long as there is interior work being done they should be there. Heck even for exterior work. You never know when or what will happen. It's always better to be safe then sorry.

There has got to be a way that us as EMS first responders, police officers can do. just seems to be the low point on everyones check list. all the politicians are caught up in the gun control effort and not the real problem.

Here in the Tri-village there has been 2 deaths from this killer. Through my years of EMS I have seen my fair share of this killing many. Been on a ton of calls were the kids have been brought back and those that have not.
So my question to you all. How would you address your high school population with the recent deaths? Do you scare them with horror stories? Do you bring in a guest speaker who has battled addiction? Or do you just let this be?
This has been killing me for about a few hours now. Any and all answers would greatly be appreciated!!

The kids need to know somehow the effects of heroin. As a retired correction officer of 25 years I have seen many addicts go throuring tygh some of the most horrific withdrawls....banging heads on walls, shaking, puking, scratching the paint off the walls, ramming their headhs into steel bars, crying, etc in a setting where no one really cares wether you live or die. They need to know heroin will either get you dead or locked up. Instead of trying to mess with the 2nd amendment or trying to ram this new common core program in the schools money needs to be spent on programs to deal with this. I also know a few kids that have died in the past from herion and the effect left on the families is horrible.

Thanks again guys. Got the official word that as of tomorrow afternoon I can kiss sleep goodbye for a while as mommy and baby will be coming home. I also want to thank the staff of putnam hospital birthing center for all they have done. The nurses there were absolutely outstanding! They were with us every second of the process even before they found out we were both MOS (that just got me a cup of coffee...). Thanks to everyone that has called or messaged me with their well wishes. It means a lot to Jackie and myself to have such great support from our brothers and sisters. Thank you again and happy holidays to you all.

I must say it have quiet a few. First my grandfather Thomas "the rock" Conklin. Then my father Ex-chief Ken Gilleo. The first person who actually took me in and I have a pleasure of sittin with and talking to all the time Billy "Bull" Flynn. On the EMS side I have to say my cousin Pat Wisker (FFEMT150) for smacking me in the head and having me get my stuff together, TM for pushing me to learn more and increase my knowledge. And so many others that I'm having a hard time of coming up with the words to describe how they have helped me in so many ways.

Tonight @ 21:00 the Plattekill Fire Department was dispatched for a PIAA on the NYS Thruway at mile marker 71.1 South Bound. Car 1, Car 3, Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 4, 645 and 47-36 where all responding when @ 21:11 We were advised that Engine 4 was involved in a Motor Vehicle Accident, roll over with entrapment.
I have a been some sort of a chief officer for 13 years now, in the fire service for 21 years and never once did I instantly feel like I was going to vomit while responding to an incident...not until last night. I can tell you there are so many things that are going through your head after receiving an alarm involving your own...
What do I do? Whom do I call? How difficult is the extrication? What Happened? What did they hit? Who is in the truck? But the toughest question, the one that still rings in my head is "Are they alive?"
I will not speak of specifics. I will not release the details of this incident and I will let the authorities finish their investigation. But what I can tell you, 4 of the 5 firefighters have been released. Engine 4 is a total loss and the definition of brotherhood was re-taught to me through the actions of area fire departments and fire departments through out the state.
Cronomer Valley whom handled the incident...Thank you!!! Your professionalism went a long way tonight. You are our brothers and for you I am thankful. With out getting into every department that has reached out to us, because I can guarantee someone with be forgotten, whether it be at either at our stations or through phone calls, I had 132 missed calls, Thank you!!! Never have I had such an out pouring of support just for us.
I ask you, do you know what it is like to have to sit at the back of your vehicle trying to coordinate different responses while your Firefighters need YOUR help? Not something I EVER want to handle again.
For years we instill into our memberships heads...Seat belts, seat belts, SEAT BELTS... and on November 2nd 2013 @ 21:11, those seat belts saved their lives.
At St. Francis Hospital...the support continued. Fairview, Roosevelt, Arlington Fire Departments, with Engines, and Lisa Gardner, whom provided me with very informative updates, met the inbound ambulances to assist with ANYTHING we needed, ANYTHING. Tears is the word that best described how I was after I was notified of your support! I cant say thank you because thank you doesn't cover your actions. I owe you... period.
At 1:21 we called back in service, My membership continuing to want to help the community, knowing that what we seen tonight could have been completely different.
We will continue serving the community, we are Plattekill. We ARE Plattekill Strong.
I ask no one post NO Photos or post no details until the investigation is complete and I approve of such postings.
    Thank you Everyone.
    Chief Christopher Mancuso

I rode for CCVAC when I was in High School. I remember we had a trailer (old mobile home) for equipment,
meetings at the library and both van ambulances were parked outside. CCVAC for many years didn't have a
    a place to call home.
Hank is a BIG part of why CCVAC now has a headquarters. I remember him spending hours, days, weeks
and months working on the building. All for his community and the members of CCVAC. As mentioned he built
    it with his bare hands.
Many times he stopped what he was doing to jump in the ambulance and respond to a call.
Once the call was over right back to work. He did this for no money. He was a Volunteer.
I am happy I had a chance to see him a few months ago at the Paradise in Verplanck.
GOD BLESS YOU HANK.... YOU WILL BE MISSED!
