how is an agency gonna know about a persons driving record? someone correct me if im wrong by the place were this incident took place is a VOLUNTEER agency. your gonna tell me that every agency should do driving record checks on ALL the members that drive?? are u crazy...thats just a straight up WASTE of money!!! ill tell u right now i've had accidents in my personal car 2 of which i totaled my car... you mean to tell me that the agency that i belong too shouldnt let me drive because of my PRIOR driving record??? honestly if there is a good driver training program out there its the EVOC class. people get in ACCIDENTS every day...THATS WHY THEY ARE CALLED ACCIDENTS!!! do i think what this guy did was wrong? yes i do. and he should be held responsable for his actions because he knew he took the sleeping aid.

what does having a CDL have to do with the driver training program??? just because you can drive a tractor trailer doesnt mean you drive an ambulance... in my experience an ambulance is more top heavy then a tractor trailer. regradless of age and gender and whatever else comes into play, he opperated the rig while taking a sleep aid...not good judgement.

There are so many different views and options out there for qualifications of officers. What happened when those classes weren't available back in the '60's and '70's?? I know one thing I NEVER heard my grandfather talk about the intro to fire officer classes and fire officer classes. Everything was how you handled yourself on the fire ground. I don't know, just rambling I guess.

I agree with you Rob. 2 years is too short to run as an officer. It takes more then 2 years to understand the department you represent and get the trust of the other members. The department I belong to each officer does 2 years at one position. then goes through the ranks all the way to chief. Some departments don't have a requirement as long as you have a badge you are good to go. Hope this helps Ken

ok im down for this one. a great firefighter someone who has the understanding that helping ones community and showing department pride doesnt get in the way at a call or around the fire house. one who has knowledge and wants to keep expanding his/her knowledge while talking with both "old timers" and new members of the fire service. one who keeps trying to understand the "beast" we fight, and tries to find an understanding of what makes it tick. one who is not affraid nore brave enough to say they werent scared. thanks all i can think of for now.
