  1. Yes we are in the process of building a PUC on a Velocity chassis. We are expecting delivery sometime around the Feb/Mar time period so warm up your cameras. Not a top mount though. We were at the factory in early September and you would not believe the number of these things they have. You couldnt look in any direction or go to any building without seeing numerous PUC's.
  2. haha we have new commissioners who dont play pin the tail on the color chart. and on a side note, if any departments are looking to outfit staff vehicles or command vehicles, these guys do a spectacular job and for a reasonable price. They are located about 5 minutes from the Danbury mall right off I-84. This was Beekmans first SWS vehicle and wont be the last.
  3. http://asiwear.com/ if you want to spend a lil extra, these guys make awesome stuff. we bought the 3 season, carhart style and truckie (quilted) jackets and the embroidery was just awesome. I also have several tshirts from wetdowns and they hold up really well unlike some screenprinting companies.
  4. Not sure the year, but I know EFFD just had all of their tankers re-furbed within the last few years. http://www.wiccopeefireco.org/apparatus/3934.htm
  5. This ride is to benefit the daughter of New Hackensack Chief Rocco DiMase. She suffers from acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Below is the link to their website with all the information and registration forms. I know myself and our FD motorcycle club will be attending. Hope to see a good turnout! http://nkfd.org/benefit/index.htm
  6. heres some shots of Dutchess countys biggest kept secret, the Castle Point VA hospital's fire department apparatus. CPFD runs 3 shifts of 5 firefighters (currently 4 per shift due to open positions). All are Interior, hazmat tech, EMT-B and confined space rescue tech. We run 2 engines, 2 ambulances (used for transporting patients around the hospital grounds) and a Hazmat/decon truck . http://s20.photobucket.com/albums/b244/fir...nt%20apparatus/
  7. Castle Point is on automatic 1st alarm for structure fires, CO calls, and vehicle fires. We used to be on AFA calls at Fishkill health related (now Elant Health care) but no longer. Our response with Chelsea changes everytime the chiefs change. Some have used us more, some less. We have never been totally removed. People think that we are there to take over, which isnt the case. we are just an under utilized resourse. As far as the hiring process goes, once a job vacancy is announced (usajobs.com) it is posted to the website with a list of requirements. applicants need to submit a bunch of information and answer the a few knowledge, skills and abilities questions. It then goes to the national VA's grading people and is scored and a list is generated and sent to the chiefs. The chiefs do interviews and grade each applicant based apon whatever questions he feels like asking. once that is done, the grades are combined and a hiring list is submitted to HR who is responsible for offering the jobs. The whole process is quite long. its usually about 6-8 months from the time you submit your paperwork to the time, if your lucky enough, to get a start date. As Turd stated, we can respond when requested, except for the ambulances. At CP, if we are committed for longer then 30 minutes, we initiate our call back list and a mutual aid company is relocated.
  8. Castle Point and Montrose are part of the Hudson Valley Healthcare system. Almost everything is split between the 2 places. Hazmat 3 and 91-69 (hazmat rigs) as well as E-225 and 91-11 (ferrara engines) are twins. They were spec'd at the same time for both campuses. Castle Point Engine 2 is actually the old E-225 from montrose. Each campus has 15 firefighters divided into 3 shifts. Most of the other VA's are set up similar. Theres a few that are slimmed down to 3 man shifts because of career departments on the outside.
  9. sry forgot to take it off private. it works now.
  10. thanks Dan. The wires never came off the building. NYSEG actually showed up after the fire was out and cut them down off the pole. I commend all of the first arriving units on an aggressive attack. we had a plan right off the bat and were able to stop the fire from spreading to the living areas of the home and saved most of the valuables, except the 100th anniversery Harley that turned into a fireball in the garage.
  11. just to clarify a few things here about the fire: 1) the words fully involved were never used. I happened to be the first one on the scene and reported a working garage fire and requested a 2nd alarm to the chief. we use our chain of command. 2) the fire rapidly spread through the garage due to a heavy fire load and spread up the B side and into the attic. The first 2 crews into the building stretched lines to the garage and to the 2nd floor and attacked the fire. the 2nd floor crew pulled ceilings and attacked the attic fire and saved 90% of the valuables (including 2 cats) the use f 34-11's stick could have been used if the fire had not self vented. we try and set it up as best as possible in case it does need to be used. and in more cases then not, we do use it. 3) just some things for people to keep in the back of their minds when encountering these fires: people store a ton of s**t in their garages. The home heating oil tank bleve'd, there were oxy-acetylene torches, propane tanks, keresene heaters, large capacity air compressor that were all impinged by the fire. 4) the last thing i have to say is that everyone there did an awesome job saving the homeowners things. they were very appreciative of the job we did and the things we saved. And people on here need to not jump on the bashing banwagon so soon. the original IA was posted by a 16 year old kid who has no firefighting experience what so ever. so things he posted were not totally accurate and can easily start negativity by some of the voltures on here.
  12. pawling sta 1(main) is off rt 55 near the village, sta 2 is off rt 292 (holmes) about a mile from whaley lake and sta 3(mizzentop) is on top of quaker hill with all the rich people lol
  13. i believe ISO requires them to be maintained semi annually. Our department takes care of the ones we have no matter who has installed it. this way, we can assure it is done to our standards and in a timely fashion. They are a great resource to have as long as they are installed correctly and maintained on a regular basis. We ran into a situation where one was installed by the "state engineers" and it was a complete disaster. we had to put it out of service and take it out of the ground. We now have a set of plans for people to follow if they propose a dry hydrant so they are all the same.
  14. I just took codes class with him as the instructor in Putnam a week ago. may he rest in peace and condolences to his family and collegues at the State.
  15. courtesy of FoxNews.com.....Rumor has it that he bought a horse farm in Beekman, but its a "rumor." Michael Jackson has settled his Neverland Ranch issues for the moment, as I told you a couple of days ago. So here's the latest on his living arrangements. According to sources, Jackson is moving to upstate New York. Specifically, I am told that Jackson has either bought a home or one has been purchased for him in or around Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The sales price is said to be in the $1 million to $2 million range. It's said to be a gated property with several bedrooms and a large backyard where his three kids can frolic. No word on whether this will turn into a Neverland East with rides and a zoo. Let's hope not. The curious part of this story is that yet another benefactor may have purchased the home for Jackson. Jackson, for some reason, has turned Tennessee Williams ' phrase "the kindness of strangers" into his private credo. If and when he makes the move, there's going to be a buzz. The Poughkeepsie area is a small one, so neighbors there should notice pretty quickly if a black man in white face and long, flowing, synthetic black hair wearing a Sgt. Pepper suit and sunglasses suddenly turns up at the Dairy Queen with three kids in beekeeper suits. And that's not all the Jacksonian news. The singer has agreed to appear on a new album by will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas. It's a tentative step toward coming back to his career. Sources say the new duet is payback for all the work will.i.am did on Jackson's updated "Thriller" album. The 25th anniversary special has passed the 3 million mark worldwide, which is quite an achievement. The single may be the first step in Jackson's plan to record a whole new album. It would be his first in seven years.
  16. Just wondering what other departments are using for vehicle stabilization systems. My department is looking at getting either a res-q jack system or a Rescue 42 system. They both seem to have their advantages and disadvantages like any other tool. any opinions on likes and dislikes would be greatly appreciated. thanks!
  17. Just what EFFD needs, more trucks! lol. looks good nate. Our new rescue/engine should be here december/january time (fingers crossed.) we went with a Pierce PUC on a velocity chassis. its gonna be a sweet looking rig! Come to beekman once in awhile!
  18. haha no it was actually a guy playing some sort of music on a banjo. sad thing about it was that people were actually paying attention and listening. then again that area is where the men are men and the sheep run scared!
  19. Thanks! haha
  20. The Savoy? its either that or the one that sits right in front of it, which i dont remember the name of. its a little hole in the wall sports bar. we went there one year and the "live band" was called "the hillbilly experience" and it was a guy playing a banjo! it was quite the "experience" haha
