It hurts my heart to see that we have lost so many Brave Brothers and Sisters already this year. One Law Enforcement death is too many. Be vigilant my brothers and sisters. Get back to basics, it's about US first... Our safety is PARAMOUNT TO ALL ELSE. I've been on the job 12 years now and I try to look over the new guys and try to correct any tactical mistakes that they make and I urge all veteran cops to keep an eye on the new guys... the one tactical suggestion that you make to a new cop may be the one that saves his life one day. God Bless Our Fallen Officers... You have my love, honor, admiration and respect... You are true heroes. Gone But NEVER Forgotten.

There is now another Angel in Heaven watching over us all. Rest In Peace

God Bless you my Brother, Rest In Peace. This is the 6th LODD in the U.S. this year, please stay safe, be extra vigilant and look out for each other

I was deeply saddened to lear of this tragedy. This is NOT a partisan issue, this is a CRIMINAL issue. This motherless bastard committed a horrific crime and shot at people regardless of political affiliation, who knows if he actually wanted to kill the Representative or just wanted to make his crime a high profile one and this large gathering of innocent people was the first one he came across. No matter what his reasons were, I hope with every ounce of my being that his trial will be quick as will his being sentenced to death and then I hope his death is slow and painful. May God Bless Rep. Giffords and the others who were wounded and may those that were killed rest in eternal peace.

There are also the County Jail website. The Westchester County jail has an inmate lookup section that tells you the offenders name, alias, dob, crime arrested for, bail amount and next court date. Even if other county jail websites dont have inmate lookups , you can always call the VINE line at 1-888-VINE4NY. This line tells you if an offender is in custody and if you are a victim of the offender then you can register to be notified upon their release from jail. The New York State Department of Correction also has an inmate lookup with inmate location and sentencing and parole information. The Federal Department of Correction has an inmate locator but it doesn't tell you much more than what facility the offender is in. The New York State Division of Parole also has a parolee lookup section so you can see who is on supervised release.

theres a world of difference between being up for 24 hours and being up for 67 hours with a few hours sleep.

I applaud these guys for their dedication to their fellow residents but I have to agree with helicopper. This is a safety issue, not only safety for the firemen but also for the residents they serve.

I watched this a few times and it seems that there was no traffic in front of him and there appeared to be adequate room for him to move. If there was traffic in front of the bus I don't think the firemen would have been as angry with the bus driver beause then he would have nowhere to go but in this case it seems to be squarely on his shoulders. As far as the union slowdown issue, if this guy wanted to take his time, do it in regular traffic, not when a fire engine is responding to a job. Whatever it is, we don't know the whole story, just what we can deduce from watching the video. The fireman on the PA was great, the PA can be a lot of fun on a slow night !

In the last few hours of this year I want to take a moment to remember the 162 Police Officers that gave their lives in the line of duty this year. These brave and selfless men and women are my heroes and at Midnight tonight when we welcome the new year, these officers and their families will be in the forefront of my mind. You have my love, honor, admiration and respect my brothers and sisters and I thank you for your service and sacrafice. God Bless You

Happy New Year to the EMTBravo family... We have a good thing here, let's keep it going even stronger in 2011 !!!!!

The most important thing is that these 2 Law Enforcement Officers are never forgotten. I was working the night Trooper Ambrose was killed and was called to the area to assist as were most Yonkers units that night. There isn't a time that I pass that area that I don't think about that night. Although we will be forever saddened by their line of duty deaths, we can all be comforted in knowing that because of the sacrafice that these officers made and by the enactment of this law, these officers will be responsible for saving countless lives over the coming years. Thank You Trooper Ambrose and Deputy Searles for your courage, honor and sacrafice. You gentlemen are true heros. You are gone but will never be forgotten. Merry Christmas my Brothers

Now it seems that the pace player who broke the store window that night was taken from his dorm to the hospital over the weekend because he was overly intox and the people he was with became concerned for him. Now his lawyer bonita zelman, as if she hasn't made enough of a mockery out of this case so far released a statement saying that if he did get that drunk it's becuase he is sad over the death of dj henry and because he has post traumatic stress .. ARE YOU FRIGGEN KIDDING ME LADY ??? Do you wipe this kids a** for him too ? What a joke

God Bless these Firefighters and their families

I will grant you that there was no filibuster proof majority in Congress but the question still begs in my mind as to why they waited so long and why they did it when they KNEW it would fail. When the bill failed in the house in July, it failed 255 to 159 with 12 reps voting yes and 4 dems voting no and also with 18 representatives that failed to vote. The dems brought this bill up as a suspension bill which needed a 2/3 majority but if they had brought it up with normal house procedures then it would have only needed a majority and would have passedm So in essence the dems set it up for failure in july also. It seems to me that before the November elections, the democrats didn't feel the need to negotiate because they were in the majority and felt that passage was certain. If there had been negotiations long ago then this situation would not have happened. Again let me say that I whole heartedly support this bill as do all of you, it is a travesty that this didn't pass when it should have. I just read a report that said that as of late this afternoon there has been some dealing and that the fund amount has been dropped from 7.4 billion to 6.2 billion and now seems to be on track to pass right after congress votes on the STAR treaty. I hope and pray that the bill passes and our frineds, families and colleagues get the help that they need and most certainly deserve.
-
did you ever ask yourself why if the democrats controlled both houses of congress for the last few years did they wait until the last two weeks of a lame duck session to try to pass such an important bill and only after the republicans made it clear that they will not sign off on any legislation until the tax cuts were taken care of ? Before all of you jump to conclusions about this post, just remember, I do not agree with the republicans voting this bill down, I think the 9/11 responders have waited too long and should have been helped a long time ago. I do however see the big picture and see that the democrats did not put this bill up because they care, this was politcally motivated from the start.

These are great pictures... the crew cab of the new ladders look like they are bigger than most apartments in manhattan !!

The rhetoric that is coming out from the lawyers and this guys family is ridiculous. The DA says that bonita zelman who is the attorney for the other players who were arrested that night called the lead detectives and said that unless the charges against her clients were dropped they wouldn't speak to investigators about the shooting. Zelman now denies this but i firmly believe this happened and the reason i believe this is that she is a low ball lawyer who saw dollar signs at the outset of this thing and figured that she could get her mug in front of the cameras and shame the DA's office into dropping the charges which isn't going to happen so now she is in way over her head and she is panicing and trying to make threats to get her clients out of trouble. If it can be proven that she made this statement then that is a matter for the NYS bar association to deal with as a possible misconduct issue. The next topic is henry sr. who was on news 12 saying that the charges against the other players should be dropped because they were only trying to help his son ..... help his son how by breaking the window of a store ?? I don't remember ever reading about breaking a window out of anger as being a recognized part of first aid. The rest of the people were arrested for dis con/resisting, and I ask again, how was that trying to help dj henry. After the shooting dj henry was a prisoner of the police on scene which means that nobody should have been going near him except PD/EMS/FD. Then we have michael sussman who proved himself to be a huge opportunist during the Yonkers desegragation case and now he is proving to be nothing more than that now. He is alledging that the ME's office fabricated the tox results because it contradicts witness statements from that night ... this fool would try to have us believe alcohol / marijuana and God knows what else fueled college students instead of a highly educated team of doctors and scientists... sorry mr sussman but NO. The bottom line is that everyone involved on the henry side is grasping at straws becuause they know that they don't have a leg to stand on anymore. Any public opinion they had on their side is now gone - and shame on anyone who took their side to begin with. During this whole thing we must keep the most important thing in mind and that is the officers involved. I have said it before in this thread and I will say it again, these cops were forced to respond the way they did because of dj henrys actions, the fault with this entire situation is on dj henry.

Great Job by all the officers and all the agencies involved !!! Jail is too good for this guy but he will meet real justice when his time comes .... God doesn't forget !!!

I am signed up to be an organ donor. Organ donation is an amazing gift for you to give countless other people. I applaud NYC for their new organ donation pilot program, think of all the lives that will be saved by this pioneering program.

It most certainly does set a precedent... they city will always want you to open up your contract, it's a balancing act for the union, trying to secure a raise for the membership while trying to keep what you already have and trying to get a few more things out of the city. The membership has to trust the elected union officials, we elected them to the positions so we should trust them. The city will always cry poverty but they will never cut where they need to, they will always go to the emergency services, very rarely will they cut on the legislative side of the budget. You have to remember that in a perfect world, the city would sit down with the union and everything would be amicable and they would agree on everything and the union would get 5 % 5% and 5% and 3 extra personals, etc... but it's not, collective bargaining is cut throat and I don't envy the FOP guys from Newark at all.
-
My thoughts and prayers are with my brothers and sisters in Newark who have been layed off. I would say that anyone who is not directly involved in the negotiations between the Newark FOP and the city can't fairly place blame in this situation. It's very easy to say " The union should have put the latest offer to a vote " or " why didn't the union make concessions to save those jobs " .. the reality is that union give backs are a slippery slope and when you give in once, the city will ask for it over and over and will sit down at a collective bargaining table and they will lead the negotiations knowing that the union will break. The FOP represents 1,033 cops in Newark and although they have to try to save those 167 jobs, they also have to look out for the good of the countless other members they represent. The city is using the cops as political pawns and it isn't right. Public safety in Newark has always been a problem and being minus 167 cops during the holiday robbery season is a crooks dream. The union had to play hardball with the city, and now is the time for the ad campaigns and to ratchet up the public pressure which will undoubtedly get some or all of those jobs back. God Bless all of our brothers and sisters and may they be back at work in no time at all !!

In an incredible knock to the memories of the Brave Men and Women that have died in the line of duty serving the Utah Highway Patrol, the U.S. 10th circuit court of appeals has ordered the Utah Highway Patrol to remove the 12 foot tall white crosses that are errected along Utah Highways where the Troopers were killed. The crosses have the Utah Highway Patrol insignia on them with the Troopers name. An atheist group brought the lawsuit saying that this is a violtaion of the 1st ammendment seperation of church and state saying that the cross is a symbol of christianity and nothing else. The 3 judge panel in their infinite wisdom agreed and said that a person can reasonably infer that because Uah is using crosses means that they endorse christianity over other religions. Like the Attorney General of Utah Said, Utah is three quarters mormon and almost all of the troopers that died were mormons but they chose to memorialize them with a cross because a cross always marks the spot where someone died, no matter what religion they were. I think this is just another bad decision by the federal courts and another knock to the sensibilities and the moral fiber of this country. God Help Us !!!!!

The Yorktown K-9 unit is a fully trained unit. The dogs are certified in narcotics detection, suspect tracking, missing persons, etc. To cut or eliminate this unit would be a mistake. When you need a dog for a traffic stop, time is of the essence, if there is an extended delay in getting a dog to the scene, you give the perp extra time to devise a plan to lie, escape, or worse, plan an attack on the officer. I'm sure outside agencies would help out when they can but you need a dedicated dog in your area. Suppose you have a missing elderly alzheimers patient that gets out of their home in the dead of winter.. we all know that seconds count in this instance, seconds that a K-9 can provide. I don't know if these guys have any training in highway drug interdiction but i would bet that there are a lot of large packages going up the taconic from NYC to upstate, a few good stops and seizures and this unit could fund itself and then some. This is another case of politicians not thinking outside the box, they go right back to the old cost cutting standby, the emergency services. Unfortunatly, playing games with public safety has become all too common in politics today. I'm sure there is a ton of waste on the municipal side of the budget that can be cut, and i'm sure the cuts would be worth much more than $ 4000 dollars. Good luck to my brothers in the YPD !

I am pleased that the jury had the wisdom to arrive at this verdict of death. I would also like to thank Connecticut Governor Jodi Rell who veteoed a bill to repeal Conecticut's death penalty statue. In her veto Governor Rell cited this case as a prime example as to why Connecticut needs to keep the death penalty on the books. I pray that Doctor Petit finds some consolation in this verdict but we all know that nothing, not even this verdict will ever heal the pain in his heart and for that I am truly sorry. As for the savages that committed this atrocity, I hope his heart sunk in court today when the verdict was read, I hope this savage was stripped of all hope and is sitting in his cell right now contemplating suicide....do it, do us all the favor scumbag and save us the money of funding your worthless appeals ..... these criminals represent the worst element of society and should not be amongst the living any more. The justice system has passed it's verdict and now God will soon pass his.
