Hi my name is Elia I am a member and an Officer of the Pelham Manor Volunteer Company. I am waiting to get a position as a paid guy, hopefully in Pelham Manor. I have a BS in Business and am currently a Medical Assistant in Scarsdale. I Have been in the fire service for about 5 years now. I am the guy who is in charge of the beer at the quarters for social events and for meetings.

HAHA thats true. didn't even think of that one. I cant believe Firehouse didn't notice that the whole burn was against ever rule in the live fire burn book
-
Notice that these two guys are wearing only the SCBA MASKS and not tanks. i think that maybe thats a little bit of a no-no also. This whole burn is all wrong. the only positive thing to say is "Hey, at least nobody died!" the ring of fire around the building, maybe a little more then one room involved, going at it with a garden hose instead of a deck gun. Even a less expierienced guy would say "Um Chief, this doesn't look too good"
-
Can someone kindly point out where the "under control" part of this burn is? Was the house made of wood soaked in gasoline? Notice that while the house is the definition of "Fully Involved", there are no water streams on the fire.

I would love to hear what is going on in the county when i am at work or when i am not home. I think it would be worth your time and effort to get it up and running.

Any other books or video's a up and coming officer should get his hands on? i just bought Responding to Routine Emergencies and will be reading that quite a bit. there is alot of crap out there and i am looking for the ones that offer the most info with the least amount of fluff included. i know every book has it's advantages but i think that alot of guys are looking to learn as much as possible and then try and pass that on to the next guy so we can all work safer and stay out off the LODD list.

Rescue Me is so much better since it is about firefighting and not police, which EVERY other show is about. look the cop show has been done every which way possible. Third Watch was ok i mean it was not all crap but they picked which boring road they are gonna take. as for the content of RM, ya it is a little crazy but hey isn't that the way life is? i mean lets see, a divoced father of three is sleeping with another fireman's wife, (i know he is dead but still), and is dealing with a drinking problem, Hmm doesn't every fire house have a guy sorta like that? maybe not the doing the dead guys wife part. the storyline was all plausable. everyones story intertwined. i think third watch had a story line when one guy has like a mail order type wife who is into the mob for something and the kill her or blow up his house, it was something like that. that is just plain dumb and not what makes a show good. being able to identify with the guys. has anyone watched RM and thought "hey that happened to me once" or the next day said "you remember when that happned to so an so?" Rescue Me wins by a landslide

Anyone know when Pelham is getting it's new engine? any info on what they got and what fixin's they got on it?

Attacking children = Death! i think that we should just finish these people off and just put them in wheelchairs. take away that lisence and make it so they can not drive or walk anymore. there was no reason for her to do this. these are kids for gods sake. And it was not like the were being bad. anyone remeber when it was safe to be a kid? now there are gangs, crazy moms in SUV's, and drugs out there. i think that they need a national wide law for putting these people that hurt children in the ground and not out there harming children.

well i am for protecting the guys who protect me. i think that the soldier bleeding to death is crap. no man should be denied the tools he needs to do his job, whether it be a rifle and armored car, or a engine that runs reliable and is not older then the guys running it. I think the local guys could try and get there budgets straight. there is one department in westchester that has a '76 Mack that is rusting through. just paint over it, it will be fine. this kinda stuff just is not the way we should all be working. i know some department have good gov who helps them out so it is not everyone and i am not saying lets all get new engine every 5 yrs but i think that they should try and keep up somewhat up to date on technology and stuff. And ALS, when i said daddy's war i guess i ment he didn't really look over there till s*** happened and then it seemed like a " hey while were hear, might as well mop this up. i know you have to risk and lose lives to save lives, that just the way it is. i didn't really mean to upset those who have been out there and defended this country over the years

i am not a very political person but i think that anyone knows that there are three things you NEVER cut 1) Schools 2) Fire 3)Police. these are the back bone of the community and the country. these politicans have no clue what the hell their doing. they think well i need to cut money so i can cover you something that a company that gives me money did. it is sad but true. they think hey firemen just sit around and do nothing all day. what do they need man power for when there are no fires? the point it we need it when there is a fire. yes it is strange that you pay someone to sit around when normal thinking in Business is lazy guy gets fired. well this aint Business, this is Protection. we wait and when called on we act fast. same as with cops. it is a waiting game. we wait for bad stuff to happen. it is just a shame how these people who are not firemen try and act like they know what it good for us

Hmm :-k well isn't that interesting. Got to help finish daddy's war by dumping money into Iraq but why help the guys at home.

Ok first of all i have no problem with the fight against cancer, my grandfather had it three times before it took him, so don't take this the wrong way. I know many people die from it everyday. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I really really hate those damn yellow bracelet things!! everyone has one or has a pink one. it is a status symbol. "hey look i have a yellow bracelet on, i am making a diffrence." i know that lance kicked the crap out of cancer then he won the Tour De France, 6 TIMES. i am the first to say thats a survivors story that anyone can get behind, but if you are soo into the cause maybe more then just $1 would be good. yes every dollar helps but hey why not write a check for $20, $50, hey lets get crazy and write one for $100. do you think these people would give a dollar if you came up to them on the street in NY with a water jug and said give to help cure cancer? Nope! keep on walking. with that i hope they do find a cure and i hope that they find it soon.

I am trying to put together a drill for the smoke house up at the county smoke house. i know you cant burn in there but what should i use as a fire subsitute? we have used road flares in the past but they just don't do it for me. does anyone know of a better substitute? i thought of maybe bundling a few together. what do other departments use? also any ideas on how to spice up the cellar? it is always kinda the same old drill and i want to kinda suprize my guys. maybe a "collapse" with a firefighter trapped under something. just asking for ideas.
-
hey ALS, do they have any blueprint layouts of the cellar in the smoke house up at the county? i wanted to have an over head view so i could plan my drill layout and see what doors open in and out. i did like the "chock the door" idea to see how guys would react to the entrapment situation. i don't think we can use a heating unit in the smoke house. maybe if i used a flood light in the can? plus if we flow water in there basement with a heating unit that would be a real hazard and i have no plans of loseing a guy doing a training drill. ;-)
-
bunch of crap if you ask me. what was this guys gonna do with a defribulator? you cant sell it cause everyone is gonna be looking for it. i think that people can be real scum sometimes. who steals from the fire department? and why not man the station with one guys so it is safe and to watch the rigs. just said man
-
thanks als. we mainly use the cellar when whe cant get the burn house. if we can get the burn house, we are burnin it up. we do use a smoke machine, so the flares are not used for smoke, more for the illusion of fire. do you guys have anything up at the county that i could use to simulate a ceilling collapse? like something that could be put on top of a "body" for S&R ops. also next time we are up there can we grab one of those rescue dummies from the garage? would simulate dead weight when trying to get a downed guy out.

I think this a great idea. i think that all fire apparatus should be equiped with this technology.
