If you think that New Rochelle FD's delay in getting their New Engine 22 is bad, take a look at the delay that Yonkers FD is having getting their 2 New Engine 303 and 313 from Ferrara Fire Apparatus and Neville Apparatus !! (The YFD bid was awarded back in March and Ferrara hasn't even started production on the 2 new rigs yet)

Can anyone recollect (and some may have to go back some 40 to 50 years in Westchester County) if a patient had to be transported to an Emergency Room in Westchester County either inside of a Rescue Rig or on a backboard on top of the hose bed on a Pumper Truck, because a BLS or ALS Ambulance Rig (and going back to the 'Old Days" just a plain old Ambulance) was not available for transport? (Back in 1963, I had to be transported inside of the Old Yonkers Rescue 1 Mack Rig due to an Bycycle/Auto Accident, to Lawrence Hospital, because all of the Yonkers City/Hospital Ambulances and the Old Lawrence Hospital Ambulances were all unavailable, due to being tied up on other runs Does anyone have any recollection of other incidents that required transportation to an ER on a Fire Rig?

I wonder if the Mount Vernon Fire Department are having similar problems/issues with their 2 Ferrara Pumpers (Engine 3 and Engine 4). Be curious to see if the EMTBravo.net members from the Yonkers Fire Department have been reading these posts related to the quality issues that FDNY are having with their Ferrara Rigs, knowing that Yonkers is about to take delivery on 2 New Ferrara Ultra Pumpers (Engine 303 and Engine 313) and will be taking delivery during the first half of 2015 on a New Ferrara Tower Ladder (to replace TL 71). Hmmm

I will assume that you work within the FDNY, so your comments are based off of first hand FDNY experience with the Ferrara rigs. I know that bid awards are, to the most part, given out to the "Lowest Bidder" who is/has proven to be a reliable supplier of Fire Apparatus, and can show that the can live up to the "Stringent" requirements of the bid award (specifically related to up time and product reliability). There are more and more departments in the tri-state area, who have awarded bids to Ferrara for Fire Apparatus (RE: City of Yonkers awarding Ferrara for their replacements of Engines 303 & 303 as well as Tower Ladder 71). So I guess the jury is still out and time will tell.

Heard from within YFD that the replacement for TL 71, will be a Ferrara TL, but does anyone know the latest status on the delivery of the 2 Ferrara Ultra Pumpers to replace current Engine 303 and 313 American LaFrance rigs? (The original projection was that they would be in Yonkers by early 4th Quarter 2014). Any and all updates is greatly appreciated !!!

Maybe one of the older guys who worked at YFD Station 13 (Ladder 73, Engine 313 and the Foam Unit) can answer this one (because Ladder 71 and 74 both had "Sister Units" to Ladder 73 (1979 ALF Century Tillers), and neither 71 or 74 were named, but 73 had the monitor "Supertrain" embossed on its nose)

Also, are you going to have both the single top of cab Red Flasher along with the Bullet Style Siren/Red Flasher on the Driver Side Front Bumper, as part of your model as well?

Outstanding job, so far, Stepjam !!! Taking on Kitbashing Yonkers Tiller Ladder 73 is certainly one of your more challenging efforts indeed (For those who may not remember, ALF delivered identical rigs to Yonkers as Ladder 71, 73, and 74). A red repainted version of this rig ended up as Ladder 70, before being put out to pasture. Would love to see you Kitbash the Old Yonkers FD Mack B Rescue Truck !!! Keep posting those updated photos on this project and keep up the great work !

http://westchester.news12.com/news/fire-truck-bursts-into-flames-at-station-number-three-in-yonkers-1.8803803 I guess its going to be hard to get replacement parts for this YFD Spare Rig now, with American LaFrance out of business * Must have been shocking for the YFD Engine Company who got the call for a "Truck Fire" at Fire Station # 3, arriving to see that the "Truck" was actually one of their own apparatus. (But with 317 and 319 still available and the likelihood that once Engine 303 gets replaced later this year (along with Engine 313) and probably that old one going in as the replacement for Spare 318, Yonkers is naturally, as always, in great shape, apparatus wise)

I guess that FDMV likes to leave their "Retired" Rigs out in the back of Station 5 (AKA "The Graveyard"). I would bet that the Old Engine 2 and Engine 6, and the Old Spare Mack Engine 1 are back their along side the "FOAM RIG". Why doesn't Mayor Davis sell these retired rigs as scrap and get some money to put back into the Department (yes, I know you don't get much value back on these rigs, but heck, something is better than nothing !!!)

Bring back "The Beast" Rescue 5 and Engine 28

Current New York State Law prohibits the establishment of a County Run Fire Department. However, this is not to say that eventually, if there is enough political pressure coming from the tax payers into their Assemblyman/Women, State Senator, Mayors, Adminstrators, etc,etc, that the current law prohibiting this could be over-turned and changed to allow a County Run Department. Many other areas in the country are doing this, to improve upon resources and manpower and to improve response times.(The biggest hurdle that would have to be overcome is the pressure from the Fire Officers Unions, who no doubt will not be in favor of this, While I would not foresee a reduction in firefighters, you could see a reduction in Officers, if the Westchester 2000 Plan be put into place and you have a Countywide Fire Department (which if implemented should be across the entire county and not just sections of the county).

Like every City, Town and Village in the surrounding area of Eastchester, EFD has over the past 20+ years has cut apparatus. Engine 28 used to run full time out of Station 2 in Tuckahoe (Engine 28 is now a Spare Engine) and Rescue 5 used to run full time out of Station 3 in Bronxville, but has been gone for a number of years now. You had a building falling apart up at the North End, which took a very long time to repair. Tower Ladder 17 has, like the flyer said, been out of service, more than it has been in service. They (EFD) are running on a Spare Ladder (Ladder 15) which has issues of its own. And yes, Eastchester FD still runs as a "Combination Department" (Professional and Volunteer). Should be an interesting meeting

I believe that the YFD Collapse Unit is staffed by the members of Squad 11. If a call goes out for the Collapse Unit, while Squad 11 is in quarters, 2 of the 4 Crew Members of Squad 11 drive and respond with the Collapse Rig, while the Squad 11 Driver and Captain go with Squad 11. I believe that the way it works, should Squad 11 be on a run, the crew of Rescue 1 would come and pick up the Collapse Rig (although I may be wrong on this one)

Great shot of Engine 8's 1961 Ward LaFrance Fire Brand Pumper at the Old Station 8 (too bad that the building was too far gone, to continue the plan to house the YFD Muesum). Also nice shot of that "Vintage" American LaFrance Pumper at the "ORIGINAL" Station 8. KEEP THOSE CLASSIC YFD SHOTS COMING !!!

I would suspect that these 2 New Ferrara Pumpers will go to Engine 313 and 303 to replace 2003 and 2006 units respectfully (but someone within YFD would certainly know better than I)
